I have just got one of these for work and I love it. I must admit I do have it plugged into a 27 inch monitor and external keyboard but it's great for some pretty heavy Excel work.
I have mine on a 42" 1080p TV via HDMI and everything is fantastic. I used to do CAD (just line work, no 3D or simulation) with $4,000 CRT monitors. I like the much cheaper 42" TV for spreadsheets and everything else.
Hi Damir, Excellent work as always! I have a question. Are you going to review the Latitude 5480? I was planning on investing in that model but then read a Notebookcheck review that claims it has a very low screen brightness compared to 5470... Would you confirm that? My priorities are Low Noise, Screen quality and Keyboard.
The e5000 series still has nothing on the e6000 series. I know after the 6#40 the E5#50 kinda took over, but let's be honest it didn't. That plastic shell can't make up for that tried and tested tri-metal. The tried to rectify this with the '80 and '90 series of the 5000, but it still isn't nearly as nice looking or durable. Even the 7000 series took a hit. I often wonder if this was a move to get people to buy in to the XPS series. Big corporations are not likely to care as much as the little guy, and so they kinda found a way to make them cheaper while saving the consumer jack. I know, I know the carbon fiber and carbon alloy. Nothing beats the real thing. Even the carbon fiber of the 7000 and XPS series is an oil catcher. At least Dell has gone back to the aluminium on some of their higher end offerings. About time Dell. They really had something great with that trimetal setup.
Cooles Video! O.o
Hi Damir! First off, thanks for awesome review videos :) You say that the fingerprint reader is slow and unreliable. Do you actually show it in action in any of your videos, like you do with smartphones? Or, do you have any of the laptops still to make a fingerprint reader test video? Or, if you have no video and don't have the laptops still, what's your estimates for: 1. Unlock time (0,5 seconds? 1 second? 2 seconds?) 2. False rejection rate (out of a 100 login tries, how many would fail?) I understand it's hard to estimate but give it your best guess :) There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, interested in this matter :) Thanks again!
Ok! Thanks for the quick reply! I will look through your videos to see if I can find it :) Would you say it could be a software related problem? Windows hello thats lagging perhaps? Or maybe driver issue? Have you tested other sensors on windows, for example HP laptops or Microsoft surface 4 type cover with sensor? If so, do these work better? Thanks again! P.S. There are tens of thousands swedish private people invested in fingerprint sensor companies. Add to that norwegians, danes, americans, chinese, korean etc. Doing dedicated fingerprint sensor test videos could get you a lot of more viewers :)
Hi again Damir! I've done some research and it seems they shipped out a bad batch of sensors. Others in the same time period have reported similar problems. Someone has reported that a replacement unit is working fine. Just thought you should know, if you receive another Dell with the same sensor, perhaps it's worth to try it and see if its better? :)
I am in the middle of buying a new laptop. I have the option to go for either e7450 or e5470 both are 1080p. Im mostly looking for the durability, ease of maintenance and if it can handle light gaming. Both are in the same price in my country. What do you think is better? Oh there's also the inspiron 7359 and 7568 but Im not sure if its worth compared to a latitude laptop. All are in the same price range so money not an issue with this. lol sorry if its too long of a question
Great video and a lot of useful information in the video, thank you for making it. I am sorry but 768p just won't ever cut it for me. I am so used to having a webpage next to a document on one screen with the snap assist in windows 10 that I can't do with less than 1080P or maybe 900P. Yes, it works on 768p but with some excel spreadsheets you can run into readability issues if you need to see a decent range of columns and rows. Besides, it just reads less pleasantly and makes my eyes feel tired much sooner than 1080p. I just don't understand this about a lot of professional laptops. Go 1080P+ or go home. Even smartphones feature 1080p displays these days, or even higher resolutions..

Hi, Great great review. Could you please comment on the screen arm hinges of the laptop. In my experience, the hinges of Dell laptops break pretty soon. How would you compare them with Thinkpad's hinges, which are probably the best. Thanks alot.
Can I upgrade the 1366*768 720p display to a 1080p one?? ive already purchased mine and its great but the screen is ugly. i see plenty 1080p screens for it online and on ebay but im wondering if they will work
Damir Franc I see some new 1080p glossy and matte displays online for the e5470 for around $55-65usd depending if u want matte or glossy, TN or IPS etc. the display is extremely easy to replace literally used my fingers to remove the front bezel and a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws holding it in place. think I'm gonna risk it and buy one. I've already sent the website my LCD part number.
Thank you. Have you tried out any different models of the "Dell Latitude" series? Are there any difference in the different fingerprint sensors? Thanks for the quick reply :)
Hello. Could it run smoothly AutoCad Electrical? There is E5470 with i7 6600u model and AMD R7 M360 graphic card. One more important question: It is worth to buy a E5470 - Manufacturer refurbished? Thanks, Benjamin
1080p is 1,920x1,080, I would say so but you'll be the judge. Electrical is mostly line work: single line diagram, schematic, board layout, etc. Nothing heavy duty. AutoCad is slow and bloated, yeah you need core i7 and a fast graphics card but what you're doing (line work) is not that demanding on the computer.
Hey quick question 2016 latitude 14 5000 series or E5470 to be exact Offer HQ Skylake chip right? As far as i know, HQ mean QuadCore while all E5470's reviewer on utube said that it has only Dual Core I be like "wut?"
***** Are you seriously ask me where? Dude.. On Dell Official Website 2016 Dell Latitude 5000 series, E5470 to be exact offer i7 - 6820 HQ as main processor You reviewed Dell a lot without checking their website? -_-
+Damir Franc in Germany I have just bought a "German" 5470 with a quad-core i5 (6440HQ). Via CyberPort. But you are right: I haven't found this model on the official Dell Germany site.
+Bob K. it seems, that they list this model now. But at the time I bought it the model was not listed at the German DELL website. Only the dual-core models. I had taken a look as I wanted to know the "DELL price" for it before I bought the Latitude at a local dealer.
+Bob K. I like the Latitude. It has enough power for my job as developer. After adding more RAM (16 GB) I can run multiple virtual machines. And the most time the laptop is very silent. The full HD display is also great. So I can recommend at least the model I have.
I know in previous years the higher resolution screens got carbon or magnesium lids... maybe the cheap plastic lid is reserved just for the 768 model... I could be wrong but something to look into.
I bought 5480 with 7820hq, and the coil whine is very irritating, so it's not comfortable for me to work with it. 5470 had the same problem, by the way.
Did not know the term coil whine, but this sounds like high frequency magnetic induction. Loose winding in an inductor like in a video card, motherboard or power supply. I think you have pretty good ears for high frequencies. If the sound driving me nuts and I have to keep the computer, I would encapsulate the offending components in epoxy.
Not all keyboards have the backlight ability. It depends if you ordered it with one. It costs extra. How to know? The backlit keyboard key is the F10. If the F10 key has the backlit symbol in blue, then your keyboard is backlit. You need to press and hold the Fn key and then press the F10 key.
A soft touch/rubberised lid looks and feels really nice at the beginning but they gradually pick up a lot of dust and fingerprints, and over time a lot of scratches, dirt, vinyl/ sticker residue, etc all over. and 1-2 years later it looks kind of ugly. But I use my laptop very roughly often in dirty environments. I'm looking at you ThinkPads! I don't mind the plastic lid too much for that reason, and it is a lot easier to clean.
If money is no issues then skip Dell and buy a Asus ROG gaming laptop instead. 2300$ there would give you 3x the performance of any Dell laptop of that price...
Nice review! I'm getting this laptop soon.
