@@RUHappyATM If war does break out, Penang will be the hub for Taiwanese investments as they have all the Taiwanese infrastructure there since the 1980s. The same goes for Chinese infrastructure since the 1990s and US infrastructure since the 1970s. It's the reason why the Malaysian island is known as the Silicon Island of Asia.

@@RUHappyATMI'm American and let me tell you, you are wrong here. Intel has just invested the most amount of money into Malaysia recently to make Penang the global hub for its fabs. Let's not forget in the last few years, Malaysia overtook South Korea, Taiwan and the US even in semiconductor sales in the US. They sold 20% of all the semiconductors sold in the US in the last few years. That's more than the 12, and 10% from Taiwan, South Korea and the US.

It was the previous government that had this great fortune vision and set the foundation for the semiconductor industry in Malaysia. Putting the politics aside, the government instruments back then, such as MITI and MAEDA, really had done fantastics and professional jobs to lure and sustain the semiconductor FDIs in Malaysia despite strong competition from neighboring ASEAN countries. Let's not forget about this. Without this foundation, you can not go this far ahead today. While we should embrace the new era, we should be grateful and not defame / mar the good contribution of the old era with comments of political nuances.

Invest in Malaysia or any other countries connected to the South China Sea is very risky. Only Indonesia which is relatively safe because one can avoid the potentially big conflict region in the near future. One can ship from S Korea and Japan through east Philipphine downward between Borneo and Sulawesi, then move passing west part of Sumatra to the Indian ocean. Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singspore are very risky countries considering the future conflict in the South China Sea.

Once completed the ship can stop at Klang Port or Kuantan Port and transport the good using the new ECRL train from East to West part of Malaysia without stopping in Singapore which is more cheaper...
