You covered it well. Live in Texas, you need a generator, especially during Hurricane season. It will run your Refrigerators, and freezer, and fans. Also have enough left over for the Ham radios since your cellphone usually doesn't work for a week or two since everyone across the country are using them. Your area can only handle so many calls. Also need it in case of a disaster, you need to be able to secure your house to protect your guns in bad times.

I have had my Champion for over 3 years living off grid and no complaints with it ,,,,still using it daily for a range of operations here on the ranch . So I give them a thumbs up !!
I like that you qualify your comment with "As a small engine mechanic that serviced/repaired many generators..." and then say something completely uninformed and one-sided. I have nothing against Honda and believe their generators are top notch, but there are many alternatives out there (including the Champion in this video), that perform just as reliably for significantly less money. I have both a 9,000 watt and a 3,500 watt (invertor) Predator from Harbor Freight and they operate just as well as any Honda at a third the price! My 9K does most of my house during the day and the 3.5K does the computers and runs at night to keep things quiet. I live in the northeast on an old power grid and lose my power often. Both units have well over 1000 hours on them in the past three years and NO issues. Change the oil and spark plug as directed, clean the units (and the spark arrestors), and maintenance run them monthly during the summer and weekly during the winter (though they often don't get maintenance runs as they are actually running to provide power!). Oh, and I run ethanol gas (with Stal-bil) and I don't drain the tanks/carbs!!! And if/when the ethanol finally destroys the carbs, the rebuild kit is twenty bucks! Thanks for your humble opinion - I'll stick with my Predators!
@@donabele1243 Back in the early 80's I was a certified auto mechanic and I'll never forget this time an old man came in to the dealership for something, I can't remember what for, but I do remember he had a slant 6 Chrysler engine and I looked at the odometer and he had almost half a million miles on it. I asked him how many time he rebuilt that engine and he said I never touched it, other then starters, alternators, water pumps and P/S. I said you're kidding, what kind of oil do you run, and he said the the cheapest crap I can get my hands on or what's on sale, BUT I change it as soon as it starts to get dark or looks dirty, and some times that's at a 1,000 miles, and some times it's closer to 3,000 miles but NEVER over 3,000 miles ever. He said I started the engine up, and let it warm up for a couple minutes BEFORE I ever moved it, and I let it run a couple minutes to let it cool down before shutting it off, and that's it. He said he NEVER put a cold engine under a load, and never shut a hot engine down without letting it cool off, and change that oil and filter, cause they are cheaper than a rebuild. I think 99% of these things come down to maintenance much more than the name. I'm not knocking Honda at all, and they are right up there with being top shelf, but for the"AVERAGE" guy who needs a gen set for the rare short term emergency, and not for his livelihood, I think some thing like this Champion is fine.
Buy the Honda, cry once. That is just one man's opinion. I'd own this generator...nice option for the propane. If it can run on propane you shoul dbe able to modify it to run on Natural Gas. I own the Honda 2000 inverter Generator. It's been great. I do not store gasoline in the generator, As I don't use it often. I also run the carb until it's empty.

I bought this model because of the dual fuel feature and it seems to be much louder than my Honda. I'm looking for a shed design or some other way to quiet it down, then it will probably be my go-to.
Be careful with that grounding. If power being draw out of outlets on the generator than not too worry but if this generator install as a permanently attach to the house than have to switch the neutral wire if the generator have a bonding jumper to ground other word if it’s a separate derive system. If there’s no internal bonding to the ground on the generator than don’t have to switch the neutral when switching over to generator power.
Run recreational fuel and save yourself a lot of hassle. Also keep extra oil handy because it is recommended to change every 48hrs. Oil and recreational fuel will keep those small engines running great.
to power electronics like computers and tv's is it better recommended to use a inverted generator like this one, or can any generator work fine without risk of damaging the electronics?
*** it would cause death if you were to run it in a closed space on either gasoline or propane*** Running on propane will also be CO & CO^2. Your still burning hydrocarbons, they just have a smaller chain (3 vs 8; prop vs oct). I am assuming you'd be using the non-ethanol version. I would think as far as byproducts, propane would have a bit less though. Should burn a lot cleaner as the only other thing they probably put in it is the thiol for smell detection. But that's probably in the low ppm or ppb. Again, it would cause death if you were to run it in a closed space on either gasoline or propane.
yes, open frame is much louder! Modified sine wave generators should not be used for motorized appliances like air conditioners & refrigerators. It's OK for resistive loads like heaters and lights.
Wow... Bye bye beardie!! Hey man, great video, totally relevant to what's going on right now. Looks like a great little generator to have on hand. Thanks for sharing!
I always use Seafoam when I fill up my small engines. I've been doing this for years with no issue. It's a fuel stabilizer and carb cleaner. Just my $0.02
I always put in about double what the Stabil label says. Over 5 years ago I had to use my generator and just after I dumped in a bunch of gas the power came back on. I run mine for about 30 min maybe 3-4 times a year just to splash the oil around. I always turn off the gas and let it run until it dies. It always starts and runs fine. I’ll probably run the tank dry next year.
The advantage of propane is that it doesn't go bad like gasoline does. With this generator keeping a few tanks of propane on hand is a much better idea than trying to do long-term storage of gasoline (which is a real pain and you *might* get one year out of gasoline).
Man, I always appreciate your videos and have been watching for quite a while now. But for reviewing a generator, I feel the need to mention the co2 hazard. A family of 5 passed away recently from running a generator to close to an open window after Hurricane Laura hit.
Mr. GnG, have you considered diesel fueled generators ? If I were king MOGAS would be outlawed for POVs and diesel powered motors would be the law of the land, IMO. FWIW.
The diagram you have for modified vs pure sine wave is incorrect. The standard generator, due to the design of the actual generator, makes a pure alternating current (AC) sine wave. It is true that the frequency can vary with the engine speed and the voltage can vary with the loading. Inverter generators make direct current (DC) and then use an inverter to turn that into AC. The quality of the inverter will determine how smooth the AC is. It can be the modified / choppy AC or it can be a very smooth / pure sine wave, The quality of the inverter will also determine the accuracy of the frequency and voltage regulation.
This is double that price but I just bought the last refurbished off ebay for $510. I noticed generators this size wont run a worm drive saw under a heavy load. How do you like the one you did get?
I like it. But I don't think it would be big enough for a job site. More for emergency back up, I would suppose. Don't think it's as nice as the one you bought.
I have a smaller/lighter/quieter 1600/2000 watt Champion Inverter generator. I think they are pretty decent. Doubt Honda is worth 2X the price even though the quality may be marginally better.
I’ve used ethanol gas in my generators before, but when I was done I drained the tank and carb and ran some true fuel and sea foam in it until it ran out of gas. Just buy ethanol free gas, run them every few months and you’ll be fine.

How long can your generator run on a 20lb propane tank. What is the wattage of your gen.
@@robotbuster1487 mine is the 3400Watt version. I don't know how long it will run under a maximum load. I've run it several times for about an hour each time with maybe a half load and my 20lb tank I started with is maybe half empty.
Please watch this video about generator safety ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html everyone really needs to watch this video. I’m just trying to be nice and hoping that people stay safe using generators. Thank you so much
Natural gas all day.
Sweet another gear review 👍
As a small engine mechanic that serviced/repaired many generators, MHO is that champion generators are cheap crap. Get a Honda.
Does Honda make duel fuel gens?
Does it take Glock magazines, can it be hip fired...uups wrong channel:)
I bought a westinghouse 7500 watts for $675. its really nice remote start it will run the whole house less an oven and dryer i love it ! if ya need to save some money go to harbor freight they have some great deals also !
Raymond J I looked at the Harbor Freight generators but am not sure I trust their reliability for something I need in an emergency.
@@twc9000 I HAD ONE FOR YEARS AND IT ALWAYS RAN GREAT THEY JUST COPIED THE HONDA ENGINE THEY START RITE UP EVERY TIME . THATS THE CHINESE SPECIALITY IS EXSACT COPYS LOL
Everyone really needs to watch this video about generator safety ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html I’m just trying to be nice. Thank you
@@tonisam962 even a new user knows this stuff this channel is for advanced people we work on them and most of us are mechanically inclined but thanks anyway .
Good survival gear if you've got a source of gasoline
What’s your thoughts on DB level? It seems loud but hard to tell in a video.
I bought this model because of the dual fuel feature and it seems to be much louder than my Honda. I'm looking for a shed design or some other way to quiet it down, then it will probably be my go-to.
Thanx Mike. Living in the South this is pretty much a critical piece of gear...
Thanks dude.
Run recreational fuel and save yourself a lot of hassle. Also keep extra oil handy because it is recommended to change every 48hrs. Oil and recreational fuel will keep those small engines running great.
Every 48 hrs!?!? Is that a joke??
to power electronics like computers and tv's is it better recommended to use a inverted generator like this one, or can any generator work fine without risk of damaging the electronics?
Question: What is the exhaust like when running propane?
At 6:00 he means 30 amp... And always use stabil in your fuel it keeps it from going bad !
yes, open frame is much louder! Modified sine wave generators should not be used for motorized appliances like air conditioners & refrigerators. It's OK for resistive loads like heaters and lights.
Is this an assault style generator? Is it fully or semi-automatic watt producing? Does it run on high-capacity propane tanks?
No, but Mike's has the shoulder thing that goes up.
Another term to use could be "HPG" Hours Per Gallon...
Wow... Bye bye beardie!! Hey man, great video, totally relevant to what's going on right now. Looks like a great little generator to have on hand. Thanks for sharing!
6:00 I think you meant 30 amps, not 30 watts. 30 watts isn't enough power to operate most small TVs.
Have you ever checked out the Romeo5 or Vortex Sparc 2 optics? They’re budget red dots with 40-50k hrs from common AAA batteries.
TheYankeeMarshal will love this review 🤣
👍👍
Would you still use gas stabilizer in this if it's going to be stowed away for a while?
Just do your best to drain the tank and carb before storage. That will solve your problem
Does this generator have an oil filter on the engine? I think I saw one in the video but not sure.
How long can you run a generator until you have to let it rest?
Is it better to get two generators? One running while the other rest...
Man, I always appreciate your videos and have been watching for quite a while now. But for reviewing a generator, I feel the need to mention the co2 hazard. A family of 5 passed away recently from running a generator to close to an open window after Hurricane Laura hit.
Those generators are great for short term power. I prefer a 10k though. Does it come in green??🤪
Does this thing accept a suppressor?
Oss should make one for it
Factory installed. 12:44 It's based on the original Hiram Maxim design.
Interested in the (relative) noise of generators. I have a Duramax that is so damn loud.
Stay safe using your portable generator ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html please watch this video about generator safety
Mr. GnG, have you considered diesel fueled generators ? If I were king MOGAS would be outlawed for POVs and diesel powered motors would be the law of the land, IMO.
FWIW.
Whats your recommended optic for this?
Doesn't your truck have a 120 volt plug in the bed?
Next video, Gas can reviews. New crappy California compliant vs Jerry cans.
Nice. Where is it made?
The one I'm planning on getting!
Same
Did you shave or is this an old video? Where am I? What year is it? Aaaahhh!!!
I just picked up the Durostar DS4000S. ( $350 from Amazon.) Wish I had seen this before I had bought. :-/
I hope you stay safe using your portable generator ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html
I've had my McCulloch 5700 going on 14 years now. After an ice storm where I couldn't see and fell in the garage I'll never be without a generator.
Damn that seems really loud. I wonder how much the Honda equivalent is?
A lot more
I have a smaller/lighter/quieter 1600/2000 watt Champion Inverter generator. I think they are pretty decent. Doubt Honda is worth 2X the price even though the quality may be marginally better.
I have the honda, I love it,,, with that said, I just bought one of these recently.
How many farts can it hold?
Only issue with this generator for home backup is lack of 240 volt output. If you need to run any 240 volt circuit this won't work.
I’ve used ethanol gas in my generators before, but when I was done I drained the tank and carb and ran some true fuel and sea foam in it until it ran out of gas. Just buy ethanol free gas, run them every few months and you’ll be fine.
Co-workers hate these things, of course they are loading and unloading them all the time
😂
