“And at night the sun goes down” best world building I have ever heard of 🤧. But for real I’m already on chapter 400 something, so I can confirm that this novel is good. And I’m just watching this because reviews are my bread and butter. I don’t relate to Sunny on a personal level, but I really like him as a character. Sometimes that’s a double edged sword for me because it’s really sad to see him suffer so much. Overall I give it a 8,9/10 so far. it’s funny, the world building is great and Kai exists, what can I say more… (Ordinary rock is best character, any of you who disagree are delusional)
Really love how the author got alot of inspiration in dark souls and bloodbornesque horror. Abominations; either cthulhu, mangled combination of anything sinful, or cosmic level shit, 'no matter how strong you are, you're one mistake away from death' stuff, victorian-brutalist, colorful and bloody, majestic and terrifyingly beautiful world building. My imagination just explodes of horror and beauty. Author really could make great horror especially during the magical tree and the reflection castle (you know if you know, spoilers).
. Really sad that there is little to no artworks there that could bring these characters, scenarios, worlds, and creatures to life despite its popularity. The final battle from the kingdom of hope, forgotten shore, dead city with its streets of horror (imagined it as a combination of lothric castle, undead settlement, anor londo), crimson spire's interior, hollow mountains, all the links of the chained isles, the interior of bloody night temple, the waking world cities, destroyed western continent, beasts, weapons, the massive ships, the tech. Gods, that'd be awesome.
I completely agree with all your assessment, the webnovel is amazing and ahead of its peers! 1. The worldbuilding and lore is not just there for show, it actually ties up quite nicely with the overall theme of the main story line. Much like Sanderson's Stormlight world where the weather is a huge part of the story. very impressive for a webnovel. 2. The creative aspect of the real world tied to the Dreamworld tied to the Seed (a dream within a dream) is a well thought out ecosystem. Every dream (World) is different with its own mechanics (black water, the crushing, etc.) and dangers, it actually feels like an adventure. 3. This is the first novel in a decade that made me feel any sense of danger. The world, the weather, the monsters, the humans, are all out to get him! the adversity and power-ups are not inherently OP, as Sunny is always on the verge of death, sometimes beyond =) 4. Sunny is NOT the MC and the villain is NOT Sunny's villain. He's like the rogue side character, but somehow G3 made this work. its really really impressive. Spoilers, He even 'mocked' the readers (and himself?) by portarying Sunny as the bumbling idiot in the movie remake of the 1st Arc. 5. The fact that G3 mashed together, high fantasy, neo fantasy, horror, historical & murder mysteries, sci-fi interdimensional worlds; adding current tropes like game systems, school/tournament arcs, VR worlds, and throwing crazy themes like "time-travel" a la Butterfly Effect movie (2004); and tying it all together into a cohesive and comprehensive story is truly amazing. How is it not a mess of a novel is beyond me. 6. I only disagree with your favourite characters, I know its subjective. But I feel like Cassie is one of the best characters because she brings in so much tension and uncertainty in a petite & innocent package. I hate her too, but like the young King Joffrey (GOT), her character is what makes SS that more amazing. 7. Did I just compare SS to well-established critically-acclaimed internationally-published books like GRRM's Game of Thrones and Sanderson's Stormlight Archives? YES, while the writing isn't on par, but the story is just as good. 8. Now that I've shared some form of spoilers should you read it? ABSOLUTELY. Your nightmare is just beginning.
If you like Sunny’s scheming and calculators nature, you’ll enjoy Reverend Insanity. Although the Mc of this novel can be a bit too cruel sometimes. Lord of the Mysteries is also extremely enjoyable if you enjoy deep lore and intricately thought out power system. It also has the cosmic horror of Shadow Slave, in a much more apparent way.
Bro all of you are insane, how can you say that you read it “slowly” haha yup definitely slowly. Aren’t there like hundreds of chapters? Did you read like 10 hours a day?😀

@@littleboirose180 Quite pleasant. It got a lot better as it went along. While I do not share the "ine of the best webnovel" sentiment this novel has it is a solid read.
I love everything about this novel except for 2 things, the complete absence of sex despite them being gorgeous teenagers perpetually left alone to do whatever they wished and the fact that there's no mention of race and race relations during a dystopian apocalypse.. Sunny should be black, or at least a dark skinned Indian/Latino/Aboriginal..
I agree with you RE Cassie, but I do know why I don't like her. 1. She gives off a sketchy slightly more distant vibe where it's hard to truly trust that she doesn't know more than she's letting on or have ulterior motives (mainly because of her ability so I understand why but I still can't 100% trust her after the end of Forgotten Shore arc). and 2. after the FS arc I still haven't forgiven her :') Sunless is the GOAT and I hate that she betrayed him for Neph, and I know it all worked out in the end but considering he found it so hard to make friends and trust people, and SHE KNEW THAT, for her to then choose Neph over him and stab him in the back seriously ticked me off. I was hoping in the next arc that she would be killed off ngl
I kind of got over my hatred towards her when I really just tried to view it from an unbiased perspective, because Sunny himself admitted that he can’t promise to look after Cassie if Nephis was not around anymore.
@pineguin226 oh I know he's no angel for sure but I can't be unbiased I love Sunny too much so for me Cassie is trash and Kai is my second love for being an actual friend to him that hasn't once even considered betraying him, he's basically Sunny's fan boy and I'm here for it
I think that I’m gonna drop it. Its too depressing, I’m feeling bad for the mc all the time. I’m at chapter 378, nothing positive as happened for the mc. Dude is fated to be a slave. The mc is a side piece, and the sad part is the fact that he is talented, smart, motivated, but the “fate” decided that he is a servant. I tried to endure it alll the depression, in hope that it would get better, but since the start that I feel that mc has the “reverse plot”. The reason why im thinking of dropping is because he way mc reacted at the end of first ark, it wasn’t realistic at all, too much and risk. Never seen a mc with so many debuffs
man, i'd say you to don't drop the novel because even with so many debuffs the best part IMO is the way the mc always find a way to surpass them and still survive and seek a nice future with his sister and his "master". and im willing to see the protagonist using the ability of the mask(that mongrel one) to beat the seed of the nightmares running away of the destiny, and seeking other possibilities "against" the destined atribute. (i avoided to say some names to dont give a spoilerto anyone who hasnt already read it) also, sorry for bad english, im brazilian
I agree with the reverse plot so much, made me actually laugh. I think it's more of a slow-growth novel. One of the things that I actually really like is that people don't get op quickly. 2 years in and he is still weak af. So it feels more natural to me. I understand though, it can be really depressing when your favorite character gets clapped over and over.
