New Trangia Frypan! I have wanted a frying pan with a folding handle for a very long time. I bought one a year or so ago, Vango. I had a little mishap with it (melted the handle off!). So whilst looking for a new one i found the titanium pans with the side folding handles, i ordered one from China, It should arrive in a few weeks. After ordering it i found this Trangia and liked it so much i bought it!
It is a great match to the Trangia Triangle.

Can’t believe you’ve got a trangia going cooking hot fat resting on a nice round log! OMG! Elfin Safety! 🔥😄
It’s a nice big pan, looks like a nice solid base, but I don’t like non-stick. I don’t trust it and like to always have the option of getting in there with wire wool!
Great video Paul. Interesting and fun as always! ATB, Mark.

You are correct about protecting the non stick surface of the pan from the handle, unfortunately I hadn't realised this and have a damaged area in the pan. Effectively rubbish now as it's not recommended to use non stick once damaged. I have given up with non stick, I now use anodised aluminium, titanium for ultra light weight (pot mainly very rarely use the fry pan) or when weight not an issue cast iron, my favourite.

For years I've been using cheapo skillets (frying pans) and detaching the handles- either unscrew or saw off- and just using a pot lifter/grabber/gripper as a handle. No gimmicks, nothing to melt off and you can't beat the price.

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft

Thanks for the review Paul. I had a cheap Wal-Mart folding frypan that was just rubbish. It was much too thin and the coating really wasn't non-stick at all. I upgraded to a MSR folding fry pan but that has a weird plastic button that locks the handle in place. Not that secure and it would likely melt on an open wood fire. The Trangia will be my next purchase.

  • @taber247

Yet other informative, entertaining, and enjoyable video, thanks Paul.
About to suggest the 25 chopping board to protect inside coating, and you would have a chopping board with you too: but of course you mentioned it.
I don't peel potatoes, Vitiman C in skin.!
Pity the folding handle does not fold under the base as the pan might then marry up with the 25 kit!
Doubtless more to come from you; I look forward to viewing them.
    Thanks again.
P.S. I have restrained from comments before, (seen stacks of your vids) keeping up must be very time consuming for you.

If properly maintained, that pan should serve you well. I have a couple of nonstick pans from IKEA, they work great, and heat up the food very quickly, with a low flame. Learning to cook with a low flame, is a plus, a good nonstick will help.

Thanks for the video. Does it fit on the Trangia 25?

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  4 года назад

I just tried it, it is a fraction too small as the pan curves to the bottom. It slips about on the pot holder.

Thanks Paul for your reply. Thought it might be a near thing. Just have to keep welding my food to the pan then😀. Do enjoy your videos - I learnt a lot. Thanks again.

Hi Paul. Just purchased one of these frying pans. Sent Tragia a msg as mine has very sharp finger cutting edges on the handle. Maybe a fake Chinese copy. Cheers from George and Jane 👎🤔

I'm sorry to hear that George. Mine isn't that bad that it could cut you.

The nonstick coatings aren't to my liking and I prefer a simple carbon steel skillet. Why nobody is making them widely available is beyond me.

I have heard that a lot of people don't like the non stick. These pans have really good non stick coatings and if used correctly will last a long time.

I am using them carefully but they still do not last longer than a couple of years. I am in the process of switching everything to cast iron.

Most people are too stupid and lazy to learn how to use them properly.
The non-stick is idiot proof for some time and buying new ones all the time is in the interest of the manufacturers anyway.

Great videos, I enjoy watching the cooking, however I can't understand how all these Y.tubers keep saying how good Trangia stuff is. I have bought quite a bit of Trangia stuff and think it's absolute garbage. Poor finishing, really thin cheap non-stick coating, and the 27 set does not go together very well at all, handle only just fits if you faff about trying different angles, and then add the utility disc, which has to be bought at extra cost !,to stop it scratching the piss poor fry pan. Put it in the bag which also has to be bought at extra cost ! ! !, and in my case, comes misshaped with the label printed on wonky. I am now in the process of sending back my 4th set, 2 sets back to Trangia ! They sent 2 burners which had already been used, and one with a tarnished, dirty body.

      Did you order from China?
I can not complain. Not only the set but also additional items fit easily into each other. Nonstick works great too.
