I’ve seen a couple people already say the same thing (probably because a lot of the amazon reviews recommended it) but I got the wen track saw as well without the tracks and upgraded to the powertec tracks. Absolutely no complaints on the tracks at all and if you’re really itching to upgrade them, I believe makita, wen, and festool all use the same pattern so you can use any of the accessories interchangeably. I’m really only a hobbyist who likes to make things for my house and needed a track saw to breakdown sheet goods. I don’t have a table saw and am in a townhouse without a garage so can’t really accommodate one. The wen track saw has been great for me and I really haven’t had any problems with it at all. First cuts with it were also on a 8/4 red oak slab countertop project and it didn’t have a problem. I don’t think there’s really a better bang for your dollar right now as a hobbyist than wen tools.
Great review Matt. I have the Festool and 2 weeks before the 3 year warranty was ending my batteries wouldn't charge. Festool replaced them with no questions asked.
I bought the 36 volt Makita about a month ago and have absolutely no regrets. I actually wish I bought one years ago. Having a track saw saves so much time. If you build things often go get one they are so many things they help with. I bought the Makita because most of the reviews out there say it is almost equal to the Festool. I decided on it because of the battery platform and can afford to get in the Makita platform. Katz-Moses did a comparison about a year ago.
I have the Kreg, and feel it is professional quality. It also works with their Adaptive Cutting System, which is a big positive. Their tracks are also long, so when you put two together to rip a full sheet, you get space at both ends for your saw to begin and end cuts. It is an excellent saw for cutting cabinet parts and other large pieces that are hard to cut on a table saw or miter saw.
I got the Wen track saw last December. I upgraded the stock blade to the Wen 56 tooth blade. I only use this to break down sheet goods. As a hobbyist it's everything I need. Good reviews of all three track saws!
Some of the better woodworking videos on you tube. Thanks Matt. I have bought some of your plans and actually built from them. They are also of good quality.
I bought the wen 2 years ago it came with a 55-inch track and 2- 26-inch tracks and 2 track clamps which I haven't had to use and with a little shot of spray dry track lube it's as slick as snot on a doorknob it has served me well and with the money, I saved I was able to purchase an oscillating spindle sander, dust collector and a dust filter and still had a little money left for material for a project I was making I couldn't have done all that if I spent $800 on a fustool
got the Kreg, did have a problem with the retraction a spring came lose, got a new screw good to go, When I was running it through 12 foot slab of redwood at 2 Inches it did begin to burn but did ok.
I DIY and only cut 1/2 to 3/4 ply. Perhaps 40 cuts a year. I use it to break down sheets and do have a Dewalt 7491 table saw. Ended up with the WEN with a additional 56 tooth blade and Powertec tracks. Originally bought the WEN tracks but didn't like the length of the tracks. Very happy with the WEN. Took off the kickback cam.
Love watching your videos I lean so much about woodworking and the tools needed. So much information! Would love to have a track saw but I cannot afford one unfortunately.
I've owned the Kreg for the past 2 years. It is a beast!!!! Perfect for DIY and Pro projects. If you can't afford the Festool (top quality tools), don't even think about it, get the Kreg. Highly recommended!!!!!!!
Great video as always. I remember when you didn't have nearly as much stuff ( wood working tools and your big work table) in your garage/wood shop. It's been awesome seeing your channel grow into what's it's become today, and that you are able to have these "give aways" that you have been doing. Best of luck to everyone, I'm sure we all have our reasons as to needing or wanting a good track saw.
Really love your videos. The Kreg saw is actually a brushed motor. They hide it but there's a whole section in the manual about them on page 20. When the brushes wear out you have to return it to Kreg to replace them. That's a deal breaker for me.
I’ve had the ts55 since day dot. got in on the second generation. So a loooong time ago. still works perfectly and cuts like it’s new. still has that busted festool sound too haha. it’s was my main workshop track saw and I ended up getting the 36v makita as an on-site saw. I loved the makita so much I got another to replace my ts55 bench saw just to get rid of the cable. I’ve got the Bluetooth festool extractor so if works really well. the only thing I miss is the nicer depth adjustment on the festools. but it’s not that big of a deal as I’m mostly cutting the same thickness all day.
The Kreg is aimed at right handed users with the blade on the left, to be able to make a 48" cut on the ACS table. That's also why the track is so long.
Interesting comparison. And an interesting choice of models. Personally, I own the Makita, which I purchased many years ago - not because I thought it was better than the Festool, rather as a result of using one at work and being very happy with the performance. Of course, the fact that it was on a special and came with a makpack, extra blade, 2 tracks in a bag, along with two clamps for around about the same price as the Kreg, sealed the deal for me. The Wen looks very like so many generic tracksaws available here in the UK, and has the advantage of being compatible with Makita, Evolution and Festool accessories, meaning you can always up your game at a later stage if needs be.
Thank you sir! Have been following for while. This a good video as you didn’t beat up the lower and tool. Not all us can afford the festool or the Kreg for that matter. Great job!
I have the Wen (with upgraded track) . Used it to cut 45deg mitered corners for a walnut plywood dresser with WATER FALL EDGES. at first i was really concerned as there is play when you set it to 45 deg. but i just held it down (the play was up) and it cut perfect 45s Agree if you were a heavy user go with something better but for a casual user it worked fine
Great video, Matt. That was an excellent point about the length of one track segment when discussing the Wen. I had not considered that fully. Good information to have when thinking about the alternatives.
I got the Wen 7 1/4” and powertec tracks. Used it for one weekend and found it underpowered and cumbersome to use. Working with 3/4” sheets for cabinets and drawers. It was my first experience with a track saw and I really wanted to like it. Did some more research and bought the Makita 36v track saw and wow, night and day difference. The Makita was a dream to use. After my first cut I thought I didn’t lower the saw enough to cut through because it moved effortlessly across the tracks (same tracks); but when I pulled the board it came apart. The cut was smooth and perfect. Just sharing my experience. Going to donate the Wen locally. Love the channel, you help me a lot. Just getting back into woodworking after a couple decade break. Really enjoying it and just finished a 15 drawer built in dresser in my master bedroom closet remodel. Keep up the great content!
Enjoyed the video. Ibought the Wen and it has worked great so far. You discussed crosscutting sheet goods, but never mentioned that the Wen is the only one that could rip the full 8ft length of a sheet.
This saw has now been updated. It now comes with a pretty nice air craft aluminum base. Took care of the inaccurate bevel cut, that was resulting from the flexing plastic base.
I mostly agree with your assessment of these saws. I own the WEN, bought it with the longer Powertec tracks. I also bought the WEN 56 tooth blade(only $27). This blade makes smooth rip & crosscuts. Also, I didn't notice my saw being underpowered or bogging down in any way. I was just cutting plywood but for me that's the only thing I plan to cut with this saw. If I need to cut thick boards I'll just use my table saw. One final thought on the anti-kickback "feature." The instructions actually tell you how to remove it. So I'm thinking they realize what a pain it is and expect most people to remove it. I agree with the people who want you to look at the Makita track saw as it could possibly be a closer competitor to the more expensive tool you're planning to keep. Thanks for the content.
I've decided and I tell people- pick the brand and battery platform you want to be on and then pick the tool. So unless it's just amazingly better than the one that's on my platform I'll stick with it. I chose Makita, I'm going to get the Makita track saw unless it just was absolute junk ,I'll jump platforms. Bought Milwaukee 18 gauge cordless nailer because I thought it was the best by far out there, so I got the adapter online and still use my Makita battery 😃👍
The Festool adjusts the motor speed so the blade stays at the same speed throughout the cut. It sounds like bogging down but it’s really not. Not sure if the Kreg does this or if it’s bogging down though? Great video, I’m grateful for all you do brother ✊🏾
@@HilderbrandOutdoors I would say they ARE. I got their 12" bench top variable speed drill press and its really good. Rock solid with no vibration, pretty quiet and accurate. Their disk/belt sander is also a solid piece of equipment, heavy too.
Like your videos. Bought the Wen on your review. Tried it, hated it. Need 3 fingers at least to start it. Too much of a pain to use. Bought the Makita, love it. If keeping costs down, and don't mind fussing with it, buy the Wen. Good luck.
Other saws to consider are Makita, Bosch, Mafell. One should not discount the benefits of the better Mafell/Bosch system track as it is better at joining up pieces to get long track and thus cut 8’ much cheaper and will less track joining fuss, vs the Fesstool/Makita track systems
The comparasion video is great for I just went back to wood working and started getting the tools but it is very expensive slowly but Shurly I will get it but don’t know when so I can start building some great projects
Good comparison video! Thin stamped parts like the housings on these saws is often magnesium. It’s lightweight and isn’t as brittle as aluminum, and that allows for more aggressive shaping with thin material.
Enjoying this, another of your videos, the Creative Tool kit is due soon, the Massca 2 Pro is here, you can slow up for a bit so my budget can build back up.
I see what you're doing in your comparison. I looked at Festool before buying a Bosh 18v. The Bosch has more power than the Festool and cuts deeper plus the cost is approx. $200.00 less but it only comes with a 43,3" tract. I bought the contractor "deluxe" (?) kit to be able to not only cut 48" crosscut but also rips without taking the tracts apart. I should mention the kit has 2 63" pieces and the connector. Put one 63" with one 43.3" and the other 63" by itself. Makes life easier total cost with extra track and carry bag for tract, connector, & clamps $750.00 (Amazon) Also saw comes with - 1 - 18 volts "core" batt., 1 charger, and a very strong sustainer case. Just food for thought. Good comparison though.
This is a great comparison! Easily explained, detailed, and thorough. I'm needing to get me a track saw so I'm definitely going to be entering. You guys are amazing for this giveaway and this channel!
I have a bunch of WEN tools and they have all proven to be good. I would avoid their track saw though just because of the short track. I rarely make an angled cut, so that is unimportant to me. Their customer service has been top notch, IMO.
Thank you for the great comparison. Festool is way too expensive for my budget and frequency of use. I’m a good feller, not a Rockefeller! The other two make more sense for my major use which is breaking down plywood.
Thank-you, well done, very informative. Noticed a drill press behind you. Which model is that? How do you like it? I’ve been considering whether to get something about that size.
I'd note that there is another potential plus to getting the Kreg plunge saw. I first got the Kreg and later I got the ACS table. Now I have the function of the Advanced Cutting System as well as the track saw function. The ACS system is a little limited but still pretty capable. It's not going to replace all the functionality of a good table saw but it's portable and will do a lot.
Love the video one of the best review videos I've seen my skill saw was stolen so I need to replace it I would love the opportunity to be able to win one I've always wanted one just don't have the money to get it keep making the great videos
The festool probally has a much better blade that comes with it, put a top notch blade on the Kreig and it will probally reduce splinters. Thinking of buy the Kreg, good video.

I identify with the Wen. Much like it, I got a little wobbly at 45.
I don't know if this was true when you made the video, but Wen has a 55" track, which can be paired for 110"
Understand there’s 2 versions of the “Wen” for less than $50 you can get “Kreg” variation with a 7 1/4 blade bigger motor and speed control
Glad you are comparing. Kregg seems like the best middle of the road and I like the depth adjustment
Let's goooo! Been waiting for this one! Hopefully I can save up some $ from projects for a tracksaw soon!

One cut every 2 to 3 months on the Wen. Dude, that is hysterical. You just created a new definition of "light duty".
Really appreciate these videos! Also, really appreciate the videos of the greatest free gift!
Glad you like them!
Great video! I wonder how much tear out you’d have using the same blade on each tool in comparison. Well done video!! Thank you!
Really love your videos. The Kreg saw is actually a brushed motor. They hide it but there's a whole section in the manual about them on page 20. When the brushes wear out you have to return it to Kreg to replace them. That's a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for that info!
AND the WEN ships with a spare set of brushes in with the saw.
I was looking at track saws but decided to go with the Bora NGX straight edge and NGX saw plate for it.

The Festool adjusts the motor speed so the blade stays at the same speed throughout the cut. It sounds like bogging down but it’s really not.
Not sure if the Kreg does this or if it’s bogging down though?

The kreg does bog down
Very informative video. Am looking for a track saw to purchase. Your descriptions helped me narrow my decision about which saw to drop my money on.
Glad I could help
Great comparison video. Thank you!!!
I'd have gone with Kreg if it had used a standard track. Without that I'd have liked to have seen the Makita. That one seems to be at my sweet spot.
Sounds like in the first minute we know whop wins! seeing you are keeping the festool! great video thanks
I usually like Kregs products. If I'm ever in need of a track saw ill probably pick one up.

You guys are amazing for this giveaway and this channel!
that thumbnail though. 🔥
Thanks!
I have a bunch of WEN tools and they have all proven to be good. I would avoid their track saw though just because of the short track. I rarely make an angled cut, so that is unimportant to me. Their customer service has been top notch, IMO.
Nice compare. I look forward to winning. Good luck everyone.
Thank you for the great comparison. Festool is way too expensive for my budget and frequency of use. I’m a good feller, not a Rockefeller! The other two make more sense for my major use which is breaking down plywood.
I need a track saw! Great vid. 👍
Awsome video to me the best one it the most expensive one , I would choose a higher quality because you know you'll get what you paid for
Fantastic video. Well done. One question tho. How do I sign up for the drawing? Will be watching for more videos. Thanks
Nice comparison and review. Have you tried the Grizzly?
this 731 Woodworks brought to you by the Professor (new and improved with glasses), so much smarter that the normal host
Makita is the one I've used the most. The festool is nice, but both are expensive
Thank-you, well done, very informative.
Noticed a drill press behind you. Which model is that? How do you like it? I’ve been considering whether to get something about that size.
I am interested in getting a corded one! There is so many brands. I narrowed it down to the kreg, triton , and makita. Can you please help me choose!?
I'd note that there is another potential plus to getting the Kreg plunge saw.
I first got the Kreg and later I got the ACS table. Now I have the function of the Advanced Cutting System as well as the track saw function.
The ACS system is a little limited but still pretty capable. It's not going to replace all the functionality of a good table saw but it's portable and will do a lot.
Great reviews. Been watching your vids for a while and have built a few of them. Woodworking is a great hobby would love a track saw
Great review thank you
Love the video one of the best review videos I've seen my skill saw was stolen so I need to replace it I would love the opportunity to be able to win one I've always wanted one just don't have the money to get it keep making the great videos
UK here - 🥺
Good luck to everyone in the USA though - 😊
I am so excited for this video. Thanks.
I'm so glad!
Masterforce makes a track saw for $200.00. I heard it works descent for the price. I haven’t used it but I am looking at getting one in the future.
The festool probally has a much better blade that comes with it, put a top notch blade on the Kreig and it will probally reduce splinters. Thinking of buy the Kreg, good video.
Thanks for this information!
