- Supriya Menon is a Producer and the co-founder of Prithviraj Productions. Prithviraj Productions was launched in 2017. She has in partnership with her husband actor/ director Prithviraj produced and distributed more than 10 films. Their films under the banner of Prithviraj Productions include 9, Driving License, Kuruthi, Jana Gana Mana, Kaduva, Gold and Selfie (Hindi movie to be released).
Supriya Menon is a former BBC journalist. She had also worked as a reporter for NDTV. She was all set to go abroad for her further studies when she met Prithviraj. Soon they were in love and after a long courtship of four years, they got married. Supriya's parents have always been supportive of all her decisions. Her father Vijayakumar Menon passed away a year ago. She now lives in Kochi with her mother, her husband Prithviraj and daughter Alankrita.
This interview is in two parts: The first part encapsulates her journey so far as a person who had to move to Kerala after leading the life of a journalist in Mumbai. She talks about how her relationship with her husband Prithviraj has evolved over the years and how they have worked together to create their film production and distribution house Prithviraj Productions. She talks about being married into this family which include stars like Indrajith Sukumaran, Poornima Indrajith and Mallika Sukumaran. Prithviraj`s father Sukumaran himself was the leading actor and the hero in several movies and was known for his strong portrayal of characters.
The second part is more about the personal side of her being. She talks about how her parents helped her become the person that she is today. She talks about the grief that she has been going through after her dad passed away. Her dad was battling cancer. She talks about how she is perceived differently from who she is and her struggle being very different as she holds on to her own identity. She talks about how she dealt with postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter and how she sought help and therapy to help her through it.
Both episodes give us a glimpse to her life journey and reward us with several takeaways that stay with us. The thoughts shared around mental health awareness, importance of a professional help or therapy, dealing with postpartum depression or even depression in general, success and failure, gender equality can give us valuable insights.

ഞാനെപ്പോഴും ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്,
ഒരു പുരുഷൻ അച്ഛൻ ആകുമ്പോൾ അച്ഛൻ കൂടി ആകുന്നതേയുള്ളൂ.
എന്നാൽ,
ഒരു സ്ത്രി അമ്മയാകുന്നിടം മുതൽ അവൾ
അമ്മമാത്രമായിപ്പോകുന്നു.
അന്നു വരെ അവർക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്ന എല്ലാ priority യും മാറുന്നു.
ഒരേ സമയം നമ്മൾ നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി ജീവിക്കണം എന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ച് മുന്നോട്ട് നടക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുമ്പോഴും

നഷ്ട്ടം എന്നും നഷ്ട്ടം തന്നെയാണ്.. അതിൽ നിന്നും പുറത്തു കടക്കുവാൻ സമയമെടുക്കും.. അച്ഛൻ കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഒരു മകൾക്ക് നൽകാവന്നുന്നതിന്റെ മാക്സിമം നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.. അതിൽ എന്നും അഭിമാനിക്കാം... അച്ഛന്റെ blessing എന്നും മോളുടെ കൂടെയുണ്ടാകും.. എല്ലാർക്കും ആയുസ്സിന് ഒരു പരിധിയുണ്ട്. അതൊരിക്കലും നമുക്ക് control ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയില്ല.. ചിലർക്കു അസുഗം വരാം, മറ്റു ചിലർക്ക് ആക്‌സിഡന്റ് ആകാം.. മറ്റുള്ളവർക് മറ്റു പലതും... അച്ഛന്റെ പൊന്നുമോൾ എന്നും അച്ഛന് അഭിമാനമായിരിക്കണം.

I can relate with SM's grief. My dad has been gone for 22 years, but he's still very fresh in my mind. I come from a family of all girls, ie 5 daughters. He taught me and my sisters to be bold, confident, straight forward and motivated us to be academically sound. He wanted us to have our own identity rather than tagging on to his or our spouse's name. He brought us up tough like a man and tender when needed. True, a good father is our HERO and no one can replace him.

So we'll spoke.. I'm so glad she spoke out about her struggles with postpartum depression and the getting grief counseling. That's truly amazing that she was open about it. She is truly an inspirational. Such an emotional 2nd half.. I lost my father a year ago to depression and listening to this made me realize what I'm feeling is also grief and not that I'm crazy.
More power to you . When we have grief and which we can’t manage . It’s better to start therapy . Grief counseling is so good to recover emotionally and psychologically. Otherwise truma will be stay with you and show symptoms like attention issues, sleepiness, appetite issues etc. take care.. you are not alone.. stay strong!! You got this.

I started noticing & liking Prithviraj as a person after his choice of Supriya Menon as his life partner. As a single child, I totally understand her grief. I too lost my dad 6-7yrs ago & still painful. Being career oriented, I also understand the depression & its depths. I wish both the ladies all goodness in their lives. ❤️❤️

I was waiting for this episode but to be frank it was very difficult to watch Supriya speaking without tearing up myself. I can't imagine the pain that she's in considering how loving her father was. At the same time, she gives strength and hope to people who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. I really sincerely hope that she slowly comes to live in peace with the great memories she had with her father

Wonderful bold lady...emotional one and it even made me emotional!!
This totally led me to see a different face of Supriya. When you look from the outside, she is so privileged. She is married to a top actor, rich, respected for her profession, praised for her personality. But she had heartbreaks like so many of us. I loved how she openly spoke about seeking the help of a grief counselor after the loss of her dad, and seeing a psychiatrist relating to her postpartum depression. Hopefully, this will inspire so many others silently suffering from mental trauma to seek therapy!
I also faces the same situation. Post partum depression is not a simple word. Its very difficult to experiance. Nobody can understand the pain of that depression even now.

I can completely understand her. I am also a single girl child. After 1 and half year battle with cancer, my father passed away 10 years back. I was 17 at that time. You know being a single child, your world is your parents. After death of my father it was just me and my mother. Nobody knows the pain we went through. I keep asking the same question to God why you take him away? Why him? I still remember the pain he went through his last stage of life. Now i have completed my masters and all and financially independent also. But i always feels my world is incomplete without him.
