Germany got their mouths smashed in during the first quarter, but the ability to adjust by both the coaches and the players is unmatched in recent years. They make the right reads, they ramp up defensive intensity aswell, and especially their defense is one of the most overlooked aspects of their success. Everybody talks about the sexy free flowing offense, but it is often on defense where they set the base of their success against stronger opponents.
I am extremely interested to see how France tries to counter them in the second game, and if Germany can make it to the finals, how much of a problem they will present to the US team, if they can handle Serbia. Tbh I would love to see Germany vs Serbia rematch but sadly that chance is very slim right now, but one can still hope :)

Obviously there are weaknesses in every team in the Greek team they were more obvious; The German team is more clear about what they will do inside the pitch and they have a proven recipe. In very simple terms what is common in all Germany games is that their offence will either shoot from the 3 point or under the basket nothing in between and they make more attacks than their opponents do because of the loose ball/transition game so even on an average stats day they still have an edge.

I'm glad you praised Batum for his work in the shadows, and our Euroleague players for their domination. Lessort and Yabusele made me shout in front of the TV, they rendered the Canadian helpless. They made Dillon Brooks suffer and become humble, and if you've watched Canada's games in France, you know how much it mattered to the French crowd! Cordinier was a great surprise, I would never have expected him to do that much! Fournier's three pointer made me jump and shout out of joy, it was a Dame Lillard type of shot!
Also, congratulations to you to clearly state that refereeing was not an issue. Some North Americans, not knowing any Euroleague players, thought it had to be because of the refs because otherwise three players they've never heard of could not beat NBA players (even though those NBA players are Powell and Birch! He also bullied him in the NBA once by moving him out of the way and dunking on him. Mo Wagner was also the guy that defended Giannis and Wemby the best since he´s Germany´s strongest guy. Alexandros Samodurov is also considered a prospect but I don't see any development in his game. Hopefully he gets stronger and more playing time in a smaller team.
However, there are players who already deserve a shot at the national team, such as Omiros Netzipoglou (21 years old, named the best young player of the 2021/2022 season). He is a shooting guard with better talent than someone like Larentzakis, for example. I was surprised that he wasn't even invited to the pre-selection. Instead, players like Moraitis and Lountzis were invited who even though they are good players, they had little almost no playing time throughout the year with their respective teams.

Great points guys about Giannis's defence. I was in Lille on Friday (vs Australia) and I can tell you this is not the same player defensively as Giannis from 2020-22. He finished the game with 0 defensive rebounds (and 2 offensive rebounds). These are numbers that are unheard of for Giannis. In addition to all of the points you raised, I think it's also a combination of (1) he's not 100% ready physically right now (we have to remember he is coming back from a serious injury that kept him out for 3 months), and (2) I wonder if, physically speaking, this is just part of a downwards trend from the incredible heights he reached; Giannis is 29, with a few serious injuries now behind me, and his knees in particular might be constraining him

Giannis had 3 personals before the end of the first half. Could not play rough in defense for most of the game even if he tried.
Serbia had 3 heroes: Bogdanovic when chipping away the difference, Misic at the end. Jokic almost lost them the game at the end: 3-4 missed shots in less than two minutes, his ball was stolen. Redeemed in ovetime with his last shot, a block and 2 deflections.

True, Thanasis and Rogavopoulos are better than NBA players like Hartenstein and Kleber (who weren't included due to inner disputes within the German team). I don't wanna hear BS that they couldn't make the difference since they weren't starters in NBA because all the players Greece was missing (even Sloukas, who had a great season with his club) aren't NBA caliber either.

It can either be dorsey or walkup because even though dorsey's mum is Greek dorsey is considered naturalized the same as walkup. So there is the dilemma.. better shooting or better defence and ball movement? And i dont even know if dorsey wants to pe part of the team..he seems uninterested to me.

Greece u18 eurobasket roster is good. At the u20 we did well and got 3rd. Next generation is good. We have Zougris who could be the next Kyle Hines. There are good guards at least on the level of toliopoulos. There is kostas antetokoumpo who will be a good backup big definitely more active than the flop that is papagiannis. Dorsey will be a great replacement for walkup. We are a top 8 European team. Nothing more.

Dennis is quite a unicorn in what he brings to the table, but german U18 just recently won the Eurobasket and I am sure that some of those guys could be a good fit in the future. Some of them were refined and got a bit more skilled with the collegiate system but they all got their high basketball iq, defensive skills, moves, etc. when being trained in their home country. Luka was already a superstar in Madrid. Franz already played for the senior team with ALBA. Jokić the same and only Giannis was a very raw player coming into the league.

In regards to Moritz Wagner tweet and the general conversation about "energy", "behavior" etc: I am surprised 3 Lithuanians find nothing wrong on provocative trash talking attitude. I have rarely seen in my life (35 years of playing, watching, coaching basketball) a player raised and coached in a former Soviet (or a basketball affiliated) country behave like a douchebag. For sure, the NBA has a huge responsibility enhancing those kind of behaviors, as the US consider basketball more of a product and less as a sport. Giannis did that too, for a few years, but now has returned as humble as in 10 years ago. It's all about principles, sportsmanship and respect to the opponent. You should agree that historically the Germans, in particular, are not actually famous for their respectfulness towards ...the rest of the world.

Go outside and touch some grass 😂. Germans are very friendly and respectful towards foreigners… the nazis ruled for 13 years, their history is much longer.
Trash talk is a way to motivate and fire up yourself and your teammates. Mo uses this perfectly to generate energy for the team and gets into his opponents head. Also Mo never says something disrespectful or offensive he’s just talking all the time about random stuff like daily life, weather, food, the city or which restaurant is good 😂This sport is not only physical but also mentally very demanding.
Giannis does the exact same thing with trash talk and stare downs till this day, watch some Bucks games
