I really like this one, very Spicy Leather with like a ghost of vanilla in the background, the vanilla comes and goes but it´s definitely there, to me is intoxicating, this one shines in the cold and IMO the dry down is were the magic happens. Great unboxing thank you Marc!!!
I get that you kinda have to weed out the boring ones but generally Montale is a pretty good deal. For 80 bucks you get a scent you only need to spray 3 times and it will last all day and people will smell you. Tobacco oud serves me really well because of that.
My opinion of the brand is they use the same synthetic oud, cheapish rose, and the same vanilla note in many of their releases. They have so many releases that there are a few I think are decent (Black Oud for memories sake, Ristretto Cafe). But they are too similar, and often middling quality, for me to get excited about.
That's the issue with many noses that give up a brand, this is such a stigma of Montale. Try to find the synthetic oud, cheapish rose or vanilla is chocolate greedy (chocolate powder), honey aoud (sweet honey), cuir d'arabie (leather). I know there's so much to weed through but they have some good stuff.
I am not a big time Montale collector but I did like this one and considered buying it... In the end, I went with Oud Dream and Oudrising (a lot of common components but these two are more complex and better built).
I think Montale is a good entry to niche realm...well some are. But after sniffing things for the past 10 years, I feel that Montale is too synthetic. Mancera is on the other side, quite good. Thanks for sharing this unboxing Marc
You need to check out Mancera Aoud Exclusif - it’s the highest quality fragrance that Mancera/Montale have ever produced in terms of ingredients. So smooth, you won’t believe it’s Mancera
I have not tried all from the brand but the discovery set I got most seemed to the same esp those with OUD. That being, I am also aware that there are fans of the individual bottles who can tell them apart and live them. I have Honey Oud from them which I think is lovely and from Montake there is Red tobacco which opens harsh but the dry down is amazing. I cannot get over they opening though hence I don't have a bottle. One of the strangest house(s) in fragcomm for sure.

Love this brand, you should check out oud dream, Arabians tonka, and wood on fire, happy to see you returning to montale.

But 2 exceptions:
I love Honey aoud .
And Saharian wind .

I wouldn't go as far as calling it garbage, there's many great ones from the brand. It seems like the stigma of this brand is exactly what you said.
Maybe garbage was a little harsh. Just not a fan of the brand. Same goes for Mancera.
