    I think BodeExpress just wanted to run with his friends and get a front row seat for the race. When he falls behind the pack he quickly catches up and then coasts again. He did not really care about winning and running past friends. When the Preakness worker tried to gather Bode, He just got motivated to run a little faster. BodeExpress might be the favorite for the Belmont. He ran the race finishing third to last and then ran another lap and did not even look very tired after all of that running and jogging.

      Chorus Frog The television announcer that was talking about “the gate crew“, “the starter… That held onto the horse after the gate opened“, the TV announcer guy is a total idiot. The starter is the guy that pushes the button to open all the gates simultaneously. The guy inside the starting gate is not the starter. He’s one of the gate crew. The starting gate crew has the responsibility to sit inside the starting gate and hold on to one or more horses headstall/bridal to keep their head straight for the start. Go back and look. Each horse had their own gate crew “heading” them. All of them did the exact same thing. No one held on to anything after the gate opened. The horse hopped up in the air because he was excited and nervous. The jockey plunked off onto the ground because he was unseated. No foul play at all. The only thing that took this horse out of the race was himself.

    I think Bodexpress wants a career in eventing. He's a pretty mover, and we now know that he can gallop two miles without zero problem. Plus, the way he leapt into the air at the start (I don't think I've ever seen a rider's hind parts so far above the saddle), he's definitely a scopey little jumper. By the way, I watched the break in slo-mo, and it sure looks to me like the assistant starter had ahold of Bode after the bell. Whatever. I'm a fan of this colt, whether he ever wins a race or not.

  • @SaraNightfire1
    @SaraNightfire1 5 лет назад +16

    Just an FYI to people who don't understand Bodexpress's rider loss:
    As soon as a horse throws his rider, he's automatically disqualified. He doesn't have a chance to win, even if he ran first all the way around the track he would've been not even considered a place, partially because he is now running about 100 pounds lighter than every other horse. (The weight of a jockey). Partially because they have no control over him, he would've been caught if he wasn't so close to the other horses and would've disrupted the race if they did. He also wasn't causing any disruption or danger, so they just let him run around as he wasn't a danger to other horses or himself at the time.
    Bodexpress was probably interfered with reseeing it. (Being fair: I didn't see it on NBC, but a gambling site that DIDN'T cover what fully happened) but Improbable might be on the gate list for rearing on purpose while waiting to be released. Barbaro is a prime example of how dangerous the gate can be, but as of right now, it's the safest way to keep the horses contained before the race starts without interference. Before that it was whips and a starter, jockeys would play bumper cars to wear out other horses that were favorites for a better chance for their own. It also shows that Bodexpress is very outclassed in this as even though he was running wide, he wasn't a close to the finishers with a 100 pound advantage. I would be floored if he is entered in the Belmont even if he passes the gate test.

      @@janetannerevans2320 it's what they're trained to do. If that's your argument why didn't the horse that lost its jockey out of the gate go to the infield and just graze on the grass.

      @@redneckfarmer6584 Yes it's what they are trained to do but I was referring to a horse's natural instinct to keep up with the herd. If the herd had stopped to graze he would have to. Flight is their natural defense against predators they view themselves as prey.

    I think the riderless horse should've won.that would've been something.

      really would be something if that happened and they allowed it to stand

      He wouldn't have, they have to carry certain weights and a -100 pound advantage would have DQed him. Nevermind the fact that to win you must cross the finish line with a jockey.

      Had it run a better line, it might have. But as noted, the lower weight is meaningful, and it would have been DQ'd.
