As funny as it is, the anime is surprisingly well done. Especially in Marias case when you think about the fact that in her hometown she is an outcast because everyone thinks she is the daughter of a nobleman and in the school she is an outcast because she is the daughter of a commoner, which is why she likes Catarina so much. It's nothing too special, but when starting I just expected a fun harem isekai anime. Now I am literally hoping for a Catarina and Maria ending.
Something I really like about this anime is that every character has genuine reasons to love Bakarina who may as well be a normal person in this world because her magic is pretty weak compared to everyone at school Unlike maybe 70% of other Isekai/Harem animes where the main character has a harem pretty much just because they're stupid OP

Catarina is so lovable and did so much for the members of the harem that it's no wonder everyone falls in love with her. She wasn't given their love arbitrarily. She earned their love. As for the harem members, they're all extremely likable, their reasons for loving her are real and not at all superficial, they each have unique personalities, and none of them would be a better or worse choice. And while there is jealousy between them, they don't let it get in the way of being friends with each other.

I don't understand why people call Lady Catarina "Bakarina". Sure from the perspective of a noble person in the game she is clueless and unusual, and she is incredibly oblivious to love flags, but she is actually being a lot smarter about these events than people give her credit for. Remember, she deduces all on her own that dark magic is afoot in the noble houses, she sabotaged any and all evidence that would prove her guilty of bullying Maria just by being Maria's best friend, and because of her friendly and optimistic nature she saved every conquerable character (and even a few unconquerable ones) from their tragic lives. Plus... to be fair she knew that Lady Catarina never got together with anyone in the game, so she probably just assumed that it was impossible for anyone to fall in love with her - not to mention the fact that she's mentally 17 years older than everyone else. Lady Catarina went about her reincarnated life with the goal of "be the best person you can be to avoid your own demise", and that one smart decision led to her making EVERYTHING and EVERYONE around her happier and better off. If you ask me, that is not stupidity... just unexpected wisdom.

To all those who don't know: This is why I love this series. The Otome Isekai is quite a rehashed genre/material. Most of them (or one's I've read) usually had the Reincarnated Villainess and "original heroine" always be in conflict with each other (and sometimes the original heroine becomes the "new antagonist). This was the first Otome Isekai I've found that didn't follow that trope.
And one more time here goes the saving the girl and falling in love Cliché again... But but you know what!? I love it this time 💙 both Katrina and Maria are so precious💕
To be fair, the girl has spent some 7 or so years without friends. Now some beautiful woman of high standing, one of the potential queen candidates, who actually likes the coking she spent so much damn time on, shows up and defends her from bullies. I think she can be excused for this one.
The difference is that Bakarina actively sought out to improve her relationship with the people around her although the results are not what she expected. This is very different from most harem shows where the mc are either forced into the situation or they accidentally make the the girl fall in love doing what they usually do.

Up to this point, everyone else saw Maria as "That girl with light magic". Catarina however refuses to let labels define people and instead goes to see who they really are. All Maria ever wanted was to be seen for who she is, and Catarina unknowingly granted her wish. Given that, It's not shocking that Maria would fall for Catarina.
Interesting to note is that in Japanese culture, calling someone by their name without an honorific (san/chan/kun/sama/etc.) indicates familiarity or closeness, more so than just being friends, and is more reserved for family or even lovers; to call someone who you are not close to by their name without an honorific attached is considered rude. So it is incredibly significant when Maria asks Catarina to just refer to her as Maria and not Maria-chan. It essentially means that Maria is expressing a desire to be closer to Catarina, possibly as lovers, and not just friends.
Catarina did say "Call me whatever you like", so Maria does have a choice to address Catarina without the honorifics. But Catarina did a lot for Maria sticking up for her and offering her friendship despite the massive gap in social status. So the way I see it, Maria addressing her as "Catarina-sama" is out of love and admiration.
We've all heard stories of maidens falling in love with knights in shining armour who come to their rescue. But, let it never be said that the knight in question couldn't also be as dense as a brick 😅
A great many romance games are always built around a 'healer' character fixing everyone's issues and yet the protagonist is usually more broken than any of them and goes ignored. Catarina was so interested in making the people around her happy she accidentally healed all of them at the same time. And yet now instead of maria being broken it's Catarina accidentally breaking herself- 7/8 years continually telling herself she is a worthless background character people will come to detest has created a wall of self-doubt so thick none of the others can break through it.
even though this is such a silly comedy anime the expression on Maria's face is drawn so well. Like you can tell how much sadness and pain she had been in up to that point.
I have a theory about her light magic. Light and dark magic seem to be the rarest kinds of magic. If dark magic is obtained through a ritual maybe light magic works in reverse. Maybe only someone who’s shown to have a pure heart can obtain it wither they’re rich or poor.
Maria needed someone to approach her in a more "friendly" than in a romantic way, if the story was the "game's story" it would have been a little frustrating or sad to watch. I love this anime!
And yet when cararina tried to talk to her outside of the student council room maria didn't seem to even recognise her. A part of me wonders if that has to do with the events of the story being on rails- Maria cannot interact properly outside of set events until catarina forces the change.

I’m in the middle of watching “I’m the villainess so I’m taming the final boss” and it’s so nice it see a mixed harem instead of a reverse harem/regular anime harem. It’s really interesting and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it been used hy another anime series (to my own knowledge could be wrong)

I watches this with Shadow The Hedgehog. He broke down after he heard so many Marias and Chaos Blasted my room. Its now a pile of dust.
