Back then, the world was in awe of the Dream Team, and basketball was nowhere near as popular as it is now. Countries couldn’t wait until their 40 point loss so they could get autographs from MJ and Magic. 30 years later and the world has not only just about caught up with the U.S., but they are no longer in awe. It’s the UCONN women’s basketball effect; force everyone to get better.

Bird retired immedietly after, Magic was pretty much out of the league. Well according to bull fans Michael Jordan was the only good player on the team. Then they say, oh well, Pippin was better than Tatum. Michael Jordan had the best team in history and Bill Russell won 11 Championships. I'm so tired of hearing about these older players that were one dimensional
Colin cannot make a decent basketball take even if he goes back in time multiple times. The amount of disrespect to the game, the dream team and the history of basketball grows exponentially. In 1992, every team was 30-50pts away from the dream team. Against today’s team, South Sudan was a couple of points away from victory. The 2024 is fully loaded no doubt but there’s some danger of losing. The 1992 team just demolished pretty much every team they faced. And of course Colin omits to mention players like Barkley, David Robinson, Karl Malone and a SG named Michael Jordan.

The dream team won an average of 50 points in the qualifiers and over 35 in the Olympics and it wasnt that close as the dream team was accused of bullying other teams. David Robinson, Drexler, Malone, Stockton. MJ and Pippen just locking down players of opposing teams so hard they were criticised for it. Everyone knew the dream team will get the gold, it was destined and all opposing players and coaches accepted this as fact. With the 2024 team usa you hope they will win.
You forget there was also significantly less international talent. Games will be a little closer now because a lot of European countries will have an NBA player on them who can help keep things close.

The reason that the dream team is even a thing is because the rest of the world were using the best players in their country and had started beating the US on the international stage. The US had only been using college players at the time, so they started using professional ball players because the rest of the world had already been using them. The US was playing catch up at the time.

Horrible take, players today are not as fundamentally sound as they were during the dream team era. Other than Curry, Booker and Durant, these team doesn’t shoot well. They are not better. They almost lost to a team with two NBA players. The MVP of the league can’t jump, but plays smart fundamental basketball.

But this was because other countries back then weren't that good, nowadays they take basketball far more seriously and are outdoing the US in it.
