I’ll never forget the horror on my face as I whiteness my little army of Purple Pikmin get shot down one by one by the Man at Legs. I saw each of them trip and die, it’s engraved into my mind. I felt like I was in a horror movie playing this level. There’s no way to describe this guy, you can only experience it

One of the actual reasons this became so popular suddenly (at least my reason for clicking this) is that the channel Stephenplays is doing an LP of Pikmin 2 blind. And they're currently having a lot of "fun" in the submerged castle. It made me familiar with the place and probably reminded people who played this before of its existence. That mixed in with the somewhat funny text you've placed all over have made this video popular.

OP, you perfectly captured my experience: having to hold down the fort long enough to haul treasure while being mercilessly hunted is the peak experience. I love how you admitted that it gave you chills despite knowing and spoiling everything about it in the game. It's simply an experience that cannot merely be watched. You have to SEE IT.
Two useful tips that make encountering the water wraith a breeze. 1. It will chase the leading captain 2. It won't attack you if you're in a tight corner. Split your captains across the map (one in a safe corner with most of your pikmin). Switch captains to manipulate the wraith as your pikmin carry back treasure. Use these to your ability because this makes I'm the submerged castle much easier.
Little advice: get one leader to stand near the hole and collect everything as fast as you can. Don't bring 100 blues or else you'll get less bulbmin, and trust me, bulbmin are VERY important. Unless you need to, don't use the ivory candypop bud. Bulbmin already are immune to poison. Throw the bulbmin into the purple buds at the bottom and only use the purples. Throw, whistle, repeat. EDIT: Forgot two things. If the waterwraith gets close, throw your pikmin to high ground. Also, I didn't come up with all this, someone else did. I don't remember their channel name but they managed to no death submerged castle, so clearly they know some good crap.

The Water Wraith spawns in after five minutes has passed upon entering the sublevel. Thankfully in my most recent playthrough I was fast enough to collect all of the treasures before this guy shows up.
Honestly as I was redoing this level to get the treasure I left behind I just kinda watched as the water wraith ran around after I destroyed his rollers. Just soaking in the fear he was experiencing, but I spared him that time because I realized that he was experiencing the same feeling as I did all those years ago when I first went into there and frankly I felt sorry for him
It's been twenty years. Twenty years. To this day, the entirety of the "Pikmin II" Waterwraith's saga is in my mind. It was pure Hitchcock suspense: heart racing, anxiety, constantly running... I was prey, pursued by the ultimate Yabba Dabba Do hunter. There were no jump scares or body horror. It was simply using your emotions and the feeling of being hunted. I still remember the simultaneous death cry of half my Pikmin being run over by his Fred Flintstone Car. I lost a LOT of Bulbmin to that, too. Twenty years later, it is STILL engraved in my mind. I was recounting it, in perfect detail, to my grandmother a few days ago. She asked me how I could recall it with such clarity. I asked her if she remembered any Hitchcock film she watched. She said yes, she knew EXACTLY what I felt when facing down the Waterwraith, but she couldn't recount the gruesome details of being on the edge of her seat. I could. I always will. * *SPOILERS BELOW* * -but the karma... oh, the beautiful karma of watching the Waterwraith run around like an obese, headless chicken was worth all the heart racing. I drew it out, making him suffer. Just taking my time to watch him cry and squirm. I loved the Purple Pikmin making him cry.
Played through Pikmin 2 again recently and got all the way to the last floor without the Water Wraith spawning. I don't think I have ever been more scared than those 15 minutes

When I went to the watery hell my heart was pumping a lot because when i was 5 i went in there and saw mr bubble man on his stone bike and he crushed all my pikmin but i came back when i was 12 Im 12 right now
