It always amuses me that Clanners look down on second line mechs even when they are loaded to the gills with quality components. “Oh sure my mech doesn’t have Omni pods but it’s still a 100 ton monster with a versatile weapons load out.”

Honestly I prefer NON-omnimechs, especially in campaign games where I can refit the engine as salvage allows, or need dictates. Something Omni's just can not do, without bending or breaking the rules. Give me a C or a IIC any day over the Omni.
I still think the Omnimech was designed as a rapid refit prototyping platform, that was never meant to put into mass production with 'pod' space.

I really quite like most of the Dark Age mech designs. And I'm fully aware that's because they had the advantage of a back and forth between actual designers, the writers, and the guys who were going to manufacturer the miniature, and when all are happy the design is locked in. That's a more time consuming and expensive process, but the mechs that come out of it look so much better for it.

I think the original Jupiter sounds alright, but I'd replace the ERPPCs with ERLLs and use the weight saved to feed the UAC5s some more ammo. and possibly strip a heatsink for another ton of LRM ammo. It's still a very impressive alpha, but now has some endurance to keep it up. The lack of jumpjets and slower speed shouldn't be a huge problem as it is a secondline garrison mech so it should be fighting defensively for the most part

Ah, the Jupiter, my favorite Dark Age mech! My Jade Falcon forces love it! I love all of its variants. One thing of note on the Jupiter 4 is that while it seems to have lost firepower, it actually has lost little by having superior heat dissipation, so while its Alpha Strike is slightly diminished, its effective firepower per turn is still as fearsome as any other while being faster.

OK, I'm going to have to try the Jupiter at some point. It seems all around average, which is a accomplishment for a clan designed mech. It also suits my preferred fighting style of mid-to-long range, but won't flinch if something runs up and gets into it's face.
Because I like mech building, I decided to take a stab at a mixed-tech, one-off Jupiter. It started as a standard Jupiter, but was salvaged by a IS unit and had components gradually replaced as they were damaged. It keeps the LRM 15s and one PPC, as well as the same engine, structure, and armor. The first major change is that the 4 UAC 5s where switched out for a Rotary Autocannon 5 in each arm. The two RACs can easily but a similar amount of fire downrange, with another two bonus shots and the ability to clear any jams. The eight tons freed up by switching to the RACs is given to two extra tons of ammo and three jump jets. Finally, the destroyed Clan ER PPC has been replaced by a Snub-Nose PPC.
It's a bit eclectic, but should largely function the same as the standard Jupiter. It'll certainly be a bit quirky with the IS tech, but that's kinda the point.

The problem of course with some wanting to ignore that the Dark Age happened is that many of us Battletech fans were introduced during or post Dark Age.
Myself, I was introduced via the MW:DA minis game. I still have fond memories of it. It was also immediately clear from the dossiers and such that came with units though that this was part of a larger universe, so I looked into that. And I immediately picked up every TRO and Field Manual and other Battletech texts I could find. I also got the Mechwarrior ttrpg books. And Mechwarrior 4 video game. I was all in on this IP, and this is all while I was stationed in South Korea. Have of course stuck with it these past 20+ years.
I still have all my MW:DA minis. My initial faction was Dragon's Fury, and they had a 'hero mech' (to borrow the MWO term) for the Jupiter as well. I generally prefer lighter/faster mechs, but the Jupiter was definitely a fascinating machine in application and appearance. I only used it in larger point games, but it was a terror for opposition in those occasions.

The thing I like most about the Jupiter mech is that it's a big brick that is slow for a clan mech ludicrously optimized for long range, not an actual omnimech despite being exactly what you'd want omnipods in given it's stock all or nothing long range armanents and inexplicably has the fine manipulators modifier despite most models of it literally having no visible manipulators and no real advantage for it having them given it's role.
It's basically an inner sphere mech trying and failing to cosplay as a clan one, complete with nonsensical special rule modifier that's really not applicable to any situation you'll actually run into and that is funny to me.

I don't have a grudge against the Dark Age like some people do.
Oddly enough, I feel annoyed with myself for not getting into the series when it was right in front of me; I remember the Clix, I had a bunch I bought used and then lost somehow.
So much cool stuff I could have been doing...ah well.
    Cant change the past.
I SWEAR I had a Jupiter in one of the Clix boxes I got. It, a Tundra Wolf and a Mad Cat were the three "big mechs" that I liked out of the 40 something boxes I found and my mom bought for me.

Made an analogue of the Jupiter in modded MW5 and gave it a whirl. It was actually surprisingly decent, even in it's unmodified base configuration. As a sniper though, that huge, central and prominent cockpit canopy is a massive design flaw that screams "shoot me right here for a free kill" and probably the only thing I don't like about the mech as a whole.

It has an overall cool appearance, though the missile boxes as shoulders make me wonder how both missile and arm mechanisms operate in such a cramped manner. Never tried one on the tabletop, but I think if I had my pick, either the standard or the Jupiter-3 would be my choices. I do look forward to seeing the artists tackle this one.

"Jade Falcon" is never the Clan I would have thought of seeing this clunky-looking beast, but then again, their Turkina, Bane, and other Assault designs always seemed a bit awkward, like they suddenly have no idea what to do with all that extra weight. This is a new mech on me, but not one I think I will be using. At least not the factory configurations. 1 ton of ammo for the LRM's is a bad joke, and 4 UAC 5's or a pair of UAC 10's is just too much dependence upon ammo intensive weaponry for me, and then there is the jamming issue as well. The MF configuration has potential I think, and I may give it a try.

I actually think I have a clix of this one. Your MF version is probably my favorite of the ones you covered. Though I'm also more partial to my Jupiter ISM, lol.
Though a mixed tech variant, most of it remains Clantech. The "mixed" part comes from its use of IS triple strength myomer and a plasma rifle with 2 tons of ammo in each side torso. Backing up those are a pair of improved heavy large lasers - in each arm. It also features a larger XL engine, for a 4(5)/6(8)/0 movement. Unfortunately, according to Mech Factory, it costs nearly 33 million c-bills. It also generates 92 heat if you alpha strike, and its DHS only dissipate 40 of that.

About MWDA. Setting was interesting to me, I played the game and had some fun matches. Also I disliked the click system.
What killed it for me was the bad balance and constent changes to the point that you had to check if everyone was on the same page, rule and balance wise, beforre starting a game or else things could get confusing.
As for the unit designs. They range from "pretty cool" to "we don't talk about it".
Best thing for me was the better handling of infantry, battlearmor and most of all tanks. Tanks in normal BT are so badly done that I always suggest that you get 2 for the BV or half the BV.
PS: Please do more MWDA. Also I played it, I hardly know much about the units in depth beside the few I played.

    TC for lasers and ppcs.
The hmg arrays should be able to wipe a full point of Battle armor in a burst.
    😊
Still have tonnage to spare. Maybe more ammo or dhs.
But that ability to spray down an entire hex in heavy mg makes me smile.
If heat weren't a problem I'd use micropulse arrays x 3, which would make it even more of a danger in cqb and cities and bane of ankle biters everywhere.
It's too bad Disco lasers dont exist in board game.

All the gun-variants I really think would deliver a savage arse kicking at the ranges you're going to have to just 'eat' on the way in for a couple of rounds and no one's going to enjoy that. Can't say I like the model, its not all bad but just sort of looks like weapon-modules arranged into a vague mech shape with the cockpit being a big old bullseye.
