    This fellow's talent for teaching allowed me to cover a LOT of ground in less than 40 minutes. He's both articulate and relevant, guiding me step-by-step in a logical progression. He's found a way to sync what he is saying with what he's doing such that it's like sitting next to him during a demonstration. Well done!

    I built a db in MS access for a friend but they use a Mac, so I had to migrate it to FileMaker Pro, which I'd never used before.
    20 minutes after watching your great tutorial, I was confident enough that I knew I could do it.
    You're a great teacher. Thank you so much.

    I have been fiddling with Filemaker for a long time, but this elementary presentation was valuable despite all my experience. What I seem unable to do, however - and this goes beyond the scope of this discussion - is set up a layout or layouts for earnings on the one hand and expenditures on the other, together with the relevant summary files. The result is always a mess, with one related file in an portal cancelling the other and refusing to display on the same layout. I keep two separate files: one earnings and the other expenditures, and, of course that works well with a button so I can leap from expenses to earnings and vice versa. I can't send you my file sketches because I work in Italian, and the point really is that I'll be interested in knowing whether you have addressed yourself to this problem yet and, if so, can you refer me to your presentation. In any case, your videos are well done!

    • @FMBeginner
      @FMBeginner  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Filya, normally I would refer you to the "portal in 12 minutes" tutorial, but I have a feeling you already went through it. If my interpretation of your word is correct, you are trying to put 2 sets of table in the same page
      What I would recommend is to look at setting up a relationship with [X].
      You can double click in the relationship graph the [ = ] icon between your connected relationship, and change that to [ x ].
      That means when you create a portal, it will no longer show related record, but ALL the record within the other table.
      I can't really guide you through all the way as it does takes a lot of explanation. But try the [x] connection thing and see if it works out for you.

    • @FMBeginner
      @FMBeginner  6 лет назад +1

      Check this page out, it got some useful information about the X relationship.

    In the version I have, the 'Port Setup' dialog box at minute 36:20 there is no 'New Add-on Table' item... so I had to first create a 'Notes' table and then do this step. It took me quite a while to figure out the problem :)

    Thank you so so much for making this! At my job I've been using adobe and excel to make forms and stuff. Adobe is god awful for it imo, or maybe it's just the version work has. Excel is decent at forms, way easier to use than adobe 10 or wtfever. But I discovered this on the server at work and I think this is going to be the program I use to make forms and stuff from now on!

    Very simple and precise way of presenting this software. Could you make a video on differences between FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Pro Advanced. Thanks

    • @FMBeginner
      @FMBeginner  6 лет назад

      I most focus on beginner tutorial so likely I won't be making one for your specified topic.
      But the general difference between FMPA and FMP is that the advance version contains a number of feature that is more developer focused.
      For example a debugger to help you run script step by step to check for potential bug; or also the ability to create "custom function".
      It's more aimed at making developer's life better. But as of FileMaker 17, apparently they combined both of them together, so now technically everyone will be using the advanced version.
