Welcome back to Epic Flight Academy's Private Pilot Ground School! This video covers the second portion of Airport Operations. In this video, Mike Thompson discusses traffic patterns, how to enter them properly and safely, and the different types of wind indicators found at airports.
This course is taught by Epic Flight Academy's own Mike Thompson. Mike Thompson is the author of "Telling Is Not Teaching", which promotes the idea that the “new school” of teaching that embraces electronic technology cannot sacrifice the “old school” of human relationships because the human brain stills learns in largely the same way that it has for millennia.

at 10:10 you said turn left but i think you meant turn right.
10:10. U should be landing in the opposite direction if you want to land in to the wind. Your airplane shows a right base to final and landing with a tailwind.
I am not a pilot and I caught the same thing :) I have not even done my discovery flight.
Thank you for these videos. LOTS of good information here. It would be clearer to understand each of the 3 wind direction indicators if you could add the transparent "wind arrow" over each to show which way the wind is blowing across each. Also, I am a bit confused by a couple of moments in this video. First, starting at 9:24, Mr. Thompson is indicating wind in a left to right pattern while the diagram is showing the opposite. Second, starting at 10:01, Mr. Thompson indicates a left hand turn while simultaneously, the diagram is showing the opposite (a right hand turn). Any clarification is appreciated and thank you again for the videos!
agreed
yea i just asked the same question then seen yours.
Hello, there! Thank you for your thoughtful question, we appreciate you watching our Epic Flight Academy videos on RUclips. In order for you to get the most complete answer to your question, please review the video with your flight and or ground instructor wherever you are learning to fly, and consult with them.
Also agreed that this is confusing. Not only that, but the model is in the opposite direction it should be to land and take off based on the wind indicators.
Thanks for re-editing the direction of wind,
It is very useful. Thanks
Hello @Nguyễn Đại Phát. We could not reply to you on the old video since we had to take it down. We greatly appreciate your great eyesight in catching that glitch. Thank you so much!
@@EpicAviationEpicFlightAcademy Can I ask
10:12 In that situation, airplane are landing with the tailwind, so It that action acceptable in Aviation Law?
Can we change the direction of traffic pattern in the same runway to optimize the pros of headwind in takeoff and touchdown? If not, what will we do?
Thanks for your support
Great presentation. Thanks
Glad you liked it. Thank you!
