Yo! This is exactly the information I needed. I've been a back yard mechanic for about forty-five years and am working on a 50hp Mercury and lost spark. Twice. I was missing direction. Direction of flow that is. So thanks for for the direction for the direction I need to follow!
Wow... Thanks for this vid. You really made me comprehend the flow chart. I will also watch your vid on "how to diagnose no spark." I drove to Albuquerque, New Mexico (from Las Cruces) to pickup a 1970s Johnson 80hp outboard. I only paid $50 for everything but the steering. Came with all the controls. Seller told me that there was no-spark, and he diagnosed it to the CDI. Is the CDI box the same thing as the "power pack?"
Captain Willy i have a 1977 402 electric start mercury that had no spark at all replaced stator and fly wheel used from marine shop and still no spark. Never used puller just took top nuts off and replaced stator and fly wheel then bolted fly wheel back on. Well there is still no spark.Motor turns over fine but no spark, used cheapo ohm tester and the results showed .794 and .795 when both wires probed to trigger still in motor what the heck could it be what other checks can be done. Any info would be appreciated thank you.
Great video !!! Good info.. I've got a 110 HP Evinrude, It starts and runs good. But after about 15 minutes, the battery is dead! (New Battery...) Sound like the stator?
Mercury 125 “2+2” Two-Stroke Been reliable for years. Just now started bucking when transitioning to all 4 cylinders. Won’t do it every time. RPM gauge has never worked either. Any tips would help before I break into this weekend
My 90 evinrude won't start, I replaced relay starter switch nd now they say its the electrical box bc when you turn on key it doesn't go past the electrical box,, any idea?, please nd thank you.
Will a bad ignition coil cause an outboard not to start ..it starts only when i spray starter fluid into carb..when it idles it hesitates and stutters.
Hello there boat Community! I hope someone see’s this, I recently got into boats and motors and am trying to repair a 4 stroke merc 6hp 2007, which has been standing for about 1-2 Years. But as I dont really know too much im having some troubles, theres no spark, (already changed oil, Spark plug and gasoline) so I thought it was the Coil, so I brushed that real clean of most rust, sadly I dont have an Ohm reader to test it. My guess is that the kill switch cables are the problem though, would you have some procedures or tips to finding what my motor wants and or needs, thank you in advance. I do not have the money to let a professional look at it or buy any expensive spare parts. Have a nice day.
What if you have a single coil that fires 2 cylinders, but has no spark on 1 cylinder? That's my problem, I bought a new coil and still no spark on top cylinder.
So what would you say it is if I have spark on the left 3 cylinders, but no spark on the 3 right cylinders, already replaced power pack, still no spark
@@Madhandsboy have you watched the other video? Tagged in this video. Your cdi "power pack. Is being told to release power to the coils with information from the trigger. Using your dvom. @@CAPTAINWILLY Will a faulty stator cause no spark to the coils in a four stroke outboard that doesnt have CDI, suzuki df140 ? In the service manual it doesn't mention anything about the stator in the troubleshooting chart

If each cylinder has its own coil than its likely a trigger problem. If there is one coil with two spark plug wires coming off. Than thats called a waste spark system amd it is supposed to fire at the same time

Great Video for us, just recommend you to answer questions for everyone that took their time to watch your video, is gonna take u one cigar!
Thank You so much. best video i have watched after hours of searching.
If the stator is just generating power, like an alternator, why does it need so many wires? Thanks for taking the time, appreciate the videos.
Great video.. you make things simple
Thanks for sharing. Good explanation. Can the stator send low voltage that can spark at low speed but not high speed under load?
Excellent video! Very clear and informative! Thanks!
Thanks for the straightforward explanation

Yea. Awsome thanks man
Great video. what is different from ADI?
very very informative, thanks a million
Nice video! What could cause a short life on my coil for a 9.8 hp tohatsu 4 stroke?
Saw cigarette in hand, hit subscribe. Simple.
What would cause a stator to burn out over and over? Motor is 2 stroke about 25 years old. Thx.

thank you for the video. does the switch box change the ac v from the stator to DC V?
Nope. The rectifier does.I watched a few videos and it was mentioned.

Does ADI has switch box to store juice as well >

Yes
Is this the rectifier?. It converts AC to DC chargers

Can u explain Yamaha four-stroke Yamaha 8 outboard engine starting problem
What if you have a single coil that fires 2 cylinders, but has no spark on 1 cylinder? That's my problem, I bought a new coil and still no spark on top cylinder.
Your coul has 3 input wires, one earth, one cylinder input from cdi, other cylinder input from CDI
i put a light to chick every thang and its getting power to every thang but the coils all 4 no power would all 4 go bad at once
Does a bad trigger look banged up and broken? We are not mechanics l😅
Rectifier?
