Indeed Gareth, it was unusual trying to use an axe head to get a spark though As you can see, initially I had the angle wrong so the sparks were not hitting the birch bark I couldn't see as the axe head was in the way but wanted to test it as a one tool item, it's very well balanced too! Take care Ruairi
Thanks I'm very pleased with it, will probably stick to using my knife with the ferro rod though not used an axe head for that before! Thanks for watching buddy hope you have an awesome weekend! 👍 Take care Roo
I just purchased my SCAXE2 today, so haven't used it yet. I love the feel of it in my hand, not too light, not too heavy, going to be a good camp axe. I had trouble getting Fero rod to spark until i cleaned the paint off of it, then worked well. The Fero rod is nice and big, it's not flimsy. I don't like the plastic sheath much, but it does work well. Thanks from Kentucky, USA :) Also, i subbed :)
As it's a gift I don't know what the price was but the tool itself feels great and looks well made on first impressions, having the ferro rod is a nice addition but I'd probably use a knife spine as a striker rather than the axe head as I couldn't see with the first couple of pulls where the sparks were going but that's user error 😉 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment buddy hope you have a great weekend! Take care Roo
Yeah it's a nice thought and an awesome bit of kit I really like it, but I clearly need more practice using an axe head as a striker 😁 Thanks for watching buddy hope you have a great weekend! Take care Roo
Hi Nathan it's a well designed camping axe, even though the handle is fibreglass its very ergonomic Hope you have a great weekend buddy and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Take care Roo

Prepared Camping thanks the hard part is hiking up all the hills to get the photos lol I had a lot of ideas for the server then got sidetracked just been busy tbh but il try to get on it this weekend and get the ball rolling 👍
Nice use of a chicken stick. Sure saves your fingers. A lot better present than the underwear and wallet I got. Thank you for showing the SCAX to us, Roo
Thank you Nigel, was odd using a ferro rod on an axe head and I didn't get the right angle at first but it's a great little tool Hope you have an awesome weekend sir Take care Roo
Great review Roo and what a decent present! Up here the Husqvarna is a little bit cheaper and slightly lower weight. I'd have a knife anyhow for the ferro rod
Hi Huples thanks for watching mate first impressions it's a sturdy little axe that's very well balanced, as you can see I've not used an axe head for a ferro rod before and got it lined up all wrong it felt a bit odd and I couldn't see where the sparks were going initially as the blade head shielded my view! But you live and learn, like you say I'd probably stick to a regular striker or spine of a knife so I could see what's happening easier, hope you're well over there in Canada Take care Roo
Prepared Camping only 7-8” as I’m in Virginia and the mountains keep a lot of it away...some winters we don’t have any snow. We do get a lot a freezing rain here and that’s always fun lol not really 😉
Don't need to win the lottery like that couple in Ireland to know how lucky I am mate, thanks for taking the time to post positive feedback 👍 Take care mate Roo
First impressions is it's a solid little hatchet I'll probably use the ferro rod with my knife rather than the axe head though! Have you made a replacement head cover? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment buddy hope you have an awesome weekend! 👍 Take care Roo

You have to scrape the coating off every ferro rod before use bud. But seeing as this comment was 3 years ago Im guessing you already know this now!
Thank You Simon H I figured it out 😎👍🏻
Looks a really good bit of kit, handy fero rod too, thanks for sharing, all the best 👍
