I've had a scribe for a month. I'm in grad school and I primarily use it to read and mark up Pdfs for my classes, so that I'm not tied to my laptop. It was a cheaper option than an ipad. For reading, I honestly prefer the paperwhite. The size of the Scribe is appealing to me, but in realistic use, I feel like I read faster on a smaller device. Like you, I use it mostly at home.
My problem with Scribe is the prohibitive cost and the lack of storage space. My cellphone is a third of the size and can hold 2TB of stuff. The biggest storage I've ever seen on the scribe is 64 GB. I like to have more room than I could possibly need, especially on a device that costs about as much as a new gaming console lol
There is no lie on the cost! I have 32GB scribe and have a TON of room! I haven’t even scratched the surface yet and I’ve had it for over a year. 🤷🏻♀️
Well that’s not a true comparison, an e-reader vs a phone. That’s like me comparing your meager 256g phone to my 32 terabyte NAS.
I'd like to get one of these e-book things, for reading in foreign languages, because I think it might be easier to get books electronically. (It's been hard as hell to figure out how to get Swedish books-many companies in Sweden don't ship overseas. I'm also a beginner in Japanese and I think it would be cool to read actual manga in the Japanese language on an e-reader). I just wish it wasn't so expensive!
I will say libraries have come a long way mostly in major cities for having manga and e-books in many other languages. A great way to experience what you want without the heavy cost. Check for sales and refurbished e-readers are usually discounted heavily. Good luck!

Go for a paperwhite version
Sorry, I’m a devout Paperwhite girl. It fits in my bag or my pocket very easily and I can stash it next to my computer at work and discreetly read between customers. I’ve been curious about the Scribe due to the note taking feature til I remember that I don’t annotate or take notes 😂

I believe that you've successfully persuaded me into giving the Kindle Scribe a try, but the more important issue: Where did you get that 'Empire Strikes Back' shirt?
The Scribe is great! Keep an eye on the price for Prime Days in October. Kindle is due for 2nd Gen Scribe announcement one of these days.
This awesome baseball t-shirt is a favorite of mine and is from the company Out of Print. It has graphics on the back too! I’m pretty sure they still sell it. 😊
As of now I don't think I am in the market for the scribe. I have 4 Kindles of varying times and am satisfied thus far.
That’s what everyone said (including me) - but here we are. 😂 I’m just saying, if you feel like giving it a try - it’s worth it.
My favorite is the older, smaller Oasis. I like to hold it on one hand and turn pages with the buttons.

Good morning MJ! I have had the Scribe since last July and I absolutely love it! I have been reading more than I ever have since getting this device and I don't expect you to remember, but it was one of your initial reviews of the Scribe that convinced me to get the device, and it was also the first time I had seen your channel, so I then subSCRIBEd to your channel. Thank you for that review and I am so happy to hear that you continue to love it. I use the note-taking every day extensively as well. My hope is, that in future models, Amazon will include a split-screen feature that would allow us to read a book while taking notes, be able to drag and drop a portion of text into a notebook, etc. I would love a color version of this device as well. Of course, I have been seriously considering the Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C for these reasons, but I will always love the Scribe! Have a great day MJ!

I have the scribe for home use and a Boox Palma for on the go reading. Really like them both and they both have different functions.

I bought mine in March. I absolutely still love it though I rarely use the pen writing features.
I have been a Kindle fan for 12 and a half years now and I have the Oasis and basic. I can't justify getting a Scribe as you can annotate to a degree with the Oasis but I would love to have the functionality to do that in my own handwriting. I will just keep saving and when eventually neither of the ones I do have will hold a charge for more than a few hours I will look to replace then xx
I like the idea of the Scribe but i dont NEED it. I know I'll never use the writing functionality. Its the size that is appealing.

Thank you for this. Considering buying one. I would like to buy one for journaling daily but I read that if you write a lot on it the Battery goes down faster. Would you recommend it for doing a couple of pages per day Journaling?
The battery does deplete faster with writing than reading, but I think that’s expected. I think you will love it. And if not, you can always send to back for a refund. Good luck!
I have one and I’m obsessed with it and so are my kids l, we take it out and use the journals to draw, play tic tac toe and hangman
Does the whisper sync work on this too? So if you're reading on the scribe at home and then pick up your paperwhte when you're at work and you go right to where you left off?

It's an anniversary party! Glad you're still using it. Tech is sometimes funny that way. Do you find yourself making more notes in your books the longer you've had the Scribe?
Notes on books in the scribe, yes. Notes on physical books? Not really. 🤷🏻♀️
I write reviews of the books that I read so I like to take notes as I read to help me write up my review for posting later. Can I write in the margins? Can I send final review to Goodreads or Amazon? How many books can it store in its library? Is this scribe a good option for my specific needs? Sorry for all the questions but finding it hard to get a device to suit those specific needs…is there such a device? Thanks for any suggestions.

-No. It’s a Kobo device and not linked to Amazon.
It can store a lot, 32G
The Scribe is great for what you need, but I will say of the hold out for the next gen of it. It’s almost been 2 years.

I just got one and love it.! I picked mine up on Ebay new with the premium pen for just £190.00 delivered and use it all the time, especially for journaling and writing notes.

I live in Mexico where getting a scribe is still not possible. Don't know why Amazon is not selling them here yet. I got it brought in from the USA. It worked right out of the box. I got is because I already am into the kindle life. As a language teacher I wanted some thing to help me with my lesson plans. I type them up in MS Word and then export them directly from word to my account. Then download it to my kindle. Works every time. Takes about a minute for it to appear but it works every single time.
That blows my mind it’s not available in Mexico. I am so glad you were able to purchase one and it’s been so helpful to you! Great to hear!
On the recommendation of my son I bought the Scribe. I use an iPad Pro - A Lot but prefer reading on the scribe. Actually, after one week I like it very much!

I love my scribe. It’s for sure my at home only device or if I’m going to the office. I use it for work for my work planner and notes. I don’t use my iPad at all and have been thinking I might sell that.

Yes! I am a huge fan of handwriting my notes.
I have an iPad Air with a paperlike screen cover and a Kindle Paperwhite. Best of both worlds already.
I get that. I need the least amount of distractions possible in my e-readers.
I thought again and decided to give the Scribe a go on Prime Day. It’s coming next month.

@@M-J I need to do more reading like I used to and I think this may be a better way to encourage that. Also, I intend to use it for my study notes for the German I am learning in my spare time. I replaces three note pads that weigh my bag down.

Do you have a screen protector on it
On my Scribe, no. But I do have one on my Kobo and it’s works fine. Application was tricky to avoid bubbles, not no issues. I hope that helps. 😊
I bought it. I hate it. Nobody is mentioning an important thing: everytime I turn the page, the screen takes a long time (thinking?) then it flashes and goes completely black, and only then does it show the next page. You can't search inside the book or flip through it. It's a disaster.
It does do that! I’m probably used to it so it really doesn’t bother me. You can send it back if in the 30 day window. I’m sure Amazon will appreciate your feedback. Please be sure to tell them.

This is psychological. You have to understand that there is more reading surface. Meaning you’re turning the page much, much less.
