I love the subtle geometry of the red cymbal's bell. You can clearly see that the shape was carefully honed with tonal consistency in mind, attention paid to preserving the cymbal's overwhelmingly dry quality. And then to top it off with hammering so delicate that most trained eyes would be hard pressed to find the hammer's witness marks. Truly, this is the work of an artist

It's basically just a tapping noise, the rhythm is good but the actual sound isnt too far off something like tapping your nails on a desk. Still a nice vibe tho.
this is what I love about music, a lot of things don't sound great by themselves but once you combine them with different things you can do a lot of things that are just borderline magic.
You should start a weekly series where you drill holes into random junk and test their prowess as cymbals. Just imagine, scrap car metal, a large food plate, the microwave glass plate, a tambourine, an LA Ice plastic bottle, the possibilities are endless!
I kinda want a company to make actual functional cymbals that look like stop signs and shit of that nature. Get me some hi-hats that look like hub caps while we’re at it.
Just have this stop sign for the end of the set. Refuse to hit it until the final note of the set where you scream STOP, hit he sign, and everyone throws tomatoes at you.
The best part is that it doesn't even sound bad. It just doesn't sound, at all. I can barely hear it when other parts of the drum set are playing. The sound doesn't change when different parts are hit. What little there even is to begin with.
The transition from 0:47 to 0:55 is like going from a nice decent walk through Adelaide City and then one thing happening to you that ruins your good mood for the rest of the walk.
I was not expecting it to sound like just tapping on cardboard- like, it is flat as the horizon sound wise and as loud as snapping your fingers underwater… and I love it XD
That first bonk had me rolling on the floor. I do feel like something that makes that bonk sound could be a cool effect cymbal to have as part of a kit, just not replacing the ride.

I'd suggest trying out sawblades! A local austrian band called Wolfram and The Funeral Orchestra use those as cymbals and it's so odd, would love to hear your thoughts on that 😆

I will admit I was surprised how flat the stop sign sounded, I didn't think that stuff they put on it would affect it so much. Fantastic video. EDIT: Upon rewatching I have decided it is a practice ride cymbal!

My favorite unconventional "cymbal" is a galvanized steel trash can lid. Putting it on a stand isn't an option (because it's ungainly and tips any stand I've tried to put it on) so I drove a screw into the rafter above my kit and hung it using a piece of clothesline.
