This is really unfortunate Dave. You gave it more than a fair chance. I have had decent luck with the cheaper 4DRC toy drones but this gps one is definitely junk.
Yeah I thought I may have just been unlucky by getting a faulty one at first until I was editing this video and found a bunch of 1 🌟 reviews on this drone as well being junk! 4DRC should be ashamed selling these pos. I've got a 4drc with gps. Looks like a DJI. It gets gps, but doesn't help. It just flies where ever it wants. First time I flew it it flew into the house. I can get one of those 15 dollars drones with no gps and fly them with no problem. It's crazy. One of the best I ever had was one of those 15 dollar drones. What I want in a drone is a good camera and sd card. I don't need it to fly miles. My main use is to look in places I can't get to, or is hard to get to. I had some that did the job well. Lost them in a flood and took a chance on that price of crap. I paid up for it. Maybe I can mod it.

Yeah Dan both my test flights were equally as bad, first time around i managed to get it to fly in GPS mode but not for long, maybe a minute tops... cause it then lost gps satellite lock and started drifting away resulting in a crash on the field grass at the college and broke a full set of props. I only realised all the bad 1 star reviews on this drone on Aliexpress while editing this video so had to add them on screen to show you guys that it seems to be a common issue with this company's POS product. The 4DRC store on Aliexpress is bad at customer service as well, this drone took about 6 weeks to arrive from when i paid for it, i questioned them about 3 weeks after i paid why they had not shipped it as the tracking number was not correct or even possibly fake and got no response. It wasn't until i opened up a case on them they responded and gave me the correct tracking number. Never again buying from 4DRC, they are a crap company that makes POS products. I've got exactly the same drone. Everything works perfect. 19 satelites within 20 -50 sec. Responsivenes is acceptable. Collision avoidance is acceptable. English manual is in the app. For this money it is perfect.
You're lucky i guess, i flew this drone one more time after this video review... and GUESS WHAT? the piece of shit gained just enough satellites to take off and fly around for about 1 minute tops then lost all satellites and flew away on its own never to be seen again. The Find My Drone GPS co-ordinates led me to a front yard of a house which i went straight too by using the app feature and it was no where to be seen so that is another fault by false inaccurate coordinates recorded on the app. I still will not recommend this drone to anyone, it's RUBBISH!
@@PERTHWESTOZRC well I agree that it is far from being ideal... Yet for 40 USD ... I spent more for 2 bottles of wine. It is Chinese mass production with very low quality. I disassembled it today out of curiosity, there is a separate plug for GPS antenna... Maybe in your case, there was something not properly connected...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dude, you should try a FPV quadcopter some time. (But learn to fly on a simulator first, it's definitely not the same thing. 😬) I'm not exactly a great pilot, but even I can fly one. 😂 (They don't fly themselves and you need to make every little, minimal, adjustment on the sticks... But it's crazy how it's worth it!) Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

I flew the drone for the first time in the house with no gps and not using the camera, it was not stable and it crashed into bunch of wires near the TV. I tried it outdoors and connected it to the camera, it was working, but 15 seconds later, it disconnected. I tried to reconnect it but the drone's wifi was never to be seen. I restarted my phone and the drone, and nope, it was gone, the drone wifi was gone forever and it was impossible to use the camera on the drone. This was really upsetting but the GPS still worked without the camera, but the optical flow, wouldn't work. Maybe its because it needs to be connected to the camera. This is a bit sad considering I waited a really long time for the drone to arrive, just so it didn't work. I never had a recording or a picture taken because the drone's wifi just disappeared. However I had ordered a toy drone before and had the same issues with it, I had no idea why the camera wasn't connecting on my smartphone (iphone 12 pro max). And it actually seems like the remote I got was from another 4DRC drone, the ''fast f-4''.

There were quite a few reviews from other people left on the same listing I bought this drone from aliexpress with the same exact issues. Gps module was faulty, one second it would gather 10 satellites then drop to only 3 or even 1 satellite the next! I attempted to fly this drone one more time after making this review video and guess what? Yep it went from a stable hover over for less than a minute with 12 satellites locked on gps.... then next second it lost all of them and took off doing its own thing unresponsive to my input on the sticks to try bring it down manually and flew away 😅 so no I will not recommend this crap drone! 4DRC drones are RUBBISH!

I think you may have a bad drone perhaps, I have this model and haven't had any of the problems your encountering..
