John of Gaunt, not just a nobleman, but 3rd son of King Edward III, ancestor of all English monarchs 1399 0nward, all Scottish monarchs 1437 onward, and "also one of the wealthiest men to have ever lived. Taking into account inflation rates, John was worth a modern equivalent of $110 billion, making him the sixteenth richest man in history" wikipedia
The main aspect would be its water defences in the form of the mere. Whereas many castles were surrounded by a moat, this was a huge artificial lake (reservoir) surrounding it on the two flattest sides, and inspired others elsewhere (e.g. Bodliam). Then of course there's Robert Dudley and his massive upgrade of the castle for the Queen's visit - sadly for him, she refused to marry him (or anyone else - that would have entailed giving up the throne and letting hubby run the country as King!)
@@magnussankaran1097 Castles are cool. Much cooler than international relations although that is super interesting. The reformation is probably second up from castles. Can you tell I like history in general? Medieval history is best.

kenilworth is great. apart from an infestation of cars, and thousands of easyjets from birmingham airport going over. we need an oliver cromwell to sort things out.

Hey you might want to go back to Mr. Dan Snow and challenge John of Gaunt's work on this castle .. .. knowledgable sources tell me that King Henry V did most of that building and did ,, in-fact ,, make it his home.. .. Other monarchs would tell you that they did NOT spend much time there .. .. as it was a fort!!
this is gonna help me for my exam tomo

That damn Oliver Cromwell, destroyed most of England's most beautiful castles! How could you do that to such a beautiful castle?
Tintagel castle
thats nothing to what Henry VIII did to the monesteries.
War
He wasn't all bad you know
history is rife with the stench and the wonder of change....
So enjoyable to walk around the walls, visit the ruins and then stroll around the gardens remembering the words of Dan Snow
Great place with a cracking pub opposite.Spent many hours here.
Many hours in the pub? Or in the castle.
Always loved Kenilworth Castle, but always wished someone would rebuild it to its former glory. It would be magnificent.
My town :) love walking around here on a rainy day
