  • This is a video introducing a special method of making metal (silver) by layering it.
    This is one of my representative works, and it is a difficult,
    laborious and time-consuming metal craft technique.
    There seems to be a lot of people who are curious about how to make it,
    so I opened up my know-how and made it public.
    We tried to show every process as much as possible,
    and we hope that it will be helpful to everyone who watches.
    Thank you very much for watching.

      The entire box was made in 2005, and it was the work that won the grand prize in the contest.
      This video is an introduction to silver weaving, and the box will show you how to do it.
      thanks~

    I'm just as impressed by the well thought out work station as I am the work. I've never seen such an efficient, ergonomic set up in my life. I'm in the process of building my studio now and I'm going to slow down and pay a LOT more attention to the individual work stations after seeing this!

    I've been watching a lot of metalworking videos lately, and this is the first one that looks doable by me, given my skills and tools, but I have to accept that this is the end result of years of work, and practice, and an incredible video, that shows how it's done right. Thank you SM, as this gives me a new hobby to start working at and striving for. Beautiful is such a plain word to use for this.

    ...lovin' your work- iv done leatherwork for 40yrs+, 3yrs at fashion and 25yrs a pattern maker, relief carving and now starting in jewellery... really inspired with your weaving...in leather I do braiding so I started braiding copper wire and added abit of twisting, annealing, soldering and pickling all learnt on the way and now I'm starting with my first 925 silver... 👍

    • @SilverMeister

      I want to help someone who is doing something similar to what I am doing.
      I am very happy that my video can help you.
      Thanks~
      An additional tip:
      I recommend working with 95% silver.
      It's a bit softer so it's easier to work with.

    • @merlandsdragon
      @merlandsdragon 8 месяцев назад

      @SilverMeister ...ahhhh, that explains it... first time iv used 925 and I annealed the hell out of it, quenched and it was only a little easier to work... I'll be looking for the softer one next time, thanks... just to ask aswell I'm looking for a milling machine and Foredom SR soon'ish and the price can be a bit steep but I saw a brand called Vevor (I think) on line and wondered what you know about them ??? The prices are so good even if it only lasted a year it's worth it... personally I think with a good maintenance routine and not overworking a product iv had quite good success spending minimal money in the short term...

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  8 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know much about Vevor.
      Foredom is, as you said, very expensive.
      The Foredom I use is an old product that I received as a gift 30 years ago.
      In Korea, offline tool shops sell domestically made handpieces, and I use them because they are relatively inexpensive and do not break down.
      I don't know about online shops. sorry.

    • @merlandsdragon
      @merlandsdragon 8 месяцев назад

      @SilverMeister ...iv just recently watched a couple of short stories on the Vevor brand and it was clearly showing the brand name Foredom is cast into the body at the top... im thinking Foredom created a cheaper brand as competition against itself to corner more of the sales market... its literally the difference between $700-$800 compared to $100-$180... I dont normally go to such a cheaper brand but I also want a milling machine which in the same brand of Vevor and seems very affordable also... plus after watching a variety of different artists either unboxing them and giving their opinion or showing them in use while giving high praise is very encouraging and if I continue in this direction I can invest more confidently in myself later... im also looking forward to trying some of the rings your doing... lol, you make it look easy and im a fast learner... 👍

      이번 영상에서는 겹짜기 기법의 원리와 제작의 기본 과정까지 보여 드린 것입니다.
      이렇게 만들어진 것을 기초로... 어떤 작품을 만드는 가에 따라 활용 방법도 달라지게 됩니다.
      말씀해 주신 것처럼, 뒷면 전체와 작은 빈틈 사이사이를 모두 땜하여 작업에 적용하기도 합니다.

    What beautiful results! I'm not a metal-worker, but am interested in the process. I did want to ask--what is that gorgeous black wood you are using as the block you work on? I love that, and it must be pretty hard wood to be sturdy enough to use in metal working. That aside, I can see why your work won a medal, it is an intricate process requiring attention to detail. Very well done!

    • @SilverMeister
      @SilverMeister  Год назад +3

      Black Wood appears a lot in my other videos.
      Mpingo (African Blackwood) is the hardest, hardest, heaviest, and sinks in water due to its high specific gravity.
      This is a tree that grows naturally in Africa (mainly Tanzania and southern regions) and is used to make high-end musical instruments and is also used for the black keys of top-notch pianos.

      The word sajannim (sajang-nim) refers to the owner (head, representative) of a company or store.
      I work alone in a small workshop, so it seems right to be called just a craftsman or a craft artist.
      Anyway, thank you very much for your comment~
