Excellent. Ive been using FM on and off for 20-30 years but there is always stuff to learn.

Did I miss something? You began by introducing the "Launcher" app. As far as I can tell, we never got back to making that app operational. While I found your introduction to FileMaker development extremely useful--for which I'm very appreciative--I'm left unsatisfied with that "hanging chad." Tangential side-barring is common human behavior and certainly can be useful when creating on the fly. I would characterize this presentation as something of a Mandelbrot set fractal having intricate details and self-similar patterns, but not closing on expectations. In any case, thank you for advancing my understanding of this amazing product.

I loved this video. As a brand new user (day 3) a lot was still over my head but I loved being able to see your face (I lip read a lot), have the screen blown up to emphasize areas, as well as learn some basic stuff. I look forward to coming back and reviewing this again in a few weeks. I will continue to look for more videos done by you as I enjoyed your teaching style.

Thank you for your kind words! I do try to make it easier to follow tech instruction on screen when things are so hard to follow when screens are recorded really small.

    HI,
I am wondering how to made Database for my Model Railway Layout, that will have Numerous Items included as Baseboards(18), Signals(??), Sensors(???), Points(150), Motors(150, (Tortoise , (Servos))), Arduinos(??), Power Packs(??) and other Items(10-20) as well. I wish to have a list of EVERYTHING on its own Page and be able to Connect to each other, being in Baseboards Page I think will have ALL the ABOVE and be clickable to each other and/or back to MAIN PAGE, So with the Above ADDING TO or perhaps deleting if needed, or to one or another may need to ADD extra items, like with POINTS, now 150, may be extra to 155 or 160 - I have seen your video and enjoyed it, at the end you showed something about Relationships, this is not what I am after, each ITEM will be on a HOME PAGE, clickable to THEIR OWN PAGE and return or elsewhere.
Or what is THIS called so I can go and find it please.
    THANKS Graeme

This was helpful. What version are you using here?
I used FMP about 25 years ago, at my job, for a short while.
I want a very simple DB for personal info. I want to create file cards with information, and be able to sort them in a list, like I remember from back then. This video makes me think I'm on the right track.
I don't want to spent $20/month on a subscription. I see older versions (18) that I can buy outright. Am I going the right way?
    Thanks
    Sam

NEW FILEMAKER EXAMPLES has fields related with a $$FieldID. What does the $$ do?

When using scripts and using the "Set Variable" function, if you just type "variable" in the name field and click ok, it will add one $ to the front. This is session specific to the script, so when the script has finished running, the variable will cease to exist. A $$ variable will last within the system until the user closes the file, and is helpful if you want to use it in another script at another point in time, or if you want to store something like the user's name. An alternative to the $$ variable is to create a global field and store your information in there. Hope I helped.
