Some things i've noticed; 1. Settlers can only work on 6 melons at a time meaning thats 3 units of food, not the other way around. 2. There are 9 melons by default at the abernathy farm. 3. With a nice suit, hat and glasses you can get your charisma up to 10 and make 5 caps per sell off Muttfruit. Muttfruit produces 1 food per plant meaning you do get 6 units of food per settler unlike melons. Muttfruit will sell for about 4-5 caps per fruit and early game there are tons of things you need for barter like, ammo, meds and junk. Im on survival mode and all of the settlements in the top left of the map produce excess water/muttfruit and with just 5 or 6 settlements im comming out with 200 or so muttfruit and 100+ purified water.
Settlers work on 6 units of food, but melons are 0.5 each. Therefore 12. Melons per settler. The downside to mutfruit and selling water is relying on vendors' limited cap stock and having to wait 48hrs for them to restock, then having to travel all around looking for said vendors. and having to rely on stuff to get your charisma up. They are still really good ways of making caps, but melons are the easiest option since she has an infinite amount of caps as long as you bring melons. No need for charisma .
@@fallout4myth940 I play on survival, the charisma gear and mentats are obtainable in the first hour and you have to travel to each settlement, meaning theres plenty of respawn time. Odd my settlers will only work on 6 units of plants meaning 3 food from everything but mutfruit.
But with melons you don't have to get anything at all, and there's only one place to go. That's my point :) unlimited caps as long as you bring in the melons. Try planting 12 melons. One settler should work them all because like I said, they count for 0.5 food, not 1 unit.
@@fallout4myth940 I say one unit because one melon counts as one unit, settlers will only work on 6 plants, meaning melons only produce 3 food, whereas mutfruit produces 6 per settler. One pound of melon sells for 5 caps but one pound of mutfruit can sell for 40-50 caps, and considering you can literally make vendors in your setlement, saying that vendors are rare really isnt an argument. Please do not think I don appreciate the discorse, i look forward to your reply.
Again, if a crop produces 0.5 food units, they can work 12 crops = 12 melons. Each mutfruit produce 1 food unit, so they work 6 of those crops. I showed it on the video that each settler works 12 melon crops. You can even Google it and you'll get the same answer :)
Nice video! I already claimed Abernathy farm, so I’ll have to take the 3 caps per melon. I don’t mind because I already have 20+ industrial water purifiers in Sanctuary. I’m doing a science build and am looking to have lots of robot workers because I don’t think they need food or water.
To transport the melons to abanathy farm collect as many melons as you can drop them and rather then tell your companion to pick it up click on your companion them click on the melons you dropped thay will just pick them up it works for anything when you and your companion are over weight then fast travel to abanathy farm
Lucy was the first person I started to milk for caps. I love the melon farm idea but I'd no idea about those percentages. Those numbers are clutch!! 💡 😍
@@fallout4myth940 I find all these cool information and half of it I cant do… do you know the Tato numbers? Cause I can get 18 cap each with grape mentats

Trader: That will be 2000 caps
Me: Do you accept *melons?*
I discovered that after you build Mama Murphys chair, if you use the bell to get her to get up, you can store it then she’ll perform tasks again 👍

I'm afraid if you claimed abernathy farm then you cannot do the melon farm :(
@@fallout4myth940 As in, you can’t sell to Lucy? Doesn’t she give the dialogue still?
@zacherybutter7349 as i said early in the video, once settlement is claimed, she'll stop buying melons :(

I actually went over this trick on my fusion cell farm video. Great carry weight exploit!

Imo it's the easiest farm to set up, but it's unfortunate Lucy stops buying after you claim the settlement :(

never realized the cement column could be used like that
This trick is game-changing and makes settlement building a whole lot convenient!
Any of the columns can be. The warehouse and barn columns too. You can also use rugs and stairs.
Groupings the melon is good but how do you deal with the damaged one
Simple. You put another one on top! 🤣
@@fallout4myth940 brilliant !!
I made a whole farm of melons at Abernathy farm and then saw this video:(
:(
Great idea man, really good audio too.
Thanks man. Glad you are still around!
@fallout4myth940 had a game crash and rebuilding. Good to see your place hasn't slowed.
thx dude but remember the melon which grown can be placed with a collum if there is no near melons or it will get all the melons which can be harder
Yes when doing the column glitch you gotta watch for other objects collision boxes so they don't accidentally get selected
