Well Jeremy... having a decisively unfun experience in a public profession, turning it into improvised music, explaining clearly how to do it and exposing your emotion via another media. You are a freaking good artist Jeremy. And one that knows how to explain his "art form". RUclips and other media platforms may make it seem common, but it is not. it is freaking RARE. Thank you, you rock! Big love PS: could you please do a "punk" set/thing? Like the Modular World "Patch-On: Modular Punk Rock"
Hearing this a few months late, but can SO relate to loving "club" music and hating clubs for the most part. For me it goes back to being into drum'n'bass in the 90s and then going to hear it in clubs at volume (which is the best way to hear most club music) and just not feeling any connection to the social scenes there at all. Being gay around the drum'n'bass scene back then also did not feel safe, though I suspect if I'd gotten past my social anxiety and gotten to know people it would've been fine. You're doing amazing things with education here on the channel. If you WANT to perform out for people, then you can get creative with managing anxiety. But you also don't have to! Ultimately you don't have to make anyone happy but yourself. (And your landlord...capitalism amirite?) Thanks for this video. I got a lot of ideas from this about how to move past cool bleepy bloops towards things that have more structure and movement. Looking forward to trying them out!
One of the best sounding modular stuff I've heard. The drums pull their weight and some but plenty of smart desisions on top of that. And much love for being open about the panic attack ♥️
I like the fact that you explain things in a way that makes me understand what it happens, or those that mostly matter anyway. BUT what I realise every time I see this channel is the that the artistic result is ALWAYS very good. So the techniques that are used aim to a specific end, in a way that it makes sense musically. That requires both talent and knowledge.
It sounds amazing! The effort you have gone through is evident in every interaction of each module. I'd also dance for literal hours listening to this, the modulation interplay is doing rad things to my ears. You're a fucking gem
So much of the Eurorack youtube content I've heard falls into the "interesting sound design" category, whereas your content is actually musical and funky. Nice 1 fella.
Anxiety is a butt. It sounds like stopping the set early was the healthiest option at the time. That sounds like a victory for emotional health. ❤ Thanks for sharing your rig and your thoughts with us all the same! For what it's worth, it's inspiring seeing you work through your musical journey. This kinda reminds me to make the most of the gear I have, and see how much more mileage I can get out of them.
Bitbox micro will let you slice clips so if you were to make even loops in a row in one clip then just pop an attenuator into the cv in and set it to to control slice position that would give you the ability to change loops or your kit samples on the fly.
Killer rig. As someone that uses modular to improvise live, I can relate to this. Most times things go pretty decent, but sometimes things go sideways and I get panicked. It just goes further south when that happens. One thing I do to save myself when that inevitably happens is I have my ipad on deck preloaded with something I can use as a fallback position that I can fade out the modular to so I can buy some time to fix my patch. It’s a helpful safety net that gives me a minute to take a breath and get my shit together. No one knows the difference anyway. Your method with the arpitecht and moskwa is a clever application for performance.
I’m a bit late watching this video, but I slowly begin to understand how much preparation you have to do in order to get there! Having the good samples, the tuning, everything working together in a nice flow, without even talking about your musical theory, tastes and all. It’s really super impressive, and it sounds so good! (And I’m sorry it was a tough experience though!.. there really should be a way for people to be left alone and not coerced to go to the club! Take care!)
You're amazing Jeremy. Thanks for sharing all of this with us. Had an idea... what about a sustain pedal on the keyboard... that way you could free up your right hand for more fine tuning after you've "captured" the chord..
Great job Jeremy and the whole rack is so well thought out, especially with simple clever tricks like the sample triggering through Pamela. Hope you work out a way to manage your performance anxiety.
Get a fursuit! Personally, I take an edible before performing and it seems to help every time with the shakes and the panic attack. And I do have a question! What were you using for the voice changing part?
I know its quite a lot of sampler, with a big sticker price and a lot of hp use, but the rossum assimil8or might be up your alley for loops and one shots (plus so much more, it's my favorite sound source aside from the intellijel shapeshifter, which I end up mining a lot from with A8 for samples) look into the zones functionality for something akin to that ableton style clip launching technique
I love everything about this. I dream of doing the same kind of thing - a performance modular + vocals w/ FX I also relate to the anxiety about actually playing in clubs. It's too damn loud lol, sensory overload. Earplugs help. Thanks for the firmware tip on Plaits! I just want it locked in tune. One suggestion: instead of the Trig input, I send gates to Level for more control over note length - alternating between staccato and legato on a synth line is endlessly satisfying! But then the percussive sounds will behave a little differently...
I imagine you can switch between drum loops in stereo with an ER-301, but I would need to verify to be certain. I don’t have a Bitbox, but that also seems like a likely candidate.
This is cool - one of the first all Eurorack systems I've seen that didn't make me feel like it really needed some kind of external sequencer, like a Hapax or Deluge or something. I take it both the Moskwa & and Arpitecht have their own quantization to scales? As for the stage-fright thing, my technique when DJing is to not look up, and just jam away for my own enjoyment.
Cant you send program changes to the Bitbox Micro and have that load a new preset every time you want to trigger new loops? That would get you stereo and still be automated via gates like with the Sample Drum.
The real unsung hero of the system is that 4 channel VCA tucked in between Stages and Prism... Not sure what the name of the module is its doing a lot and I don't think it's mentioned at all Anyone know what VCA that is? Just curious cause it's so compact
This was an awesome and inspiring video, as I would love to build my own self-contained performance rack (some day... hopefully...). Thank you for sharing your knowledge and process. Someone else commented on this earlier, but I'm curious why you went with multiple sequencer modules over an external sequencer (e.g. Squarp, Deluge)? Did these allow you to do things you couldn't do otherwise? Convenience with setting up for a performance? Just more fun this way?
Hey, Jeremy! Lovely video! I wanted to ask where are those more pastel color cables from. I've been trying to find more cables in colors that I like and I happen to really love those!
@@RedMeansRecording you should check out the vxc 2220 from analog FX. It's a 10 band analog vocoder at 36hp and no one seems to be talking about it. (this was absolutely my sneaky way to ask you about the vx2220)

This is an amazing setup. The only problem i see with it, is historically, pizza and workouts generally don’t go together ;)
They do, just not in that order! 🍕🍕🍕
The ninja turtles are pretty buff
@@RedMeansRecording they are! And i’m not saying they can’t, just more that they usually don’t. Either way, again, amazing setup!
Once again you blow my mind with what can be done on modular.
4:16 1010 bitbox micro jeremy !! thats exactly the sampler you need.

Big “suggested system” vibes. I fully support your fursuit idea.

I love this setup and you totally killed it at the show!
Excited to do it again
It’s beautiful how everything fits perfectly into the rack

Ah the octatrack approach. Interesting idea.
And you could ‘pre-program’ transition segments and ply them while you reset your modules for the next section.

Damn, this is killer. Such a great sound, so many great ideas to try and steal. :)
Very tasty. Thank you for sharing that beautiful setup.
I think the Squarp Rample supports stereo, so you could do 4 mono channels, or 1 stereo and 2 mono channels, or 2 stereo channels.
Great way of doing the drum loops.

Sounds fantastic!
Excellent video.... really nice to see explanation of how to do performance stuff with a relatively simple rig.... thanks I learned a lot!!!!
great rundown! such a cool rig!

Oh a COMB filter, misheard that a bit

Brilliant 👌
I'd love to see you build something like this in VCV rack... that would be amazing

how was this free to watch??? fantastic as always :)
from watching your other video i was interested in how you were manipulating the bassline like that (jam break)

yum yum
rossum assimil8tor can do that with zones and record cv
Yes

So I can separate gates from pitch and have full improvising control over all my sequences on the fly.
@@RedMeansRecording Ahhhh, gotcha (and I probably should have picked up on that from the video itself). Thanks for the reply!
and it's stereo

They're all hosa!
If you really want nice pastels check out the modbap cables
Wonderful :-)
I won’t ask you to go outside. Please stay indoors and create more of these videos.
I use Pams for the Euclidean beats. Any reason not to… since you’re already using her?
Try changing them on the fly
Im depressed now, tell me there is hope. 👁
Well, I _have_ been asking for a while to see you perform in a flaming fursuit…
104hp?
Yo Jeremy, what's that case? Looks like it's suitcaseable?

Its about more than the vocoder. The perform ve does stereo doubling, reverb, and other effects. Plus compression and desessing
@@RedMeansRecordingHad to scroll wayyyy too far to find what you were using for the vocoder. Definitely looking into getting a perform ve now!
