Some graters shred in both or all directions. I usually run hot water on it until the cheese starts melting but this method seems way faster (though not always convenient)

That's genius!!! I always end up cutting myself trying to clean those!
I use a small brush for those. You can probably use an old disinfected toothbrush too.

lemons are an expensive cleaning implement
I saw a clip somewhere where someone turned the lemon skin only inside out and used that.That works also so waste used responsible.
