+NeonBlackHeartAttack yep! Clear resin is tricky, it looks great but it can be hard and expensive. This technique will give you good looking eyes either way :)
This is a really creative technique! I love realistic eyes but never liked the follow-me effect because, like you, I love the performing aspect of fursuiting/cosplaying and want it to be obvious where the creature is looking. I'll definitely give this a try. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. :'3
I've watched this 4 times, and I'm still amazed. These eyes are so unbelievably cool and realistic! The depth you created with the different colors and the sculpting is just incredible. The finished monster head is AMAZING. You are seriously talented!
amazing! thank you for this great explanation! and it is nice that you added an explanation about the difference between resin cast eyes with a flat back and these eyes :)
This is very old now but I’m making a puppet and wanted to use this method but was NOT having any luck with my technique. I just found this video and I can tell already that this is going to make it 100 times easier and overall better so thank you!
just would like to say... how in the world do you not have more subscribers?!? you have amazing techniques and have awesome vids! can't wait to see more tutorials or just vids on your costumes/creations :D
Great eyes and tutorial. If you wanted to actually see thru them, use a piece of lenses from sun glasses. I am working on see thru eyes for costumes and it works out great, especially if the costume eye is close to your real one.
Thank you for sharing. I am making a Claris (a mouse) costume for my daughter for book week and the eyes were the thing that I had no idea how to create. Your work looks amazing
Tiny Badger here on YT linked me to this from her recent dragon puppet. These are beautiful eyes. I started off wondering why you didn't just use acrylic cabuchons and a printed eye but then when the camera zoomed in on the head and the eyes ate the end and i saw the depth of detail that came through in just a video I didn't have to wonder. The depth of detail in person must be striking.
how do u see out of it?🤔 I love how you did the eyes and I will try that technique to I'm a young furry and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about making fursuits thank you so much for this inspiration😁
+rainbow wings with this technique you would have to have your vision come out of the mouth or have a mesh in the tear duct area(right next to the eye) of the suit right that you can see through
Kazplay Videos okay that's how I usually see out of mine is just when I seen Gray-Mane it looked like he had like in the tear ducts a little space to see but it looks a little too small to see if so I assume that maybe you saw the mouth of him he is really cool keep up the great work😁
If you don't have isopropyl myristate, you can use gentle heat from a heat gun or hairdryer for removing fingerprints from monster clay. If you're not careful it will melt the whole thing though.
Nice job, very creative. I sculpt busts and creatures out of clay and cast them or use super sculpey for smaller sculpts, not so much cosplay so it's really interesting to see the methods you guys come up with. I really like your wolf creature, the eyes and mouth are so cool.
Wow!! Thank you so so so much! Many artists spend lots and lots of time experimenting and finding techniques to make their work, and it means so much for you to share this with all of us. Thank you!💙💙keep up the amazing work :) you've got a new sub 😄
+Kiwipiwi you're very welcome! You can count on me sharing my findings because I want to help elevate the craft as a whole. Thank you very much for the sub!!
I sculpt and hope you don't mind if I add a tip. If you can't get any isopropyl myristate, lighter fluid or naptha works well. You have to let it sit for a few minutes before working with it so the clay dries.
Thank you so much for making this!!! I saw your suits on youtube and I found out it was you through Monoyasha. Again thank you so much and your work is awesome!!!
@@Cafanathaw the vision would be very poor, like looking through straws. You could make the eyes and pupils huge to help. I never like to say never so give it a try, but wouldn't recommend it.
you're not meant to see through the eyes, my Greymane cosplay had vision through the mouth. A common method to use with this method is called tear duct vision, you make an extra space and use a mesh in the tear duct area to see through
I just tried building my first head today. It didn't go so well. I'm thinking I might try what you do.. but now I'm trying to figure out how I'd look out of it XD
Thank you for sharing! I've loved watching your progress on Hogger, that's how I found you (on Twitter), and I've been looking through your backlogs since. I'll definitely have to try this technique out once I have reason to. For future reference, do you think white/other colors of craft foam could be used for the sclera? Or do you think it wouldn't work out/would show because of the black backing for the pupil? I could always try it out and let you know, haha.
+Fox Mulder I have done it with a off white/brownish sclera on a Lynx cosplay I made earlier this year and it worked well! I just painted the black foam (it wasn't too hard) you can use white or another color foam, just put a small piece of black fabric or foam just over the hole in the back before doing the whole sclera bit :)
Nope! you cannot see out of these eyes, you would have to use vision out of the mouth (as my greymane cosplay does) or use what is called tear duct vision
I have done that! It looks cool but can't be a little tricky getting rid of bubbles. I even added a tiny bit of white pigment to give my goatman eyes a milky blind look!
@@KazplayVideos OOOH I gotta check that out! Btw you've also saved my life. I was trying to figure out a unique way of pulling off this effect aside from doing that thing of just designing the eye on a halfway resin pour inside the mold, or using a printed design. This was so helpful!
Any suggestions on doing realistic or anime (not big doughy eyed but more like... maybe the bestials from Grimoire of Zero) eyes that have great ability to see through?
Thank you so much for sharing! i'm so grateful for your tutorials, it surely helps my life time passion and you're such an inspiration, love what you do. Please continue to make videos of your art and share it with us :)
I want to do a purple eye so when you recommend a metallic paint would a metallic silver do with purple because I don't think bronze would go good with purple
+Alice the dravern there are all sorts of metallic paints, I'm sure you could even find a metallic purple! Silver might work as well, you can test it out and let me know
Very cool!! Do you think it would be possible to replace the eyes on a latex mask with some like this? For reference, the mask I'd want to modify is the brimstone dragon mask if you want to google it
I haven't personally worked with latex masks, if you have a good way to attach it then it could work! I would probably recommend a smaller eye than what my kits are
There are a lot of similarities between this and painting gaming miniatures. Almost makes me wonder about adding a dark wash between the base coat and the dry brushing steps.
Yep! Washes would look great! My cheap acrylic paints don't handle them super well, so I don't use washes often, but I know it would add a lot of depth
Question. What kind of eye texture would I use to make the eyes look creepy and cartoonish because I'm trying to make a horror game that I'm still working on and I can't find a really good texture for some of the characters.
What's the best base for a realistic head? I heard foam was the best from a couple, sometimes people say resin, whatever, I just have no idea what to use to make it look the best and as realistic as possible
That base was made from resin. Its good to make realistic heads from, but I'm always disappointed in how heavy resin can get. I have been trying to make realistic heads from foam for the past couple years now
Well, the pupil is a hole to the hollow inside so no drilling necessary on the new version of my kits :) the resin is opaque white though so I don't think it would glow that much, but I'd love to see the results of your experiment!
Ok, ok, I know this is a cheesy question and it's pretty annoying but, I was wondering if you do commisions?also this will be a big help in the future for me.
FINALLY an eye tutorial that doesent require resin!!! XD
+NeonBlackHeartAttack yep! Clear resin is tricky, it looks great but it can be hard and expensive. This technique will give you good looking eyes either way :)
Exactly! Thank you!

How did it go? :3
After applying yellow I would clear coat and run dark colors into the scratches wiping off the excess.

definitely going to try my hand at these. there is so much detail in these eyes ^-^
Thank you for the beautiful, realistic eye tutorial!! This will make it much easier to make a fursuit or cosplay! : D

Kazplay Videos 100% agreed. Keep up the good work! Your videos are helping me with a foam and due cosplay of my own.
Thank you! I can remove the ugly ones from my fursuit and add these!
Great technique & simple!

You can also use acetone to smooth out the fingerprints.
Yes you can!
It's really cool and nice done

I love this. Man you're awesome and so talented. Wish I could make me a wolf costume like that 😍 Really love it.
Thank you!
Fascinating video. Need eyes for a robot that the eyes are servo motor activated. Your idea would work if I could find 25 mm half domes. 😊
Really awesome concise video. Thank you so much.
Just bought some globes, can’t wait to try these for my Halloween props! Do you have a tutorial on how you make his teeth?
I don't, but it was essentially just sculpting them, then casting them out of resin, then painting
You do beautiful work!
This is an excellent technique, thank you. Is there a way to make these eyes so you can see through them.?
@@Cafanathaw the vision would be very poor, like looking through straws. You could make the eyes and pupils huge to help. I never like to say never so give it a try, but wouldn't recommend it.
Thanks for the great tutorial!
Thanks! This will help my fursuit making!
Great idea used these domes before for many projects, I real like the depth you get, could these be used in a blinking eye puppet do you think?
Honestly I think it could work! Tiny1badger made a blinking puppet with chrismast ornaments
Waaaaay better than acrylic eyes. I use children's swim goggles for the lenses. But will use the globes.
Really amazing tutorial beautiful eyes the only concern I have is how well can you see through the eyes.

That's a good idea, I can revisit this tutorial
That is so cool, thank you! Especially for selling these!
You're welcome!
Nice fursuit and cool eyes its its beautiful

Amazing, how did you do the impression on the eye you did not use , looked like sponge texture ?
It's a beard stippling sponge. They should be easy to find now that spirit Halloween stores are open!
Just found this. Awesome!!
Can someone tell you how you see? Im thinking about buying or making a realistic fursuit but idk how you would see.
With these kind of eyes your vision would likely be out of the tear ducts or the mouth

Can we just do the clay part and add a glossy varnish without using chrismast ornaments?
You can give it a try, but I don't think it would give you the same effect

I do not do commissions, sorry! But glad this tutorial will help you
Love music in background
I feel finally home ..hellow monster family 😊
I love it!
What can i use besides the clear bulbs
Can I use polymer clay for this? I don't have monster clay and I do not know any craft store nearby me with monster clay
Yes, you can use polymer clay! If you use it then you can skip the step of making a mold and use your cooked peice directly in the eye :)
I have all these things at home, but I don’t have the clear ornament. Is there any alternatives? I can’t leave my house with the quarantine.
sorry for the late reply, I don't know any alternatives that are quite as easy, maybe a giant googly eye, but it wouldn't be quite the same shape
Amazing! But....
How do you see out of the head owo?
In this particular head the vision is out of the mouth
how do you see out of it if the eyes are solid? 030
sorry if that's a dumb question. I just stumbled upon this video.
You don't actually see out of the eyes, on this build you see out of the mouth :)
