- Check in on the giant bowl of Sarracenia purpurea that we cut back in January. Here it is with its first flush of spring leaves.

They are such a nice color. 🌱
What a pretty pot of plants, those flowers are very cool looking
This looks very familiar! I am very lucky to live in Ohio and have this growing naturally in our bogs. I just found out a few years ago we have such carnivorous plants! Great video.
I keep mine on because the pitchers last 2 years.
I’m so I’m so confused on which kind I actually have
Why do the pitchers on mine stay small? They are in a 10in wide and tall pot.
It can be a few factors, it could be age, amount of bugs it’s catching, or sunlight. Are you growing it indoors or outside? Has it gone dormant?
@@California_Carnivores Growing outside for the 10+ years I've had it. Goes dormant every year.
@@EarthsGeomancer Hmmm 🤔 I’d recommend repotting every few years to reduce minerals and salts from building up in the pot. And fertilizing the leaves and into the pitchers with diluted Maxsea fertilizer once a month to give them a boost. We also make sure to overhead water these several times a week or month (depending on how hot it is) as they need that water to fill their pitchers.
They are the only native types to the NJ area. Interesting plants
I just got my first CC baby today. My Sarracenia arrived perfectly packaged and happy. And the bonus of another Dionaea for my collection. Thanks a ton folks.
Yay! Happy growing! 😆
For some reason my local garden center had Sarracenia purpurea going for 50 dollars in the aquatics section. The plants looked good, but that price, wtf!? Nope! I bought a water lily for my pond instead.
I have a big purpurea and it was only 10$ and basically when I got it it started growing fast. From my garden center. 50$ though is a lot for a purpurea.
That’s a lot for a plant like that, unless it was a special clone or site location, which seems really unlikely!
