Excellent video . I feel the NFL rose in Popularity in the 1960s as an escape from current events. People could come together on Sundays and cheer for their team. I want my sports apolitical. I was encouraged by their enthusiasm in the summer . Go vote and keep your opinions out of the games
20 years ago, ESPN hired Rush Limbaugh as a football commentator, which was a disaster because he, too, was too political. He interjected race science when he said Eagles Donovan McNabb (a black QB) didn’t have the IQ to be a top QB. That was a huge controversy back then.
Personally I would've gotten The Sklar Brother they should've done it like Cheap Seat. I think Nikki was just being Nikki and Amazon/NFL didn't know about the jokes
@vanhagar3000 That explains why we never saw NFL video on Cheap Seat and we know ESPN doesn't want to upset the NFL just look at what happened to Playmaker
YES. I always fondly recall their pitch to save old Busch Stadium by combining it with new Busch Stadium to create the "home of the inside-the-park homerun."
I dont mind it. The RFK joke was about Rodgers, who was linked to him. Comedy has always been topical. we are talking about a post game show that most people already turned off by then.
Stand-up comedy is very popular right now and it’s just hilarious that the NFL thinks they can somehow tap into that. I swear to god “roasting” is going to be the new corporate hack trendy segment on shows 🙄 Yes, The Tom Brady roast was very successful and Kill Tony is an incredibly popular show right now. Doesn’t mean we want that everywhere we look
Ugh you're probably right; it sucks because imo roast comedy is the "easiest" (relative to other forms of standup), least interesting type of standup out there.
Did the NFL not realize who Nikki is? Have they not seen her roasting people before? The edgier comics will push the envelope, almost no one or no topic is off limits. And the jokes last night were very tame in comparison to her usual routine. The NFL has only themselves to blame.
Those last two jokes were funny though. I am left leaning but the NFL wanting to be apolitical but have "End Racism" in their endzones is ironic to me. They also have the Negro National Anthem. Listen, I get not wanting to ruffle feathers but I hate seeing big companies like this be hypocrites.
Living in Canada, this is sort of a relief because TSN and CTV signed off within a minute of the game's conclusion. Sadly, we subjected to a rerun of Children Ruin Everything (normally it would be Corner Gas) on CTV and Sportscentre with the opposite of Scott Van Pelt (the super-annoying Jay Onrait) on TSN.
I didn't mind the joke too much personally, but it fell flat. It just wasn't funny. Like RFK dropped out a month ago, so he likely already does know, and so the joke feels forced. The January 6th joke is a bit weird too. It sounds like she was trying to make political jokes that were neutral, and because of that, the 2nd is this weird statement which makes an assumption on her leanings which probably upsets both sides.
I think Nikki Glaser is hilarious, but this is not a good fit. Honestly, the political aspect isn't even near the top of the list on why this didn't work. First, SHE DOESN'T WATCH FOOTBALL. So she's mostly roasting the players' lives, when there may be missed opportunities for more game related jokes. When she did game related jokes they came across flat, like she didn't know why it was funny. Another issue is it seems the directive was "just roast people." Glaser uses a lot of self depricating humor, but you can't really do that much in this format. The roast style also leads to stilted delivery because she's pausing so jokes sink in. Something like this might have worked better on a College Gameday type show where there is a crowd. This seems like someone at an incredibly young sports division said "Hey we need some star power on our show, related to football, who can we get?" "Well that Nikki Glaser did a roast of Tom Brady." Glaser's agent hears that one of the few "water cooler" shows remaining in television wants to have her make apperances. The agent is going to say yes 10 out of 10 times. Amazon is trying to run the show like a legacy media sports division, but they don't know how and don't realize that's a format that is fading anyway. GPS was funnier this morning than Glaser was last night, that's where Amazon needs to be looking, not "who can we get to be our Frank Caliendo, but we'll put in the POST game. Innovation!"
I don't get the impression Nikki knows a lot about football. I think she hosted the Brady roast because generally Brady is one of the few players bimbos are aware of because "he's dreamy." So low-hanging fruit like this is no surprise. I mean, the jokes just seemed so forced. Even if you agree with her, it is hard to deny that they were more forced in there than some of Brett Favre's 22 passes that got picked in his lone Jets season.
she didn't host. Kevin Hart did. she was the best roaster on the show. and who gives a shit if doesn't know much about football? neither do half the people who watch the NFL. she's a comedian and she's great at her craft. if you don't like her, oh well. go listen to Christian radio.
Nikki Glaser is a fantastic comedian, but she's not a good fit with NFL broadcasts. Most NFL fans like bland beer like Budweiser, and bland comedy like Jeff Dunham. And I agree that political jokes (especially in an election year) aren't a good idea.
From hat I've seen, JG9News appears to be center left, so I doubt he hates the joke itself. I think his point is that the political jokes aren't a good idea.
@@big4horry i wasnt talking about him, i was just saying in general people could just ignore it like that. I just watch the game & ignore everything else
First of all, these weren’t funny jokes. Maybe there were more jokes that actually landed and in context these would be funny. You can get away with political jokes if they are really funny and can get the targeted side laughing. These weren’t it.
This set was hilarious
Wow... such a baby about half of you are. Those jokes landed perfectly.

Agreed! sports should be apolitical👍

I think he said that he was getting too much credit because the media wanted to see a black QB succeed and that the defense carried the Eagles.
@@ninersdd21 Yeah I actually looked up his comments. Dude is legit a comic book super villain.
She was hilarious. Get a sense of humor. The stiffs on Amazon need to lighten up. Athletes never like to be made fun of. Too much ego.
Next week, the halftime show will be hosted by the cast of “The View”. The postgame show will be hosted by Rosie O’Donnell and Kathy Griffin.
Would still be better than Gutfeld and Kid Rock.
@@newsflash7718 Gutfeld is far superior to those whack job leftists.
Well the Patriots don’t have to be embrassed after the game anymore… right?
Personally I would've gotten The Sklar Brother they should've done it like Cheap Seat.

Funny enough, one of the few things ESPN barred the Sklar's from riffing was NFL archive stuff.

Yeah the first joke is super fine as he was legit considered to be RFK Jr's running mate.
I sense a RUclipsr from the 602 is already sick of the local political ads.

I'm offended that the NFL is putting another game behind a paywall ....
Bally Sports does the same thing with the other sports leagues during their regular seasons.
I think she should be given a warning since what's done is done. But if she does it again, they don't bring her back.
For me, I watch sports to get away from things like politics.
In defense of Amazon, the Thursday Night games haven't been very good since they got the rights to them.
I enjoyed it. She was great at the tom Brady roast, great here. Can't wait to hear what she does next

So when did football get so political now?
The best joke during this game was the Patriots offense. It had me on the floor trying to collect myself because it was so hilarious.
I turned the game off after she made her first "joke". I already knew what was coming.
Youre crazy. Go look at the videos posted of it. They all have overwhelming praise. It was good. And I'm not a liberal before you try claiming it.
Amazons studio show is unwatchable, except for Albert Breer
well I had the game off at halftime to do better things so I didn't have anything to sit and try and be mad about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess "BOMBS" is in the eye of the beholder... I thought she was hilarious. When comedy could just be comedy without people being offended?

This is the kind of bad comedy I would expect at a local club on open mic night.

No Fun League
The only thing funnier than that set is little babies like you crying about it.
Is she trying to associate RFK Jr with Jan 6 because he supports Trump?
Fun Fact: January 6 is the only riot in US history. Apparently.
Amazon has been WOKE for a long time... look at what they did with Rings of Power... I'm not surprised that they did this...
People really do like to find things to get annoyed about...
I thought it was a solid 5 minutes of standup had good jokes. Idk if it’s the best format for it but I personally enjoyed it.
THIS WAS AWKWARD AND UNFUNNY
How the NFL didn't know she was a liberal comedian is beyond me 😐🫥
They definitely did
Liberal comedian is an oxymoron.
That was a comedy segment? Did anyone actually laugh?
I can't think anything is funny unless other people laugh too. Cry.
No jokes about the BLM riots. I’m not surprised.
Does comedian ever really work when they aren’t in front of an audience that was expecting comedy?
Vote Harris!!!
Of course someone had to say "vote (subpar candidate)" in the comments lol
or maybe you ignore it & just enjoy the sport like me
