A lot of folks said “Ledger’s Joker will never be topped.” It’s almost like Phoenix’s Joker isn’t trying to compete but rather continue in the sinister ways that only Joker can do, for shits and giggles of course... two different Jokers, no competition, still a win for Joker and fans alike!!
The problem I have is that the Joker really doesn’t have a canonical origin. Sure, you’ve got The White Knight, The Killing Joke, and others, but really none are confirmed in DC. That’s what makes him *The Joker* He’s the perfect antagonist to Batman because he doesn’t have a secret identity. He’s a mystery, even to _The World’s Greatest Detective_
That was my problem with it initially too, but what I realised is that you can't treat it as just another DCEU movie, it's not canon and has no ties to the greater universe. Instead, treat it like it's an exploration of who the joker COULD be, rather than an explanation of who is.
@@astashasta1 I'm not so sure, considering how many times the DC universe has been rebooted, even within the cinematic universe we've had quite a few, very stylistically distinct jokers, sure there'll be a good percentage that will think this is a definitive origin story, but people have been able to make the distinctions between jokers in the past, I don't see why they won't be able to again.

So if this is set in the 80s and Thomas Wayne is in it and the new Batman movie is set in the 90s. Does that mean that this Joker will turn up in the new Batman movie? Also I think that kid in the trailer is Bruce Wayne.

Kristian Burton eh some people say that because he died, I say it more for the improvisation he did. If you look at the actual script and what he did it’s amazing, not to mention how he affected others on set with his look and voice. It’s timeless. I encourage you to do research on it for the full “wow” affect.
Between this movie and the upcoming "IT: Chapter 2" people who play clowns at parties will not be hired to perform so much! I think Jesse from "Full House" was right not to like clowns. Joey Gladstone as a clown had these soulless eyes and was kind of scary!

The director of this is Todd Phillips. Only good stuff from him is the first Hangover movie and War Dogs. This is a separate movie from the DCEU, Joaquin Phoenix is a great choice for the Joker, and i have to believe Phoenix saw something in the script that hooked him. I'm still skeptical; We had Aquaman, we're getting Shazam this week, please let this movie be great and not mediocre trash. Please Warner Bros.
