    Great video, just a tip learned from a decade of professional landscaping. The concrete can be used as a landscape bed edge. With a 4-5in flat shovel you can trench at an angle against the concrete and remove the soil from the bed. This leaving a 2-3in dip, which would allow the concrete to hold the preferred material in the bed.

    Thanks for the video. I think I'll give this a try. Also be careful with having mulch up against the house as it can increase the likelihood of termites invading the house. May want to leave a 6in gap between the mulch and the house then fill in with lava rock or gravel.

    For $20 a scoop I get #2 crushed limestone to decorate and use as a "mulch" in beds. You only have to buy rock once and it looks badass. You can sprinkle weed barriers like Preen into it and the rain will wash it down to the soil below and help keep weed growth to a minimum. It never washes away, no matter how hard a rain you get.

    Great job Dan and hopefully will stop the mess on your sidewalk. Over here all roofs have guttering so it looks a little odd not seeing any as it asking for the water to go where it wants and maybe penetrate the brickwork etc. Just an observation I noticed you've trimmed your two bushes in front of your left hand window so I guess you've given up on the castle look!

    • @DansVlog

      flch95 it’s a very good idea. Even with gutters, pooling can occur with heavy rains and with pooling comes a mess all over the walkways

  • @luistello1971

    My only concern is that water should flow away from the house and this edging blunts this action. In time this may result in damage to the foundation by the build up of water pressure. If there were openings in the edging to allow water to flow away but keep the mulch back you have a winner. Otherwise, it is perfect for putting around tree/mulch away from the house.

  • @SHendry1983
    @SHendry1983 3 года назад

    I’m using the ones I bought for a 15 by 15 foot fire pit. Since people will be stepping over the border, what do you do about the ending piece that will be sharp? Would you suggest bending in the very last piece, and would it even be able to be pinched so much without breaking? Or are you able to overlap it a little bit so their isn’t an end piece? I don’t want anybody to slice their foot if barefoot.

    You did a great job doing the edging but your really going to want to address the drainage issue. Its going to end up being a bandaid to your problems. Gutters would be ideal with having beds that way. But stone would be a better option for that bed to allow for a little better drainage

    What is the best way to trim grass along metal landscape edging? *When the edging is 2-3” taller than the grass. I’ve found that using a string trimmer over time is causing my St Augustine to “eat away” from the metal edge. I just redid these areas this Spring with fresh sod. I don’t want to make the same mistake again with a string trimmer.

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  4 года назад

      I use the weedeater just try not to weed eat too low

    • @TheGman4691
      @TheGman4691 3 года назад

      It also helps to run the weedeater at idle speed when next to the edging. Weedeater string can also wreak havoc with vinyl skirting. Running at idle speed seems to cut the grass and cause less damage to the edging or skirting. Just have to go a little slower and take a little care. It hasn't really been much of a hassle for me or added much time to the work. Hope this helps.

    Question--- trying to see or find out how flush to put metal against the concrete? I had erosion along my drive so chose the metal to retain runoff of topsoil.
    . My landscape help put the metal in about 1/4+ inch away from concrete. I am afraid rain will collect and pull out dirt. Should they do it over? Dry Oklahoma climate.
    Thanks

    It doesn’t remove the original issue with water due to no drainage. You will still have wood chips all over the place after a heavy rain and since the soil will no have drainage it may destroy your plants and attract underground termites.

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  3 года назад +1

      Yeah except three or four years later, you’re wrong and I only very rarely have to throw down a bag or two to spruce up the color. The wood chips don’t float out but the water does flow out so… Put that in your termite and smoke it

For accents and color you can use other types of rock in smaller quantities within the bed so it doesn't get too expensive, but still gives lots of depth and color to your landscape cover.
