I know there are different brands, but I tried to use the two different "types."
One scene I had to cut: These can be extra jarring if you walk a lot on concrete (sidewalks etc). Some of them come with an extra insole to help cushion this.
Someone asked me to clarify my conclusion on "which is better and are they worth it?"
That's totally fair and I'll paste my response below!
I made it more subtle because the answer is that it "depends on the person." I would get the sneaker-looking ones if you want the barefoot feel without really looking that way. I'd get the shoe glove ones if you like the idea of shoe gloves and the fashion statement that comes with it. As for the second part, I think they're worth trying at least once, but there are DEFINITELY going to be some people who dislike them and others who love them. We usually don't stick with shoes forever, so my opinion is that trying them once can really let the individual know if these work for them. Otherwise, there's nothing in a review that can really replace that. Hope that makes sense!
The downside of these Reels and Shorts is that sometimes I'd like to elaborate more - sorry for any confusion!

@@SMJSelenaI wouldn't say that. The humor for instance is quite different. While with David the humor most of time stems from his silly non-stop motion and is thus pretty high energy, Hampton often goes out of his way to to manufacture and place little jokes in his videos which are sometimes even easily missed. So it's more low-key.
What they both have in common is the positivity of course and giving you the impression that being capable of movements like them would be a ton of fun.

    • @SMJSelena
      @SMJSelena 10 месяцев назад +10

Yeah, I'm not saying they're the same, but I always felt like the stay flexy guy had a unique way of talking and yet somehow this guy has very similar intonation, tone and pronunciation whilst also talking about the same things. Could be a coincidence but I immediately thought that he seems like a watered down version of the flexy guy.

    • @lonestarr1490
      @lonestarr1490 10 месяцев назад +32

@@SMJSelena I mean, the vibe is similar. But I wouldn't say they have the same way of talking. While David is always completely clear to me, I sometimes have a hard time understanding Hampton. He tends to speak a little too quitely and a little too fast at the same time, sometimes asking a little too much of my non-native ear. His way of expressing himself strikes me as more introvert, while David is more outgoing, more like, "Hey! Look at that cool new thing I can do! And you can learn it, too!" You really hear the exclamation marks when he's talking.
I mean, I can see where you're coming from. They give off a similar kind of energy. No wonder so many people are calling for a collab. But I wouldn't go so far as to call either one a copy cat or whatever. I think they simply cater to the same kind of audience: people who would like to get fit or into reasonable shape, but can't stand the mindset of the usual RUclips body building content, where everything is about self-improvement and purpose and struggle and what not. With those two the focus is more on self-fulfillment, fun and the simple joy of movement and a healthy physique. It's wholesome and thus---at least for me---a lot more motivating.

i dont wear shoes at home anyway so the first day wasnt bad. the next couple days i had soreness in my calfs and the palm part of my feet( the pad right before your toes). not horrible but i definitely felt the difference.
the soreness went away after like a week n a half, two weeks. i didnt do much moving around so i wasn't straining anything too bad.
i started trail walking/jogging after those 2 weeks, soreness in similar places came back and in new places, like my previously pretty non existent arch(i think its starting to form again) and ankles. i apparently have weak ankles and hope that continued trail running will strengthen them.
found that gravel trails or even slightly pebbled ones were a hard no, hurt like hell just carefully walking on it. i didnt have the inserts in, that probably would have alleviated the uncomfortableness. the dirt paths were perfect though(still have to watch oht for random things and tree roots).
i even went out after a rain. i never minded mud before but it was nice to feel it on my feet without getting dirty. you can feel the softness. and the parts of the ground that were solid but spongey feel SO good on your feet. the shoes definitely arent waterproof, but my feet got less wet than i thought theyd be.
im ordering other shoes with big toe boxes like NoBull so i hope tht goes well.

I LITERALLY just bought some five fingers this week and they arrived before I saw this 😂
Here’s an unsponsored review no one asked for: Vibram Five fingers V-Treks are amazing BUT! I find these hard to fit the most out of all the barefoot shoes I’ve worn. They’re gloves for toes. Unfortunately that means the toes are a set shape, so if you have different, uneven/unique shaped feet, these will likely not fit you. I have big toes that are on the larger size and longer than my other toes, so when I picked a size it was based off the inside foot measurements from heal to big toe. The big toe pockets only JUST fit my toes, and the four little toe pockets are all too big lmao. So when I scrunch my toes they all pop out of their pockets quite easily.
If I could customise the toe shapes, I would keep them. The soles are immaculate. I feel and look like some kinda science fiction creature lizard person. And they’re quite comfortable.
Summary: if you have unique toes maybe reconsider Five fingers.

It took me at least a few months to get used to walking with shorter strides and get rid of the habit of heel-striking. It took the best part of a year to start feeling really comfortable. After all, undoing the effects of 35 years of conventional shoe-wearing will not be a quick endeavour.

From what I've heard is that if you decide to wear barefoot shoes (I have been for some time), it's that you must take it slow to ease your feet into this new feel. If you go consecutive weeks wearing them every day and walking or running a lot, you could injure yourself. For me, I could feel it after wearing it for a few days out of the week, walking back and forth to classes. Remember you most likely have been wearing normal heavily padded shoes for decades now. Your feet and joints aren't accustom to this kind of direct stress hitting your feet. You gotta literally learn to kinda walk again before you can run comfortably.

My five fingers help my feet which have slight hammer toe from back when I used to wear normal shoes. My family has wide muscular feet. Even me who isn't a large guy I have very strong feet that are wide. It helped me keep the toes feeling comfortable and my arch feeling good because the foot wasn't cramped. I use thin ones. I can sprint in them pretty well and jog mid foot on them very well on the right surfaces. (They're not meant for concrete I've gotten knee pain doing concrete and it's gone when I switched) . But on good surfaces it's awesome. Especially dirt or trails or hills. And I've lifted in them too. My feet are able to balance way better on a flat area and they're super light as you walk around. I wear zero drop boots now too outside of these so if you're going minimalist you need lots of practice. If you're not running in them, walk a lot in them. Walking in my boots helped me a ton and even made my shin muscles and ankles super strong without any extra exercise. It took a lot of practice and strengthening to be able to sprint in the vibrams very fast (forefoot strike with hard, fast repeats or intervals), but it's possible with the right training. Do it right and vibrams can make your legs and feet wicked strong.

A lot of people just chooses shoes that are wide enough, so your foot is not squeezed. It maybe doesn't give you the feeling of walking barefoot, but it doesn't malforme your foots. In short, shoes have to be comfortable in the first place.

Sneakers are also nice for walks or more sporty activities.

I've worn Sockwa and Xero brand minimalist shoes. I started wearing them at my chiropractor's recommendation, and he recommended them because he had noticed a lower incidence of back problems when he worked in areas that wore more sandals or where people are more likely to go barefoot. After looking into it he found a podiatrist that agreed with him, and started recommending minimalist shoes. I like the feeling of the Sockwas, but like the Vibrams you tried, they are less recognized as shoes in some places (I wouldn't be allowed to wear the Vibram Five Finger shoes to work in the hospital, for instance). The Xeros also work well for me. My only complaint about minimalist shoes is that you are very aware if you put your foot down on something, especially early on, and if you don't get a waterproof variety, you end up with wet socks much easier than you do with standard tennis shoes because there's less sole keeping you out of the puddle

As someone who's worn multiple pairs of xero shoes for several years now, I highly recommend that you take it slowly -- like really slowly, especially if you're going to start trying to run in barefoot shoes. you have to transition super gradually or you're going to hurt your feet. It's like if you were in a coma your whole life with an atrophied body and then you try to get up and start running, That's what it's like when you've been wearing cushioned and restricting shoes your whole life and then switch to barefoot. But anyway I love them and I also second that if you're walking on concrete a lot you may need some more cushion.

I actually bought my first pair of „barefoot style“ winter boots this year. They still have an almost 1 cm sole tho, so the transition wasn’t that crazy.
The main benefit for me is just how WIDE they are! I wear a size 37/6.5/4 but with a width of 11 cm (or 4.3 inches), which is borderline nonexistent (I am very lucky they still make safety shoes in that size). And I just couldn’t deal with another year of cramming my feet into too narrow and stiff winter boots, so I looked into other options.
The generally wider toe box and less pointed shape mixed with the way the thin material conforms to my foot makes all the difference. If you‘re a wide foot Andy like me, give them a try!!! There are many options nowadays.
I‘m also pretty confident that my wide ass feet won’t rip them apart after a season, which is a nice bonus

I have flat feet and I remember I got arch support insoles when I was 13, when using them, it made the numbness of my feet worse and the arch of my feet was killing me from standing for a few minutes. It was so uncomfortable. Now I’ve gotten used to my flat feet, and don’t see it as a issue. Now, I don’t know if not using the insoles would become a bigger problem in the future or if it was a bad choice, but I really do feel more comfortable being flat footed with flat shoes with a bigger size for more space around the arch and toes. Occasionally, my heels do burn after standing or walking over 10 hours, but it’s tolerable and I’m sure it’s the same for most people after a long day of walking/running or working.

I slowly got used to shoes with an arch because I have weak ankles and can't be wearing flat shoes for too long without heel pain and ankle pain. I even have sandles and flip flops with arches in them and I cannot wear flat shoes unless it's for a short amount of time. My feet aren't as flat as they used to be since I've had arches in my shoes for years but for some reason one foot is now more arched than the other so I have it get specially made arches.

They are awesome and you can get ones with slightly thicker soles (like 5mm). Just make sure they are zero drop shoes, that is the important thing. And make sure they are wide enough!
People buy way too narrow shoes. Tips especially are ridiculous in most shoes, our feet aren't pointy at all. Nice wide toebox makes your feet feel so much more comfortable.
There are so many BF shoes nowadays that you can find ones for every occasion. I have black leather ones for parties for example, they look just like dress shoes but are actually comfortable.
