  • www.flippingfifty.com/5dayflip A 20-minute workout enough exercise? It's not the message you've been given for decades. Women over 50 have been told for 30 or more years to do more, more times a week, longer, harder, and or all of the above.
    Wrong, wrong, wrong.
None of the messages you got have been about research based on exclusively YOU.
Position statements and guidelines are based on men and women of all ages. Even newer recommendations for "older adults" do not take into consideration hormone differences of women - whether women in menopause, women post natal, women far past menopause... your needs change.
Your needs most definitely do not mimic mice, men, or even young women.

Make short workouts work for you by assessing your:
current hormone status (how you feel tells you all)
current day's or week's exercise or sedentary activity
    current injuries or conditions
Focus on major muscle groups not silly little small ones.
Do a full body workout: you don't have the hormone status to make long full body part workouts do anything but throw you under the bus because they have to be much longer to be enough stimulus.
Reach muscular fatigue every single exercise.
(warm up and cool down: you're going to go hard!)
Women in menopause already know they can do hard things. Look back for a minute! Apply that to your exercise!

Never considered that perspective. I love walking every day as the ultimate mood booster. And the strength training serves my long term goals to be an active fit grandmother to the someday, Lord willing, grandkids. This was helpful. I grew up in Iowa, too. I sure hope you got to take the memory lane walk.

You look great! Let me correct it: you are looking younger, healthier and stronger than ever. I will have to check it your website and make 20 minutes worth it when exercising.

What is your recommendations for the amount of daily protein women over 50 should have? My doctor seem to be confused about it.

Please add closed captions for deaf viewers. That would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

I am 51 5 2 and 154.8 this morning struggling big time with my weight. I work out and average 4 days a week. I use You-tuber Sydney Cummings. Was wondering if that is what I should be doing at 51. I like the fact that she had a new video everyday. I need the structure. I have weights 2-20 lbs. I need something new and different everyday. The same gets old fast for me. I need constant change in my workouts or I will not do it. HELP PLEASE.
