No no, the German and French one are likely canonical.
German immigrants would often settle in Texas, and about 10,000 texans speak German as a first language.
And of course there are the Louisiana French.
I believe the French version is a historical Louisiana song, while the German one seems to be a modern cover of Dixie in German
Approximately 500,000 based Germans and German-Americans served in the Union though.
the ironic thing is, the texas germans were known for their pro-union stance during the civil war, infact, confederates confronted and killed several pro-union germans at Hill County, this was known as the Nueces massacre.
German is the most common claimed ancestry in America. There were even Prussian units fighting for the union from Indiana.
And the name Dixie may have cam from the French ten dollar in New Orleans labeled Dix (French for ten) which got the name Dixie, and same with the Irish
7:00 “William was a gay deceiver”
William’s got some explaining to do
A gay deciever in this song meant one who looks harmless and simple but comes out as a fierce patriot
@@shieldclubrydawg1614 OH. Thank you for that. I knew that ‘gay’ use to mean ‘happy’ or ‘joyful.’ But I hadn’t thought about ‘gay’ meaning ‘weak’ or ‘harmless’
@@shieldclubrydawg1614Ah yeah Irish English and British English are strange at times
@@shieldclubrydawg1614 No it doesnt. Remember Dixie wasnt written as a song for any government or war but rather a minstrel show routine. Its sung by a slave recalling "great times gone by" down south. Gay Deceiver at the time and in the context of the song basically means "happy and charming fuckboy" today. She married him and loved him and he spurned her (as shown in the next verse "Ol Missus acted the foolish part; she died for a man who broke her heart".

@@MrRAGE-md5rj We shouldn't have pride in that part of our history, what we should have pride in is the rebuilding, that we have come back from those days stronger than before, not in a past mired with failure but a future flooding with success, we have been known as a backwater for so long the south will rise again not in arms but in industry and we will show them that we ain't a stupid backwater folk but a people of hard workers who have built cities as great as the ones of the north, a people who have cast off the ideas of racial superiority as we're all southerners here, a people who may finally take pride not in some mythologized past that lasted 4 years but in what we have done now and will do in the future.

Lincoln's Presidential Proclamation NO. 81, April 19 1861, just five days after the evacuation of Ft Sumter. (Edited Version)
"Whereas an insurrection against the Government of the United States has broken out -in the States of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, and the laws of the United States- for the *COLLECTION OF THE REVENUE (TAX MONEY)* can not be effectually executed therein comformably to that provision of the Constitution which requires *DUTIES (REVENUE TAX MONEY)* to be uniform throughout the United States:...
*NOTE:* President Abraham Lincoln blames the "insurrection" on the collection of REVENUE TAX MONEY. Not on States Rights, politics, slavery or any other reason. In none of these documents does the Union Executive or Legislature refer to the secession of States as unconstitutional or illegal! Lincoln KNOWS that secession IS A RIGHT but because of REVENUE TAX MONEY, he refuses to allow the South to secede peacefully.
Lincoln's Presidential Proclamation NO. 82, April 27 1861, a week after the previous Proclamation as more States seceded from the Union.
"Whereas for the reasons assigned in my Proclamation of the 19th instance., a blockade of the ports of the States of South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, was ordered to be established, and whereas, since that date, public property of the United States has been seized, *THE COLLECTION OF THE REVENUE (TAX MONEY) OBSTRUCTED,* and duly commissioned officers of the United States, while engaged in executing the orders of their superiors have been arrested and held in custody as prisoners, or have been impeded in the discharge of their official duties, without due legal process, by persons claiming to act under authority of the States of Virginia and North Carolina. An efficient blockade of the ports of those States will therefore also be established. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

@thestasi2646 Let me break it down for you!
Presidential Proclamation 81: Lincoln claims the "insurrection" is due to the Union trying for "collection of revenue tax money"!
Presidential Proclamation 82: The Southern States are seceding, and "the collection of the revenue tax money" is obstructed.
The House of Representatives agrees with Lincoln and says they only want the re-collection of the revenue tax money and all "hostilities" (Union invasion) should cease once that happens (the Union gets the revenue tax money from States that legally left the Union and are no longer legally obligated to give up any revenue to the Union government).
The short version of these THREE FEDERAL DOCUMENTS is "We want money, and the South will get WAR if we don't get the money we used to get before secession!"
The Confederate States of America (1861-1865) started with an agrarian-based economy that relied heavily on slave-worked plantations for the production of cotton for export to Europe. *IF CLASSED AS AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY,* the area of the Confederate States would have ranked as the *FOURTH-RICHEST COUNTRY OF THE WORLD IN 1860."* (Wikipedia: Economy of the Confederate States of America).
