I've recorded quite a few short stories, and the one thing you'll notice immediately when you come to fix any mistakes you made on a Monday is that your Tuesday voice may be significantly different! Time of day, what you had for breakfast, or even for dinner the day before, they will all contribute, and your voice will change throughout the day if you overwork it. A single edited word or sentence, recorded at a later date, will stand out like a sore thumb if you're not careful. So even if you're only 1% certain that you fluffed your lines when you made the original recording, record it again while you still have the same voice. In fact, I recommend listening to what you've recorded every hour, just in case, because your voice throughout the day will change and you may not be able to easily fix what you recorded earlier in the same day. And lastly, always end your day at the end of a chapter or natural break, because if tomorrow's voice is different it will be more noticeable between sentences than it will be between chapters.
I never had the stamina to record a full book, but I recorded some 1-2 hour essays. It's hard work, and not to be taken lightly. But the end result is very satisfying. To anyone reading this, good luck!

this is so true! I have recorded a lot of German audio books from 8.000 to 120.000 words for audibe and "suffered" from my voice changing thoughout the day a lot (and of course changing over days).

I agree. But you want to eliminate as many variables as possible. Keep the mic gain set at a certain level, keep the same distance from the mic and the same direction to the mic. Obviously use the same mic and interface. Always listen to the previous material and try to match the pitch, tone, volume and energy level. Then check the recording levels to assure the level is the same as the previous recording. And I agree. If you notice an error, fix it immediately. "Clean as you go" we say. Also I always do a complete chapter in one session. Thanks for the comment!

William Williams is terrific! Great and accurate pointers, advice and analysis that really help you to do a great audiobook. I've watched many videos on this subject and so many are just confusing and not much help.

Thank you for your videos. At the 5:50 mark, there's a typo in the word "specialized".

You might try adding a backlight to improve the quality of the background image over green screen.

I thought I take 5 hours per finished hour, but you're right. It's more like 8.
