I found it really touching watching you reconnect with your's and your brother's albums. They are really placeholders in time for us. Thank you for sharing this video.
Indeed. I didn't expect to find any of my records there so was surprised to find about 25% of my collection was mixed in with that huge collection. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for stopping by and for commenting. It will take some time to listen to these records. There were also stacks of pop/rock and soundtrack records that I didn't show in the video so there's a lot to get through still. The first thing that needs doing is to clean each record properly before playing them.
Some great records and so interesting to hear about your brother and your musical stories. There's nothing like rediscovering great music after so many years, it was like that for me when my record collection got stashed in a wardrobe for 25 years.
My situation with my collection is similar to yours, where my sister had saved my collection for me when I was in the military. I felt your surprise when you had found your brother had saved some of your collection for you. A great and moving video! Thank you for sharing!
I was so intrigued this morning when I saw an Asian American, like me, talking about vinyl. On RUclips. In the 70’s it seems like so many of us gravitated towards RnB, though I think we embraced all forms of music. Wasn’t unusual to put The Ohio Players funk on right after Led Zeppelin’s rock. Then in the 80’s the albums you showed from your collection. One thing is true, your (our) knowledge from liner notes made the experience that much richer. Thanks for sharing! I’ll be sure to checkout the rest of your channel.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I always enjoy learning about music, album artwork and the artists in the notes or elsewhere. There's a really great channel that covers behind the scenes stuff about musicians and songs. Here's the link. ruclips.net/user/ProfessorofRock @ProfessorofRock
Happy for you, those are the real gems, priceless....for me the best time to collect high-quality Vinyl was in the ninetees...nowadays everything is priced way up and not worth the money at all.
Agreed. The 90s was the best time. People were getting rid of their collections right up till the early 2000s and record shops were shutting down. Luckily I managed to re-build my original collection of records way before vinyl prices went crazy. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Thank for watching. Thank goodness the lps were all stored in an upright position and luckily in places that were dry. There were only about 10 lps that were warped. None of the lps in the vinyl haul had any mold or water damage.
Just subscribed. Congratulations on saving his records and finding some of yours. There's a lot of the same albums on my shelves. I'm very happy for you, thank you for sharing.
Great video, really cool collection including two copies of the hard to find clean, let’s get it on! All those funky little operators, your collection just took a major step up :) cheers
Thanks for stopping by and watching. He was a Marvin Gaye fan for sure.I remember my brother had practically all the Ohio Players, Funkadelic and Al Green lps too. They all might be in a crate stored in another location somewhere.
Your brother is such a cool and generous guy to give you all these albums! He must have spent a small fortune on collecting these vinyls. I wonder what type of HiFi equipment he owns to play these vinyls. I would be interested to know.
Found this quite moving. Thanks for sharing. What an amazing collection of albums and fantastic you were reunited with some of your original record collection.
I love that feeling of seeing crates of albums and getting that excitement in your stomach of maybe finding what you’ve been looking for. It’s the best feeling! Thank you so much for your video. I love when you showed your pile. The first album is The Smiths. My favorite band!! Love it
Brand new to your channel. That was amazing all the albums your brothers had and then you found more of your albums. Some great 80s music. That Alien soundtrack looks quite interesting. It was nice to hear the story behind them. I have had shrink wrap on my albums for over 40 years. It will only warp if it is on extremely tight otherwise I found it helped to protect the album. You have a lot of exploring to do.
Thanks for watching and commenting. There's a huge stack of film soundtrack records which I didn't film for the video. I was just a bit overwhelmed by this whole experience and very tired! Total haul was about 850 records and yes, I was so happy to see some of my vinyl again. Better late than never and thank goodness that all the records had been stored in an upright position in dry conditions and protected in proper plastic sleeves.
Quite some vinyl haul you have there. Not sure much of it is in my wheelhouse but a solid collection. I wonder what was in that 'Let it Be' stack on the right?
The stack with the "Let It Be" lp at the front had a lot of pop/rock records. They include Jefferson Starship, the Doors, lots of Beatles, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Doobie Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Peter Frampton and so much more. The stack with the "Alien" soundtrack had lots of classic film soundtrack records too. Just too many to list. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.

What an amazing collection of records! I have the majority of those records, also in the vinyl format. I was looking to see if he had the (Urban Decay) album in the Tower of Power section, the only album they did featuring Lenny Williams, a phenomenal record. I wish you both peace in your further endeavors!
Thanks for the info about Urban Decay. I'm a big fan of Lenny Williams. I noticed there are a lot of lps missing from my brother's collection. I remember he had a lot of Ohio Players, Funkadelic, a lot more George Duke, Al Green and Phyllis Hyman records. They might be in a crate stored somewhere. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't planned to film anything but decided I'd stick my phone on my dashboard to film the whole experience and some. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Lots of good stuff in those crates. The Gino Vannelli LP is from 1978. I saw quite a few LPs in your brother's collection that I have or had. And you have a lot of listening to do, it seems, until your brother is ready for them.
Indeed. My goal is to organise the whole lot and clean the plastic sleeves protecting the albums as they are still dusty after sitting in storage for so long. Thanks for watching.
It’s, Joe-beem. Hope that helps. Nice video just stumbled upon it. Where are all the great ladies like you who are into vinyl? I grew up in Fremont btw. ☮️
This is absolutely crazy! Amazing you were able to rescue that whole collection. Some great jazz and soul albums. It's cool to see you drive over the Golden Gate Bridge. You really do have a great channel. Need to catch up on all your vids.
You have a very very nice collection of music classic music that I grew up on in the 70s and I seen that family album I had that one back in the eighties when I was a teenager and all those prince albums 👍💯🥁🎵🎶
It's a big collection and I hope to organise and clean all the albums properly sooner rather than later. It's just finding the time! Thanks for stopping by and watching. Really appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving!
Wow, good haul. I wouldn't mind having all of them. Great Jazz collection and a collection as a whole. Your brother has the same good taste of sound as me. Appreciate it! Where is your brother now? If you don't mind me asking. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting. My brother has been in a challenging situation for quite some time. I'm unable to say more than that to respect his privacy.
Yes, good taste with Gene Dunlap with the Ridgeway Sisters. That Quiet Storm sound isn't really talked about that much now but is absolutely my favorite. I guess there's really not much that's mega rare in that style. Sweet soul harmony which is between doo-wop and Quiet Storm can get rather rare with certain 45 only groups. Discogs refuses to recognize Quiet Storm as a style and replied that it was a marketing gimmick. It is a style because it brings out jazz elements to elongated soul ballads with strong harmonies and vocals. I group together when you really can't separate out the artists like James Brown, JB's, Maceo Parker, and Fred Wesley. Same way with Fleetwood Mac and their member's solo albums where multiple members would reappear. Then there's the Buckingham/McVie album and the Buckingham/Nicks album. Those are tough not to group together because it's a continuum. Jazz Shepherd has a unique way of filing by label and then by catalog number which isn't a bad way to do jazz. It lets you know where the gaps are! I guess it could be tricky when they release older works a decade or two later. I prefer by artist and then chronologically by recording date.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I never realised "Quiet Storm" could possibly be categorized as a jazz genre. Gene Dunlap played with Earl Klugh. Both are from Detroit as are the Ridgeway Sisters. Klugh introduced Dunlap to Capital Records. The Ridgeway Sisters are amazing. The 2 tracks on the record, Before You Break My Heart and Should I Take Her Back or Let Her Go featuring Earl Klugh are really wonderful. The piano solo on Before You Break My Heart is pretty awesome. Greg Moore plays on the lp too. I generally organise my records by genre and then alphabetically by artist. I'm looking forward to giving all these records a proper clean and listening to them.
@@retromusings If you played Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm" for somebody today, they'd say that's jazz. Sax solos, live instrumentation, and a more loose feel of the beat have been lacking in music for at least 30 years. In current R&B, those traits are not present. Furthermore, WHUR in Washington DC created the Quiet Storm format and they were mostly a jazz station during the day run by Howard University. I just got done playing Mandrill's "Love song" and it's like a fusion of soul, jazz, and even a bit classical. There's a lot of ideas in this music being explored but it's down tempo and palatable unlike the freer forms of jazz. In order for music to get to this level, you need musicians and writers that know theory. Norman Connors, Michael Henderson, and even Burt Bacharach all used jazz chords and harmonies and this music is an extension of that.
Thanks so much for all this information. There is so much to learn about these artists, genres and so forth. I had no idea the "Quiet Storm" format started out in D.C. I have Smokey's "Quiet Storm" record. It's fantastic with so many great songs on there like "Baby Backatcha", "The Agony and Ecstasy" and "Quiet Storm".
Your channel came acids my feed. I loved seeing you retrieve your brothers collections. I’m also glad you found part of yours. There are some very iconic artists in that collection. I’m sure you’ll have very good memories when you start playing them. Btw. I subbed your channel. 😊
sorry for your loss, glad you got your albums back and inherited your brother's collection and that your other brother let them live in his garage all these years
The majority of albums in your brothers collection I have as well classics great stuff and unfortunately we lost some of those artists last year William Hart of the Delfonics and Michael Henderson and Thom Bell but their music lives on
Well said. These artists will live on for sure. Great to know old school soul has plenty of fans out there. Many thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Yes. I need to really clean the whole lot and my aim is to catalogue all those albums on Discogs and establish an inventory. This is on top of doing an inventory on Discogs for my own stash of records. This will keep me busy for a while!
Wow, you will have hours and hours of enjoyable listening ahead of you. Great your brother held on to these. At least you have part of your original record collection back along with your other brother's collection. So many great lps there. Curious what you have for a stereo stereo system.
It's all a bit overwhelming. All the vinyl need to be cleaned properly before playing so I will clean as I go when I want to listen to an lp. My turntable set up is very modest.
@@retromusings As they say, one lp at a time. If you think about the whole collection, yes, it is overwhelming. I would view it as a great opportunity. Most people wished they had that many lps come into their house for free. Ok, it did cost gas to pick them up. 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy! I need to seek out that Dee Dee Bridgewater lp. I had the opportunity to meet her and get an autograph at one of her performances about 20 years ago.
Did you find any MALO in there at all? Also, how would I contact you here thru RUclips? I don't see any message link or anything. Re: We host the big record fair here in Northern Ca. (Roseville).
Yes. There's an excellent Malo lp in there...the one with the stunning artwork by Mexican painter Jesús Helguera and featuring the song "Sauvecito". The record fair sounds great. I''ve never been to Roseville. Please do put the event details here in the comments section. I hadn't realized there isn't a "message" link. Will try and sort that out. Thanks for letting me know.
why he give up this great Collection - your Brother have a good music taste - i love Lonnie Liston Smith, one of the greatest jazz - soul spiritual genius. - you found a treasury. I would buy half of them for a minimum of 10-20 USD. Best regards from Berlin -mySoundbook & Team
It's an amazing contemporary jazz collection for sure. Lots of LLS, Cal Tjader, Hubert Laws, Freddie Hubbard and son on. Too many to list here. For very personal reasons, my brother's collection had to be put in storage and it ended up at "Charles's" house for all those years. Sad this has happened but I'm happy the collection is safe and will be looked after. Many thanks for watching and commenting.
@@retromusings have fun, if you like to sell something let me, i would love to take everything about Gilberto, Commodores, Four Tops, George Duke, Hancock, David Benoit etc...Gino Vanelli, Michael Jackson, The Crusaders, Tower of Power etc.., and Blue Note and Impulse Records.etc....i like the soul & Jazz records from the 70s and 80s -
INXS's maxi-single "One Thing" is fab if you don't know it. It was played in all the indie music clubs in San Francisco back in the day. Glad you liked my first stack of my long-lost records found that day. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
I' m not sure. I have yet to go through the 800 lps in the collection properly due to lack of time. It's just sitting like a mountain in my home. Hoping to get cracking on managing the whole vinyl haul in the autumn. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Thanks for the response. I enjoy your music taste and keep those videos coming!! Who has autumn ? 🤣 Here in Tampa,FL we have two seasons summer and summer coming. Take care.
👋Hi Like you i like Bryan Ferry. He recorded alot of good albums ,as frontman with Roxy Music, and as a solo artist. In your Mind from 1977, is cool, and Boys and Girls from the 1980s. I love Deborah Harry and Blondie. I had that album Parallel Lines on vinyl in 1978 too. I was 18 in 1978. Amazing collection of records that was your brother's. I'm sure there are some valuable ones.

I'm drooling! I think would have been to content listening to both of your collections growing up. Would loved to of seen what was behind Let It Be.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've just uploaded a video revealing what'd behind "Let It Be" and the stack behind the "Alien" lp.
Lots of wonderful RNB!
It sure is. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hey just found you, greetings from Wales , subscribed
Awesome! Thanks for watching and subscribing.
WOW. This really blew my mind.......
Yes. It's a huge and overwhelming collection to take in. Thanks for watching.
why he give up this great Collection - your Brother have a good music taste - i love Lonnie Liston Smith, one of the greatest jazz - soul spiritual genius.
@@retromusings have fun, if you like to sell something let me, i would love to take everything about Gilberto, Commodores, Four Tops, George Duke, Hancock, David Benoit etc...Gino Vanelli, Michael Jackson, The Crusaders, Tower of Power etc.., and Blue Note and Impulse Records.etc....i like the soul & Jazz records from the 70s and 80s -
I like your old collection, First Stack, the best, I have most of them except the INXS and Madonna singles, INXS is on my list to get now.
INXS's maxi-single "One Thing" is fab if you don't know it. It was played in all the indie music clubs in San Francisco back in the day. Glad you liked my first stack of my long-lost records found that day. Thanks for stopping by and watching.

Don’t sale them , soul and 70s jazz is very hard to come by! Soul is produced in smaller quantities!
Agreed. These vintage soul and jazz lps are pretty hard to find. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@retromusings As a lifelong musician, this music was what I grew up on and had several vinyls myself.
Any Weather Report?
I' m not sure. I have yet to go through the 800 lps in the collection properly due to lack of time. It's just sitting like a mountain in my home. Hoping to get cracking on managing the whole vinyl haul in the autumn. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Thanks for the response. I enjoy your music taste and keep those videos coming!! Who has autumn ? 🤣 Here in Tampa,FL we have two seasons summer and summer coming. Take care.
@@retromusings What source are you using for your vinyl?
👋Hi Like you i like Bryan Ferry. He
recorded alot of good albums ,as frontman with Roxy Music, and as a solo artist.
Those were great years for great music. Roxy Music was so big. Blondie's Deborah Harry is still going strong. She's amazing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
@@retromusings Deborah Harry is amazing. She's in her seventies and performs still. I have viewed her recently in concert on RUclips.
