It’s time for the biggest sporting spectacle-the Paris Olympics. The Games will begin on July 26 and run until August 11. As many as 117 Indian athletes, the second-most significant contingent, will be in action at the Games.
In this new India Today special podcast, ‘Olympic Tales’, we debate why it’s not always right to look at the medal count to judge the progress of Indian sports. Are we doing enough to become a sport-playing nation? Are we giving our athletes enough space in the media?
Indian Olympics movement has come a long way. From winning just one medal as recently as 2000 to having huge hopes from the contingent in 2024, the Olympics powerhouse dream is headed in the right direction.
With India looking to host the Games in 2036, it's important that the groundwork starts in Paris. Can India surpass the previous-best medal tally of 7?
In the pilot episode of Olympic Tales, join Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari as they discuss India in the Olympics.

If cricket got famous after winning the world cup, then why didn't badminton get famous after winning Thomas cup(World cup) for the first time. The indians are wearing glasses of cricket, they don't see anything but cricket in sports.

India needs to Increase participation in Athletics, Swimming and cycling if it want to progress at the Olympics.
Disappointed to see no athlete in the long distance running; marathon.

Horrific opinion by Saurabh. The problem is within the grassroot level.
No sportsperson would be grateful for the nation to give them the resources at 20.
In successful sporting nations, there is a trickle down system. Collegiate sports is huge. We dont have any kind of infrastructure for grassroot sports.
The american and chinese athletes get already ahead of our athletes as amateurs. Then our athletes just play chase.

My first memory of Olympics is P.T. Usha missing the bronze in 400 m hurdles at the Los Angeles Olympics 1984. We had nothing before that besides hockey, and after that we had nothing for many years, not even hockey. But things have changed now. We are no longer "also rans", we are contenders in almost every event that we go for. Whether we medal or not, our standards are now impressive, the invisible barrier or glass ceiling has been breached. We are here. We have arrived, and we will grow.
Lot of josh in this video, but the thoughts and ideas which are voiced need to be backed with more accurate information and knowledge of the topic. It sounds a bit like a canteen discussion happening anywhere in the country. Sorry, it is not a comment on your patriotism and passion which is evident, but we expect India Today to give more interesting, well researched and well organized stuff. This was pathetic.
