Looks like you have a nice performing setup. I bet you cut that group by at least half with some finely tuned reloads and waiting for the gun to cool.

Possibly. At the very least, we know it's capable of tighter groups.

That's a nice shooting rifle👍👍👍. Here is what I do to sight in a rifle. I use the steadiest rest possible to get a good first shot. If the first shot is on the paper, you won't need a second shot. Now, looking through the scope, put the reticle on the first bullet hole. Now…DO NOT move the rifle at all, and while looking through the scope, adjust the elevation and windage knobs until the scope is centered on the bulls eye. You're done!! The next shot will be in the bulls eye!!

I am aware of this method but I can't hold the rifle that still at that range.

    • @ShastaBean
      @ShastaBean 2 года назад

That's actually backwards...You keep it still while having the reticle started on the bullseye, then you adjust the knobs until the reticle gets to the Point of Impact. That makes your POA become the same as your POI. If you did it the way you described, it would get even further away.

Lol you are right. I didn't pay close enough attention to the exact wording he used, but I knew what he was talking about.

@@BuckeyeBallistics He's not the first person I've seen flip it around. It can mess with your mind trying to actually sort it out with how the knobs move the reticle, where it then steers the barrel, and what that then does to impact. It's like saying, "I don't think you're not the opposite of un-wrong".

@@BuckeyeBallistics And I can't imagine trying to accomplish it from a bag...It's not even as easy as it might seem from a bench-rest...and has some stupid desire to move when you turn the turrets. Maybe people that don't drink coffee could pull it off. But it is the best way that I know to get a fast zero, and the only way I'd ever do it, now that I know how.

A chronograph, bubble level trued to the rifle, rear bag and a tall test of your scope will go a long ways. Strelok app. also. I'm out to 1500 yards. 800 to 1000 my buddy and I are shooting clay pigeon's. Stock 308 Savage heavy barrel fluted 24" m10 at 2750 fps. Athlon 4.5-27x50 Aries and a 6.5 creed moor at 2820 fps and 5x20x50 Vortex pst. Buddy has Christensen arms Ridgeline 26inch carbon fiber barrel in 300 Win Mag.and Niteforce 5x35 with 215 Berger hybrid running 2950 fps. He took two deer this year at 700 yards. Previously marked and known practiced distance. One shot on both.
    Distance is addictive!
    Nice video.
    Keep'em coming!

If you're hitting clays at 800+, then that's a stupid accurate rifle. I'm glad you like the video, but all I just read is you pay to play lol. I only have $500 into this rifle which includes the cheap Tasco scope with a crappy 30/30 reticle. I've had it out to 500 yards so far off camera without missing, but that's on a giant 20" gong. I gotta save up just so I can take it out to the 1000 yard range...

My scope is my most expensive item. Not if I hit clay at 1000. I do and have video and witness. Anyway when you get past 600 and gets a lot tougher. My Vortex razor HD 4000 rangefinder is a cheap compared to Revic etc. Knowing the distance and actual velocity of your load is crucial. 30 feet per second off at a thousand is a miss, but I degress. I was trying to being helpful. My equipment is poor boy equipment that can do the job out to 1500 yards as of now. Anything past 1000 with my equipment is above average. I load my own and do my own gun smithing up to this point. Oh and think of a level on its end. Now tilt that level a fraction of an inch. How far off would that be at 800 to 1000 yards? Hence the tall test. Which can be done with a card board box.
      Goodluck with your endeavor.

Yeah your scope costs twice of what my entire rifle/scope combo did, that was my point. I'd consider myself lucky to get hits at 1000 with the 6-18x50 30/30 reticle that I have, but I'm going to try. I took your comment positively- so I'm sorry if my response seemed negative or hostile (it wasn't), because it wasn't intended to be such...

It's all good. I'm just an country boy and this is my hobby. Physically can't do all the stuff I used to so my hobbies aren't numerous. 127 pieces of shrapnel in my spine and internal organs made sure of that. Retired and disabled.
That Athlon Ares is on the cheaper side of good glass and First Focal plane scopes. The folks who have the money have 5000 dollar rifles and 3000 dollar scopes. Shooting groups sub moa out to 2000 and 3000 yards. Check out Mark and Sam from Australia. Lots of knowledge and info for free. From a guy who builds motors for a living and gun accessories. He shoots a .22 rimfire like a center fire.
      Goodluck on your journey.

For hunting purposes the 2506 beats 6.5 creedmoor all to pieces

I made a 500 yard video with this (and have also shot 6.5 Creed 500 yards), and I was definately more impressed with the .06

You should go fishing and use that Tasco scope for a weight - get a better scope for that great rifle-love those 110s

I had it shooting sub moa groups at 500 yards with an even cheaper amazon scope on it lol. It deserves better glass but I'm poor...
