Former President Donald Trump recounted the assassination attempt that nearly killed him during his Republican National Convention acceptance speech in Milwaukee on Thursday night.
“I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” said a somber Trump, with a bandage covering his right ear, which was nicked by a bullet. “As you already know, the assassin’s bullet came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life.”
“I stand before you by the grace of almighty God,” Trump told the said before approaching and kissing the fire chief’s helmet of Corey Comperatore, who was killed in the shooting by Thomas Crooks in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, during a campaign rally Saturday.
“As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny. We rise together. Or we fall apart,” said Trump on the eve of the eighth anniversary of his first nomination for the presidency.

The 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will wrap up on Thursday night, and former President Donald Trump will take center stage on the final night of the RNC. The theme of Thursday’s final day will be “Make America Great Once Again,” with Trump laying out what his campaign calls his vision for “a new golden age for America.”
In addition to former President Trump, his son Eric Trump is also expected to address the convention on Thursday night.
Ohio Senator JD Vance, Donald Trump's newly minted running mate, will make his national debut on Wednesday as he delivers a prime-time address on the third day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Donald Trump Jr, the former president's son and a close friend of Mr Vance, is expected to speak before Mr Vance's wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, introduces the Republican vice-presidential nominee.
As Mr Vance steps into the national spotlight, here are three things to look out for in his speech.

The 2024 Republican National Convention is an event in which delegates of the United States Republican Party will select the party's nominees for president and vice president in the 2024 United States presidential election. It is scheduled to be held July 15 to 18, 2024, at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who had been considered a potential vice presidential pick, said in a post on X that Vance’s “small town roots and service to country make him a powerful voice for the America First Agenda.”
