On top of the acting in the scene, the way the camera work was done in some of these parts made me think Mayborne was going to burst out of the bushes and dig up the guns Jack hid.
i think he did take them later in the episode, so he must have been watching jack from somewhere as he was hiding them
...he did. That was the point.
This is why i never want to get trapped anywhere with someone else. Suddenly one of you starts to go kooky, and then you have to deal both with your own survival and trying to make sure that they don't kill you in your sleep or something. Would much rather just get stranded alone. At least then the only threats i have to worry about are those from nature itself.
except this episode is all about how being with jack was the only thing that saved maybourne's life.
I think it's fair to say, that a guy who immediately drinks water straight from a pond, munches on toxic plants, and hunts boars with grenades, would not last very long (and there would be no rescue mission).
Have you not seen Castaway or Passengers? Being stranded alone for long periods can make you lose your mind…..
Maybourne gets very crackheadish in this one.

To be fair, logically speaking there is no reason to not give mayborn the gun. At this point they are allies on an alien world. Jack was only right to not give him a gun bc he went crazy from the plants
Well Maybourne has double-crossed Jack on multiple occasions. Really Jack has no reason to trust him with a pocket knife, let alone a gun. If i were Jack i'd probably keep Maybourne tied up to a pole or something and only occasionally untie him to let him use the lavatory at gunpoint with his hands tied. When he needs to eat i'd just feed him myself. Beats having to worry about him pulling some shit.
