  • Hook - Hanak H130 BL #12
Thread - Semperfli Nano Silk 12/0 Black
    Tail - Coq De Leon
Rib - Yellow UTC thread 140d
    Body - Heron wing fibres
    Wing - Troutline Campbell Tan
Dubbing - Troutstalkers Possum Natural Boosted.
The best of the dry fly sport maybe behind us but it is still possible to tempt Grayling up to the dry when conditions permit. I have found this pretty handy on those days when the sun is high in the sky and the fish venture to the surface to feed.
Couple of interesting techniques in there, I hope you enjoy the pattern. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Have to chase a heron by the looks of it! It does give a nice body Lindsay. I like this fly and I will have a go at it. Thanks for another one dude.

In my opinion a Goose plume have the same grey color like a Heron. I use Goose which is easier to find and it give a nice body but is a bit brittle

Thank you, sorry there is nothing quite like the Heron fibres. The nearest to it is Parrot but that can be difficult to source as well.

Hi Lindsay, I'm getting into fly tying (used to do it as a kid). Got a good price on Ebay for an Anvil Apex vice and am now looking at tools and materials, what a minefield!
Looking for good quality tools which will last a lifetime but not cost the earth - what brands would you recommend?
Materials-wise, any advice there? Brands of thread, hooks, etc. Where do you get your materials from?
My plan is to pick a handful of patterns at a time and get the stuff to do those, slowly building up a collection over time as seems rather expensive outlay!

I have built my collection of stuff for tying over the last 30 years. It’s scary thinking about how much money I have pumped in over time. I would do as you suggest concentrate on the materials you will need for the type of fishing you do. I get my stuff from all over really Troutline.ro supply most of my stuff nowadays but I pick bits up from other retailers as well. As for tools buy the best you can afford. You can get away with mediocre tools except for scissors. Buy a good set of scissors and look after them. Don’t cut foam or use them to poke at things. Good scissors are a tiers best friend.
