- TDL- AIWA HS-T06 Walkman Repair
If you have an old tape player, be it a walkman, portable casette, boom box, data-casette the chances are if you have not used it for a while then the belts are going to be worn. If you are lucky this will be the only issue you face!
I get this portable AIWA walkman apart and really have a good poke around it!

Thanks you lovely people, and keep on tinkering!
Still use mine regularly, I used to work in a place that had a restriction on what we could take into the office, no usb drives, phones, MP3 players, but walkmans don't feature in the "not allowed" list and while we are allowed to take in shop bought CDs for a portable CD player we were not allowed to take in burned CDs.
Got fed up listening to mix albums from a garage (dad rocks #972, greatest driving hits #27, etc) and set artist albums so decided to make a mix tape and go in with a Walkman.
Security grabbed it and it led to one of the most amusing telling offs ever. The guy was too young to recognise what it was, had to call in help. This person then described it as "oh yeah my mum used to have one of those, yeah they're allowed but same restrictions apply as cd players only shop bought albums can be used".
Next day, I walked in with Queen's greatest hits with a bit of tape on "the tab" ;) finally music freedom!
That's a wonderful workaround!! I just wish I had some of my old Fleetwood Mac tapes to rock out to!
for disassembly of electronic devices it's always worth googling for a service manual before hand ;) found just rn on internet archive
Thicko - The capstan is the spindle that the pinch roller pushes against with the tape between. It's the thing that makes the tape run at the right speed. :-)
Do you think it might have got larger or smaller over the years and effect the sound?
@@backofficeshow It's the capstan that controls the speed of the tape - if the pinch roller get worn/dirty, the tape would run too fast. As long as it makes roller makes good contact with the capstan, the size of the roller shouldn't make any difference. The capstan should be smooth, any dirt build up can cause flutter.
So the speed issue could be anything from a sticky motor to failed electronics?
Merci, cela m a été fort utile pour réviser mon aiwa hs-t06.
Can u replace belt for me on my aiwa tx506
How to do if can help be helpful
You need some E-6000 glue.
Or some 'ShoeGOO"
They are very similar to each other and work very well for this kind of stuff.
The Sony wm2 could likely have a broken center gear and need the belt replacing. Center gear is around £27 on ebay but is worth it as the machine sells for hella dosh and is very desirable, not quite a DD2 or DD3 but still good. Sooooo if ya don't want it you could always bung it my way 😉😋 I re-fell in love with tape recently and have bought and repaired a load but never got my mitts on a real high end unit (even busted ones go for silly money and I'm not as rich or stupid as crApple fans) 💵🤣
Thanks for the tips, I'll look into it (literally!). I just wish I kept my old music tapes, used to have hundreds. Would be really helpful now in setting these up
Have one of these, all buttons work and there's a battery signal but no sound from tape or radio. Any idea what's wrong?
Nice I just got an Aiwa hs-j02 a recording personal stereo from 1982 came complete with cases an clip on mic and the original headphones I have another th at I have had for years but not in the condition this latest one is . Hopefully you were not one of the bidders.
Sounds great, don't worry, I have plenty of these to fix without getting any more 😂
absolutely fascinating video, doc, loved seeing all the cogs moving, looked like some weird insect.. would look great as a steam punk type player.. i had an aiwa walkman as a kid, it always seemed way ahead technology wise than sony.. cos it had auto-reverse, dolby, fast forward and rewind, plus radio and graphic equalisers! mind you, my mate had one of those yellow waterproof sony ones that apparently you could go diving with! haha..
Did you find the odd undulating gubbins mesmerising?
@@backofficeshow yeah like a Vasarely op-art piece.
Very much like an anime device
i hope that the walkman i sended you workss it did the last time i used it about +30 years ago and it was a very expensive one
I did try it briefly and I think it does need work on its belt. I've got my fingers crossed they only uses belts some of the direct drive units are a real pain and I really would not want to break this one 😂
thank you sir
Uggh. I needed to know how you got the back off at 4:19. All the screws are out but it seems like there is one holding the back on in the middle near the battery cover. You didn't happen to save the footage between 4:19 and 4:21?
I won't have any footage other than what is posted. Is there a sticker with a hidden screw or clip perhaps?
idk how to insert the tape into it
Aiwa got bought by Sony and Sanyo got bought by Panasonic , Sanyo m3300 it's a well made unit and sounds really decent I would say it's better than all my Sony's I have one good working Sanyo and another that I think needs to be re capped and have both audio if,s replacing,,
It's funny to think that these need recapping but it makes sense
Yeah but aiwa was owned by sony until 2006. They no longer are owned by them
can you tell what kinda silicone lub you used? cheers

Look. At. Those.
BRO.
Try boiling the old belts in water for a few minutes. 10 mins in a microwave - might rescue them.
Seems like a lot of effort when I have a massive bag full of them 😂
does anyone in the USA know where I can get a sony wm-fx28 fixed please it's really important
Do you know what's wrong with it, just a belt?
Deoxit the gibbons and stuff.
Woah there, don't get too technical 😂
