Hugo, this was a validating talk for me because as much as I adore all the sartorial talks that you and Sonya do, I live in southern california and wearing a beautiful jacket with elegant shoes and shirt with a nice pair of dark jeans is a great way to go here...thank you!! Also now I am wanting to have a Canadian Tuxedo made!!

No matter how much I wonder if I should watch one of these videos and I clearly know I should, I’m never left disappointed for having took the time to watch, understand and gain greater perspective in bespoke dressing. My dress style is all the better because of these videos as well a much greater perspective of the history of men’s style and fashion than I ever knew. I’m more sophisticated fashion wise as well because I understand some history of the elegance and transformation of classic style.
This is perfect timing as my first sports coat is arriving today. I got it in navy with a cool texture (well at least it looked like that on the website hahaha).
Wow! finally this style is here!! it has been my favorite style for the last five years, just a dark jeans with sport coat or a blazer, a classic shoes and i add a pocket square. I find it very elegant and relaxing as you said. I loved the last 2 outfits of you, they were amazing on you and very elegant, and i believe you will gain more subscribers with this style))))))). Well done Hugo,Stay save , Love to you & Sonya from Cairo.
Excellent Hugo! Especially now, in this more relaxed age. I think if done right, there’s no reason why Jeans and a jacket/jumper or shirt can’t look elegant. Slightly more casual, but I think that works now everyday so much easier for people. That denim suit looks superb - it’s something that sounds terrible if you say to someone a ‘Jean suit’ but it really looks excellent, very sharp. Bravo!
I too only have one Jean and the rest of them are cotton or linen trousers, that's what living in a hot and humid country does to you 😂 thank you for making this video! Very insightful
Thank you Mister Hugo and Madam Sonya for everything you do. This was a really nice presentation, it is so inspiring to see you combine formal and casual pieces, you need to mention socks more often. I know it’s a small piece but very important and you always wear them very elegantly. Thank you once again.
I’m an on and off watcher of your channel and I always appreciate the style of your presentation. Educational and suggestive of a better way to dress but not a harangue or pretentious. Hugo always brings an air of sophistication as well, maturity and seriousness that some other channels lack. I also appreciate so much your desire to try and revive the trades of tailoring and cobblering....while I don’t work in the trades I truly believe it is worth bringing them back. Also, I believe you’ve said your videos are typically filmed in your home. Have you any plans for a small tour? It’s beautiful and tastefully furnished and decorated. I’d appreciate seeing more.
Hugo in jeans the sartorial god. I was surprised, but you looked great in ALL the outfits. I myself loved jeans and jackets, so really loved the video.
Living in California it is very casual here. I feel overdressed whenever I wear a suit, even when I attend funerals or weddings. For this reason about the most I can get away with is a nice jacket with jeans. Glad you made a video on this.
Thanks Brendon for sharing your experience on the subject. Our youngest daughter lives close to Santa Barbara and we've witness first hand that it is a very causal region. All my best, Hugo
Great video as always. For the crowd in general I'll offer points from a Canadian.: First, the term Canadian Tuxedo can refer to any denim on denim ensemble. The beautiful piece in the video certainly qualifies but is not typical and is much more elevated than is usual for the type. Second, this is not to be confused with a Canadian dinner jacket which refers to a plaid flannel shirt.
I am in love with Jacob Cohen jeans. I own way too many 😂😳🙄 …and with a dark blue smoking jacket😙 Perfect😍. The history of denim is extraordinary and should never be overlooked in sartorial discussions.
You look great in the jeans! I love the more casual vibe while still keeping it elegant. I usually reserve a suit for special occasions, so this is a look I’d feel more comfortable wearing on most days, given my lifestyle. It’s inspiring that you paired a more formal jacket with jeans and made it work so well. I think it’s an intriguing and creative look. Thanks for giving me the courage to try something like that!

@@SARTORIALTALKS for my daily activities a full suit is too dressy, and it would have to be a really good job interview to get me to put on a tie, but even so, your insight on matching shoes, shirt color, fabric is applicable regardless...just depends on how people extract value from the video content, and I think yours is great, FYI!
I definately like all the variations you showed us, but there is another one i personally love, especially during the cold time of the jear. A slim fit harris tweedjacket in herringbone does look absolutly sharp in combination with dark denim and balmoralboots in cognac. It even looks great just wearing a tweed waistcoat, jeans and a coat in tweed. ( yes, its true felt love with "walker slater") Peter😎
Uhhhh… there are beautiful light grey, white, beige, light purple green etc et jeans without holes or worned look that gives you an elegant summer/fall/spring look in combination with appropriate jackets. Cheers Hugo and team 😊
What I like about jacket or sport coat (along that line) is that it becomes bridge between casual & formal. Pairing it with jeans will make it casual, but it levels up into smart casual and looks more elegant. I personally prefer this one as I want to dress up more neatly but not going overboard. Thank you for your insight, Hugo.
A lovely video as always. I have a pair of Cordings blue jeans that I like to wear with a brown herringbone Harris tweed jacket from Walker Slater. It works well with a burgundy turtleneck sweater, and some nice brown leather shoes.
Hugo, This may not be relevant to the video, but your hair is beautiful. If it's dyed or bleached, it's a wonderful job. If it's natural then you have some of the best hair I've seen for someone your age. In short, I'd love a video on grooming/hair maintenance, because you seem to have it down.
Wow, I received more often messages saying my hair is crappy and that I 'm too old to wear long hair... So thank you! It's of course all natural (I started to have white hair in my early 30s) and they grow very fast. It's probably genetical, as my mum, who is 83, has very long and thick white hair. All my best, Hugo
Hugo, it is interesting to see you in Jean. I just amazed that you took a smoking jacket, which looks fabulous to see in these videos, I love the fact you added the jean to it. With the fine pair of shoes... That I might of ordered a few days ago.

I cuff everything, I said sure. He’s said that really is the best look and heritage for selvedge denim. Would you cuff your next pair? I got hooked and now have them in several weights, black / blue. Well.... that led to jean jackets / corduroy and suede in that same cut. Next thing you know, you’ve gone deep, lol. I don’t see as many guys wear cuffed jeans as non cuffed. Great sorry on the Canadian tuxedo...Please tell you lovely bride hello! Sorry for being so long, I don’t get out much these days, lol. Rob Newport Beach, Ca
Hey Rob, so nice to read your great comment. You're right about the jeans being cuffed! As for my personal suit pants, it's a little twist we invented with my tailor Lorenzo Cifonelli in Paris: it's a "cut" with a little embroided "fly" (a lot of work by hand...). It used to be my signature pants (my goal was to find a way to show more of the beauty of my shoes). But now I favour a normal cuff. Cheers, Hugo
Hi Hugo. I love the ‘polo’ shirt you were wearing. My tailor made one for me recently, very similar, a light flannel polo type shirt but with a collar and cuffs so it’s nice and casual but neat at the same time. Very inspiring to see someone as sophisticated as yourself wearing one. Also thanks for the Bing Crosby story. I knew what a Canadian Tuxedo was but had never heard that story before.
I’ve wanted this video for as long as I’ve been watching this channel! I love all your videos about bespoke suits and classical elegance, but I work in a place with a business casual + smart casual dress code where I could dress like this (at least in the winter; in the summer it’s so hot down here that sleeveless blouses are office-acceptable and the A/C barely averts heat sickness) - Thanks for this! What beautiful clothes!
Love your channel Hugo, thank you to Sonya and yourself and support from Wimbledon. I’m sure you’d like to know from where around the world your viewers come from.
@@SARTORIALTALKS And there's nothing wrong with that. My Quebecois grandmother has been bilingual most of her life and still hasn't lost her accent. I think it's charming. ☺
Very interesting episode, I have asked in the past if there may be some advcie in future episodes on casual dress - but still elegant and smart - no t shrts and trainers. :)
In the United States we tend to wear light blue jeans with boots or casual shoes (loafer style) and a light colored tweed sports jacket or sports jacket in general. Of course we are much more casual when it comes to jeans and dress, but I love the elegance and sophistication of your style.
I already said it in your suit collection video, and I will say it again. The denim suit looks amazing, and my next suit is going to be a denim suit (I have yet to decide all the details I want for it, but I really like yours).
I am just getting back into jeans and I too prefer a dark wash. BTW Nudie Jeans have some models made in Italy. I have a pair. In the first look, I think you are much more handsome in just the jean and sweater. For me, I like to dress up jeans with a dress shirt and no tie; the jeans makes it more acceptable to have no tie and you dress up the jeans but dress down the shirt. Yin Yang. Thanks for the Canadian shout out. :)
This inspires me even more to step up my turtle neck + jacket game and also to get this kind of grey jeans, seems to be so versatile. I have only 2 pairs of jeans my self (black and classic blue and im under 30 yo, hah). Thank you for enlightning viewpoint mr. Jacomet and keep it up, best regards from small Finland!
@@SARTORIALTALKS Im happy to hear that you have good memories from your visit here in Helsinki - may I ask if you visit ”Schoffa” or ”Herrainpukimo”? This is home despite all of its quirks. I brought so much life with me from my 1 visit in Paris and I dream to go back asap.
I am late thirties, apparently, and have only owned a one pair of jeans, at a time, for a decade. It was all I needed, until I learnt to ride a motorbike. Then I bought another kevlar armoured pair, which still look much better than many of the jeans I see being worn by men today! I have never worn a jacket with jeans. It's something that was popularised in the UK from perhaps the 2000s, and became synonymous with the "Top Gear" look of Clarkson et al. Having said that, I wish most men wore a jacket and jeans, considering what they do actually wear. I usually wear other trousers and rarely wear my jeans. I find them somewhat uncomfortable, truth be told! Now I live on the continent, I feel a different attitude about jeans + jacket compared with back home in Britain. Perhaps I will try it. Wishing you, Sonya, and your family good health.
Good evening Hugo and Sonya, I hope you are both keeping safe and well? A great vid and subject matter, some amazing combinations for more of a casual look and why not may I say, I believe if thought about and put together correctly it can look fantastic, thank you so much for more great content forever greatly appreciated your friend Ryan.
Dear Dominic, I just ordered a pair of leather sneakers at my friend at Altan bottier in Paris. I don't wear sneakers very often, but I keep an open mind! Cheers, Hugo
With these outfits you are ready to do business in Texas here in the USA. It's interesting how US business fashion has changed in general. A lot of tech CEOs in California wear jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt.
Unfortunately yes, and the reason is simple: this is a new generation of CEO's who have been raised in the Nike culture. But the wheel is turning and now we have a new generation of young gentlemen who re-discover the pleasure of wearing a nice suit (because they choose to dress up instead of having to dress up like in the past). Cheers, Hugo
Fantastic episode. People are dressing down let’s face it. BTW you are still young! Not sure I could wear a literal Canadian Tuxedo; the jeans outfits look good.
Mr. Jacomet, What is your opinion on wearing white jeans with jackets? I find that with a high rise, the look is very favorable in the summer, but I’m interested in your opinion!
I think white jeans work well in the summer, especially with a nice Linen jacket. I've never tried white jeans personally, but white pants are a staple for summer anyway. All my best, Hugo
I pair jeans with jackets a lot. I love suits, but mostly I wear a jacket & jeans combination. It's extremely versatile. And you can wear both classic shoes & sneakers depending on your mood and needs
The Canadian Tuxedo is simply a pair of blue jeans with a denim jacket. Like Levi's top and bottom. It is a joke poking fun at how many men in Canada have nothing more formal than jeans, and wear the jacket along with when they want to "dress up." It is a slight pejorative, but since Canadians are good natured they take it in stride. I never heard the Bing Crosby story, and it sound apocryphal. In any case, good video and much help!
Dear Jan, I think the Bing Crosby is real, but honestly if it's apocryphal, who cares right 😂 ? And I love Canadians precisely because they are good natured. Amicalement, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Thanks for the response, and I love your channel. By the way, I've heard Canadians reference the "Tuxedo" they are famous for. They get the joke too.

What ever a Gentleman wares he must own it. Stand tall, shoulders back, head held high. Rules are guide lines. Being well dressed doesn't mean you have to look like all the other men.
Generally a soft shouldered (no roping) single breasted unlined jacket, Neapolitan cut such as Sartoria Solito in a coarse rough (Moons) Tweed/Cotton/Corduroy or Herringbone Linen will be ideal for wearing with Jeans.

@@SARTORIALTALKS And there's nothing wrong with that. My Quebecois grandmother has been bilingual most of her life and still hasn't lost her accent. I think it's charming. ☺
Thank you for this episode.
Lots of love from Amsterdam
With pleasure Arent! Greetings from Bourgogne-France. Hugo
Very interesting episode, I have asked in the past if there may be some advcie in future episodes on casual dress - but still elegant and smart - no t shrts and trainers. :)
Thanks Antonio. No tee-shirts for sure. Maybe a few leather sneakers in the future, but no trainers neither. Cheers, Hugo
I loved it!
Thank you for that video Monsieur Jacomet.
In the United States we tend to wear light blue jeans with boots or casual shoes (loafer style) and a light colored tweed sports jacket or sports jacket in general. Of course we are much more casual when it comes to jeans and dress, but I love the elegance and sophistication of your style.
Thank you sir for this interesting comment and for sharing your experience. All my best, Hugo
I already said it in your suit collection video, and I will say it again. The denim suit looks amazing, and my next suit is going to be a denim suit (I have yet to decide all the details I want for it, but I really like yours).
Thank you Tokiomi and all the best with your denim suit! Hugo
The denim suit and accessories... I think its fantastic!
Thanks Francis! Hugo
Love Hugo's smoking jacket. I have been looking for one "off the rack" or made to measure.
Dear John, I think you can find them quite easily these years. Cheers, Hugo
Thank you so much Santtu and have a great night in Suomi (I've been once in Helsinki, and it's a rather good memory). Cheers, Hugo
Thank you Martinfor sharing your thoughts and experience on the subject, and please stay safe. Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
Thank you Ryan for your kind words. Cheers my friend, Hugo
Those jeans are gorgeous! I'm a huge Levi's fan and it's my normal. But I think those are nice for a dressier occasion.
Beautiful presentation. I loved it :)
A combination that I often get many compliments on is a dark jeans with wool high neck a derby shoes and a wool overcoat 💁♂
That's a good combination indeed! Cheers, Hugo
I love Hugo's style.
Always classy. Would you do a video on sneakers or is that not up your alley?
Dear Dominic, I just ordered a pair of leather sneakers at my friend at Altan bottier in Paris. I don't wear sneakers very often, but I keep an open mind! Cheers, Hugo
Sir would you be kind enough to tell me what beautiful designer is this beautiful blue jacket that you are wearing ..thank you
With these outfits you are ready to do business in Texas here in the USA.
Cheers, Hugo
love this video! Need more like these topics !
Thank you John, we'll do our best to satisfy our fantastically loyal audience. Cheers, Hugo
@2:30 those black on black shoes. I think I'm in love 😍
I can relate to this! Cheers, Hugo
Fantastic episode. People are dressing down let’s face it. BTW you are still young! Not sure I could wear a literal Canadian Tuxedo; the jeans outfits look good.
Thank you my Captain, you're very kind with me (about my age). Cheers, Hugo
I will be 59 soon so trust me!
Also a pair of jacket & jeans look fantastic with turtle necks! Perfect choice for a cold weather in my opinion.
I agree. Hugo
Mr. Jacomet,
What is your opinion on wearing white jeans with jackets? I find that with a high rise, the look is very favorable in the summer, but I’m interested in your opinion!
I think white jeans work well in the summer, especially with a nice Linen jacket. I've never tried white jeans personally, but white pants are a staple for summer anyway. All my best, Hugo
I pair jeans with jackets a lot. I love suits, but mostly I wear a jacket & jeans combination. It's extremely versatile. And you can wear both classic shoes & sneakers depending on your mood and needs
Thank you for sharing your experience my friend. Best, Hugo
I just adore all your videos! When will we get the next Spotify/Deezer podcast? 🤗
Yes please, more of this!
Hugo, you are France's Next Top Model Top Model :) Dark jeans is a nice combination with a jacket. Cheers!
Surely not Davide 😂! Hugo
I started reading PG blog about right before you made a new, updated site. But I wanted to read the articles from the oldest one to the newest but now I can't. Is there any way that you could bring back showing articles by year?
Dear Kruno, just go to the main page article (the bottom one) and click on "view all" and you'll have ALL the articles of PG from the newest to the oldest. Best, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Yes but before it was a bit easier. You could just click a year and the articles would appear. But OK, the writing is always top notch and I will continue browsing.
Cheers
It was a great idea Hugo.
Thank You Hugo 😀😊👍🏼 Such Great Tips
You are very welcome Chris! Hugo
Thanks Hugo I’m 59 and you inspire and motivate me to pursue well dressed shoes jackets if I may ask what is your build height weight ? Once again Thank You
Good morning Andy. I'm 1m78 (5'10") for 77kgs (170 lbs), quite muscular (muscle memory from decades of work out). Cheers, Hugo
Thanks keep up the great work that you do.
thank you for always inspiring ...
All the pleasure is mine Leonardo! Hugo
Hugo, can you please tell me amount of ounces of the Canadian denim suit? thank you.
What ever a Gentleman wares he must own it. Stand tall, shoulders back, head held high. Rules are guide lines. Being well dressed doesn't mean you have to look like all the other men.
Indeed, posture is often forgotten. Hugo
Can you wear a suit jacket with a jeans? Or the jackets that are worn with the jeans specific?
Sports coats can indeed work with jeans. Cheers, Hugo
Excellent advice! How can I order the spectator shoes?
Dear Vincente, follow this link: www.tlbmallorca.com/categories/73
Cheers, Hugo
Generally a soft shouldered (no roping) single breasted unlined jacket, Neapolitan cut such as Sartoria Solito in a coarse rough (Moons) Tweed/Cotton/Corduroy or Herringbone Linen will be ideal for wearing with Jeans.
Dear Ian, I know the Solito family very well. Great people and talented artisans. Cheers, Hugo
Yes they come to London a lot even during these troubling times in between lockdowns, and I know they go to the USA and New York!
Thank you Mr.Hugo, another great video. May I ask how to choose the first double breasted sport jacket except navy.A brown one or ?
Dear friend, go for a grey one (whatever the shade). cheers, Hugo
Well done 👍
Ferez-vous un épisode sur les chino?
PS : une vidéo succulente comme d'habitude
Cher Matthieu, je pense plutôt faire une vidéo sur les pantalons en général. Amicalement, Hugo
13:05 - this put a smile on my face 😂👍
I like to put smiles on faces! Cheers, Hugo
Hugo is 1000% typical Frenchman because of his accent and physical features. Allez monsiuer Hugo! Allez France!
Appreciate a lot 🙂🙂!!! You are really passionate
Hey thanks a lot ! Hugo
The Canadian tuxedo blew my mind. Hugo doesn’t look a day over 50!
Is there a way to pair tweed with denim jeans? Most of the suits I have are made of tweed.
Dear Andrew, I believe Tweed jackets works pretty well with denims. Try it! Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Tweed works particularly well with jeans given its rough texture. Maybe better than a traditional blazer in my view.
That polo is dope!
