It's definitely hard to continue reading when the character is tough to like. I do enjoy the trope of "protagonist is the only one without magic" and will check out this book on Goodreads. Thx for sharing!

ah, it sucks that you didn't vibe with it, but I respect that you gave it the 20%. It kind of sounds like the plot of Encanto where the one character is the one with no "magic" gift. Can't wait to hear about Worldcon!

Too bad you didn't like this one. Yes, kaneko can be a bit of a challenging character to "vibe with" (as you put it) early in the book. But, IMO, that's pretty typical of most coming of age stories. The character development of these types of stories is what drives them... And, IMO, by the end this story does deliver on that element.
I’m glad you enjoyed it :) as I say, it wasn’t for me but there’s always others who do enjoy books I don’t :)
