@@velcroman11 Yes we do. We need to take an activist role by being involved in community bands and busking on street corners. I was a US Army Bandsmen. I actually played trombone but a tuba buddy of mine and I would sit in a gazebo in a downtown park in Colorado Springs and play tuba and euphonium duets. We would dress up in our Nordic cross country ski outfits. We called ourselves "Sven and Eric, the Plumber Brothers". We did have a hat out for donations. We usually got enough money to get beer and pizza afterward. It was just fun.
The euphonium makes the moste beautiful sound of all the brass insturments. This rendition of Pearl Fishers duet by David and Robert Childs proves it without a doubt. I've been playing the euphonium for 71 years and still going strong playing in three diferent bands.
I've had to hand my euphonium in after I quit the band I was in. It's been over 2 years and I still miss her every single day. This is one of my most favourite pieces in the world and I often come back here to listen to it. Some day I'll be able to afford one and when that day comes I'll play it like there's no tomorrow
Euphonium is the perfect duet/solo instrument because it is the most human sounding instrument aside from the human voice. these guys make it almost feel like they're singing through the horns and it's beautiful
I know that feeling, friend. I played trumpet for two years and was dreadful at it. My teacher finally realized my lips were just too big and my embouchure was never right. I switched to euphonium in 8th grade and never looked back. It's been 9 years and now I got my degree in music education and I'm teaching lots of little aspiring euphonium players! :)
I was given my first euphonium in 1965 by Western Suburbs Police and Citizens Boys Club. The eupho was engraved "Manly Municipal Brass Band 1915". Thank you Manly Municipal Brass Band for donating the instrument. I wonder where it is today in 2017. Naturally I have my own eupho now. I hope it is still being played, now at 102 years old.
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful piece of music. I am a woodwind player, but thoroughly enjoy ALL instruments in the hands of very proficient people! Euphoniums, like the baritone horn, are underrated in their ability to produce haunting, intoxicating melodies. And what a joy to play with your dad on this wonderful piece of Bizet's brilliance! In later years, David will cherish these videos as he cherishes these moments now.
Bizet really strikes a chord with me.. I weep everytime I hear this peice.. the backstory of two friends maintaining loyalty over love is rendering to the heart. It also reminds me if my dad.. rest in peace xx
FABULOUS. My very first boyfriend played Euphonium and I accompanied him on the piano "Weber's Last Waltz" by William Rimmer. He was runner up in Gt.Britain Youth Championship in 1966 or 67.
I saw this.. It was in Swansea, Wales... On a televised 'Proms in the Park', on BBC .. Brilliant, simply brilliant... What a wonderful evening it was... You might even hear me 'whoopin' right at the end... Fantastic memories thanks for posting it @welshcoll2004, you are a star... :0)x
My father and grandfather used to play this. My father and grabdfather were multiskilled in the world of brass. I wish I'd heard them play. An absolutely beautiful piece showcased by the Childs men stunningly.
I love playing Euphonium just wish I could get a tone to match this,we are playing it at a festival next week but no where near this tone. Beautifully played.
Right?!? They sound gorgeous!! When I discovered this family of euphonium players(Robert, Nicholas, and David Childs) I fell completely in love with their sounds!!! It’s soooo lush and velvety. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I had the pleasure of watching this concert live in Swansea, South Wales as par to the Proms on BBC one... Near the end you can hear 'I hope' a very loud 'whoop whoop'... it's me... :0)x The Child's family are all musically talented, all sound absolutely fantastic and my husband who is a 'Euph' player loves the.em just as much as me. He loves his Euph and Trombone too! HAPPY MEMORIES chaps, thankyou 'Welshcoll2004' for posting this gem... :0)x
absolutely amazing, it would have been an honor to be in the crowd that day listening to this masterpiece, hope they realized their luck :) I'll be there whenever you come to Dublin ;)
This is the one and only instrument that I had played in my elementary/secondary school bands. Played the same instrument for over 5 years and never looked back.
So very beautiful. Great set of chops on these 2 guys. Heard this played the other day by trombone and tuba and can't get it out of my head. Now want to get the music and find a partner to play with.
This is beautiful. Enough said. Im an Euphonium player and this guy ^^^ (Daivd childs) is my role model and I would do anything in the WORLD to be as good as him. But i still have time to go, im only a freshman. (: Our school band is goig to Carnegie Hall in March! this will be a wonderful experience. (:
Beautiful sound, excellently played by both of you, Dave. Just enjoyed the Brass Festival at Skegness and already looking forward to next year. Hope you will both be there and play once again. :)
Just about the most beautiful duet in all of opera, and how magnificent on the mellow-voiced euphoniums (euphonia? I never took Latin). Name of the instrument means "sweet sound." Since euphonium is a tenor instrument, can't help wondering how the baritone part of the vocal duet would sound on tuba. Also...whether British or American English, love to hear it well-spoken, so happy when emcee says, "...AS you've never heard it before," not "...LIKE you've never..."
Love these guy's True Pro's! I've just started playing Euphonium again after over a 30 year break, Started back after my young daughter got involved with a local Brass Band, she's packed in, but I've stayed, only major problem is It's taking ages to get my lip back. and I'm spending about an hour a day practising
I remeber playing this with my local fanfare band, the arrangement for that puts the flute melody as euphonium solo... still remember how bad my lips were feeling after that :-P
A valve is the piping on the Euphonium. The euphonium has 3-4 valves. Every one of them has a different sound. combined together they make more musical notes. Its where the soloist or player has thier hands. The shafts in the film are the actual valves. I've been playing Euphonium for about 7 years, and David is good.
Woah. I've been playing an eophonium for only a year in a brass band and to be honest I couldn't stand the instrument (wasn't my choice first choice). But when I listen to this... The most beautiful sound from all brass instruments...
I dunno what it is about us. I'm a trumpet player too. I love the sound of these instruments. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it more than trumpet but it's definitely an instrument I plan on learning to play before I die.
The mouthpiece actually has a black accent coloring on the outside. It came with the old York euphoniums that had black accents on it. Take a close look at the valve caps of David's euphonium and you will be able to see. Cheers.
dear God. i never liked the euphonium until now. i play sax and have never considered brass, but this kinda makes me want to switch. these guys are incredible.
Dear god..... I'm a trumpet player but I've been wanting to switch to euphonium because I just love how they sound compared to trumpet This just makes me want to switch even more
all i gotta say is they put a pretty penny into those euphoniums...generally the more they cost, the nicer they sound and they definately have top of the line...ahh such a nice souuuund!
I think you may be mistaken. Take a look again - I think the reason he keeps looking to his left is to keep an eye on the conductor rather than the camera!
We euphoniums REALLY need to start getting more recognition. Especially here in the States.
Ryan McDaniel ن Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes a thousand time more!

i cry a bit everytime i see this. a beautiful duet shared by father and son. wish my dad knew how to play euphonium

Absolute perfection. One of my favourite arias too.

Great! I play the Euphonium in my school band in Japan.I wanna be like them.
I bet they put their heart into this. Not very often a father and son can do something like this

I play euphonium in my wind ensemble, and i think i'm pretty good, but these guys are the most amazing i've ever heard
Back in 1985 Robert gave me a few lesson never forget it
... i started playing flute... one year later switched to the euphonium, NOT a single regret lol
Ya. I was thinking along the lines of that. It isn't easy like you said.
Same here bud! Greatest decision I've ever made! Cheers!
I play euphonium. When my wife heard this she asked,"What instrument is playing this. It's gorgeous!" How humbling.
hah! good chap!

Get really good in Euphonium! It's worth it, it's such a fun instrument to play!
you still play euphonium?

It's perfect.
Robert looks so elegant when he plays

Dear god.....
I'm a trumpet player but I've been wanting to switch to euphonium because I just love how they sound compared to trumpet
This just makes me want to switch even more
The definition of euphonium it
@TehAxg It's a Denis Wick 4-AL with black nickel plating everywhere except the rim.
all i gotta say is they put a pretty penny into those euphoniums...generally the more they cost, the nicer they sound and they definately have top of the line...ahh such a nice souuuund!

Dave Childs Yes of cause he is but only another bandsmen would see this.
Uffff que sonido tan hermoso ❤️
I play on a 642, which is practically the same horn, just slightly smaller bore and bell. But my 642 is excellent, beautiful rich tone and response.
