hey quill. My fav way to play MoM is: High Men to get Paladins because they are great. 7 books of Sorcerer to get my favorite unit: Sky Drakes The MoM manual will always be my fav book of any game.
Master of Magic is one of my favorite games of all time. I used to play it when I was a teenager at a friends place. The many different magic items, heroes and abilities always gave me a sense of wonder and discovery which are still my favorite part of games.
@@davidbeppler3032 I saw a video quite recently about that. Very excited but I hope they can do it justice. I appreciate you letting me know since I could have completely missed this.
I love MoM; I really wish that someone would do an updated MoMII. My favorite was to start on the 'other world' with halflings. Alchemist, warlord, light, green, and chaos. Halfling slingers with adamantium slingbolts that buffed up with enchantments are brutal. I had NO idea there's an expansion! A remake?!? Holy Forking Shirt Ball!
Interesting. Never played MoM, but I've heard it basically inspired Age of Wonders, which is up there as one of my favorite 4x series. I'm curious if anybody knows, but was this team also responsible for Warlock: Master of the Arcane, and Warlock II The Exiled? At least one of the leader options, Rjak, shows up in the Warlock series... ...did some research, found out that Warlock team loved to make references to their favorite fantasy games and settings. So yes, Rjak does appear in the Warlock games, as a "mysterious dimension hopping mage". Implying that Rjak traveled across realities to end up in Warlock. Fun reference just done as a homage! They also directly reference Lina Inverse, by having a character that you can recruit who is wearing Lina's clothes but has blonde hair and the last name "Gabriev" - implying Lina and Gourry eventually married and had children.
This game is so old, I remember the game box had a yellow sticker on it; "Warning, this game requires 28mb of hard drive space for installation". Such a space hog that they felt the need to head off angry complaints. IIRC my hard drive at the time was 120mb, so it was a chunk of space.
Archers might be weak, but Draconian archers... they're flying ranged units. That changes things a bit, especially against most early-game basic units. If I recall right, archers did have limited ammo, so yes, a heavily armored unit can just tank archers until they run out. And against players, they have some spells that can counter this tactic. But against many neutrals, this could probably be a viable tactic. Even if they have some anti-air, focus firing that can leave all the other units vulnerable. Though it would be boring to watch.
Not a remake per say, as in it's not a remaster,(which the one Quill is playing sort of is) but there is a new master of magic actually coming this year. It's got the same core mechanics by the looks of it. Spells, monsters and towns look like they work the same. Just google it, it's even got the same skills/research/mana power point thing going on. And looks to really want to capture the magic of this game with new graphics and quality of life stuff, with a few adjustments. (Switching from a square map to a hex map, for example)
@@deathhimself1653 Omg that is amazing! I hadn't seen that on Steam before, and didn't know the old games existed there either. This will be a certain purchase once released! Thanks for the heads up!
"Now obviously you might tell from the visuals it's a little bit dated" What do you mean? Oh, right! That "Quit To DOS" part at the bottom of the screen...
The raise volcano is not a spell that should be overlooked, it generates 1 power, and can make you a lot of power over time, the armageddon spell chaos can get creates volcanos every turn and makes your mana grow extremely quickly.
I don't know if they kept it with the recent updates to the game, but interesting fact about the flag selection is that in the original game the player and the ai took their turns in the order of the flags from top to bottom.
Wow, the community patch has so many fixes/changes included since 1.31, you can make a book with them. I played this a lot back in the day but had too many game crashing bugs.
Personally one of the things I loved about MoM was just torturing the AI. First time I played Caster of Magic I got curb-stomped - it's good, but how fun it is depends what you want out... Sometimes you just want to chill and see how many nasty enchantments you can pile on the enemy cities.
I've never played this game. But it reminds me a lot of Age of Wonders, especially AoW I and II. Casting points, source nodes, the available races and special abilities, even the naming of the city development ranks etc. It looks to me as if they copied almost as much from MoM as Blizzard did from WH40K for StarCraft
I love the IDEA of Master of Magic - But it is just so terribly balanced that playing it now just feels wrong. Edit: Is it just me or does only one musical track play? The game has so much more music than this... really generic medieval castle fanfare one.
It plays music depending on how you're doing compared to other wizards There are 3 themes. One for when you're "winning" one for "losing" and one for "middle of the pack"
Why a second episode 1? Explanation here: ruclips.net/video/JCTB7JKqQ6k/видео.html

Oh no I have to watch several Master of Magic episodes all in one shot. The horror, the tragedy. *binges*
A terrible fate indeed. What next shall fate in all its malicious whims bring to us? Dare I say it? Why, it might be even more quality content.
The peek behind the curtain in that other video, showing bunches of upcoming episodes, makes me very happy
Okay, FIVE Gold veins within a single screen?
A quarter century of playing MoM and I've never seen this much Gold start!
I love this game so much
Master of Magic is one of my favorite games of all time. I used to play it when I was a teenager at a friends place. The many different magic items, heroes and abilities always gave me a sense of wonder and discovery which are still my favorite part of games.
They are reworking it right now. It is on steam as Coming soon.

Nostalgia overload! I logged so many hours into this back in the 90s. Looking forward to the remake, but now I really want to play the original again!
This is still one of my favourite games of all time, so happy to binge this
Kali gives me major Rita Repulsa vibes and I love it!
A series so nice, we started it twice!
At least this time your episode 1 covered combat as well. I'm looking forward to your first hero and... dare we hope... item crafting?
Absolutely loved this game! I saw your newest part posted today and had to start from Ep. 1! Glad you're playing this
Ah,, sweet memories, such a great game. Very glad to see a MoM series!
i didnt know how much i missed this game until i watched this video. DAMN YOU QUILL18!
Alchemy, artificer, life - that's what I remember focusing when I was ikkle. I did like sorcery too for the armour negation. Ah, youth.

I will never recover from having to watch more MoM. Scarred for life.
The horror... the horror

You know it's old when it says "quit to DOS" as the exit button.
Make sure to watch this in 240p for the authentic experience.
The Caster of Magic Warlord mod is epic, you should totally look into a Let's Play using it.
I remember playing that game back in the day. Strange that it never got a remake...
spent so much time with this. watching either step dad play it or myself
Nice! Finally some more exposure for Caster of magic mod!
Shout out to ruclips.net/user/SeravySensei the main (single?) developer behind the Caster Of Magic expansion/mod!

Omg I loved this game. I still think about it from time to time even though I haven't played it for 25+ years. I hope they'll make a remake of this.

My favorite game in my youth!
"Now obviously you might tell from the visuals it's a little bit dated"

Ayyy now there’s a timeless classic :]
Glad this was suggested. Enjoying it so far. Did you know they are reworking it? It is on steam right now as coming soon.
The game Diety Empires is a clear spiritual successor to this game, but not all DOS-y. Would highly recommend.
Again, love the concept of this. Like a fusion of Civ and Dominions, looks really interesting.
Too bad about that isolated gold-hill. Guess you'll just have to wait until you can park a Supply-Crawler there. Oh wait, wrong game :)
A remake would be amazing! This game rocked!!!
The raise volcano is not a spell that should be overlooked, it generates 1 power, and can make you a lot of power over time, the armageddon spell chaos can get creates volcanos every turn and makes your mana grow extremely quickly.
great video . I am looking forward to the new one although Deity empires looks good too.

Shrines are good because Shamans are decent early magic ranged troops.
Never heard of this one but wow i see a lot of parallels to modern 4X games.

I played this a lot back in the day but had too many game crashing bugs.
A Nature/Chaos-Build is perfect für terraforming.
Good episode. I preferred the previous start though. Looked real exciting, but is cool too.
Reminds me of the early Age of Wonders games
Oh, a different mic..
Were the settings still being tuned as of this video? Sounds like the treble is turned down on my speakers (bit muffled).

Pretty sure special resources are just more abundant on Myrror. Besides there occurring different ones, of course.
Incorrect. The mana nodes are also stronger, will give more.
@@JamesMichaelDoyle I didnt imply they weren't, but okay
The remake did come out! Will you do a playthrough on that?
No quill?!? Why you do this! I have no time to watch this... (but I will)
11:45 ... Nope. Should have chosen Gargoyles. Next to trolls, they're the most OP unit in the game.
I've never played this game. But it reminds me a lot of Age of Wonders, especially AoW I and II.

Lol. Life wizards get a noble pigeon.
Well I wanted Moar.. :D
Dos is good, or was it Das?
BOTH
Why no dedicated playlist, dude? 😢
Hmmm, interesting ...
why not play Caster of Magic for Windows which a better remake of this game?
I'm so disappointed now you had such a good start with the other one
nomnomnomnom😃
the Original is the best one, in my opinion caster of magic looks and feels weird to me
I love the IDEA of Master of Magic - But it is just so terribly balanced that playing it now just feels wrong.

Either way it made the series impossible to watch not long in.
