When you say that gpt for instance doesn’t create new information and just reflects our thoughts back on us makes me think, are not we all do that. They say you are the some of your closest 5 friends and thats not far off. We are just neural networks trained on our closest environment, what may be makes us different is the fact that we constantly process the data, not only when asked to. The key difference may be being the fact that we have emotions. This additional layer of chemistry makes us be happy, scared or sad. Once AI has emotions, I am afraid we will face an existential crisis on a level of “god is dead”. Not will be “we are dead”, meaning now there is literally no difference between us and machines we make. To sum it all up, maybe soon we realize that not only ai we build is not truly conscious, neither we are
I talked a bit more about my thoughts on this in my video on sentience, I think that while we do reflect a lot of our surroundings, we still have our own thoughts, actions, choices, and desires. Emotions definitely contribute to that. GPT has yet to develop its own desires, and to be able to act without prompting. However, the comparison of us to neural nets are probably not far off (especially as neural nets are meant to be modeled on the brain/neurons), and whether or not we have free will, etc have been the core of philosophy. So it is good to ponder about this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Not sure why you popped up in my recommended but thanks for bringing this to my attention
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
I say..... "fuck it we ball"
