  • At 14, Christian Picciolini went from naïve teenager to white supremacist -- and soon, the leader of the first neo-Nazi skinhead gang in the United States. How was he radicalized, and how did he ultimately get out of the movement? In this courageous talk, Picciolini shares the surprising and counterintuitive solution to hate in all forms.

      Rofl John V. No you wouldnt expect the very same average for any group of people simply based on the details of the testing, IQ tests are vastly inferior tests, you have yet to provide some plausibility for the divergence though, which you havent. Show at least that people with high IQs have had in previous times more offspring, and explain the flynn effect with that in mind, ok you cant. The rest of your ramblings is just pure idiocy.

    • @johnvictorengland7703
      @johnvictorengland7703 5 лет назад

      RipTheJackR,
      Okay, first off, IQ tests are absolutely not "inferior" (compared to what?!). IQ is by far the most established psychometric that exists. In fact IQ is almost perfectly correlated with how much money you will make over your lifetime. Now we all know that correlation does not equal causation but it proves that there is something there.
      The onus is actually on YOU to prove that in this one specific case, the only one out of billions of cases of evolutionary theory, that just this once the result was different and that there was no significant change in humans due to selective pressure. YOU are the one making the extraordinary claim.
      As for the rest of your argument:

      Humans aren't dogs, my dude. Humans haven't been purposefully and aggressively breed for over the course of thousands of years. There's no "human breeding" competitions
      Plus there's the saying: there's no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner

    • @ml2167
      @ml2167 5 лет назад +42

      That's not the point. Of course humans aren't dogs. But humans are subject to the same forces of DNA and genetics that dogs are, which means human beings are not all the same. There are different races of humans, just as there are different breeds of dogs, and not all races/breeds are the same. The varying races of humans have different mental and physical characteristics, just as the varying breeds of dogs do.

    • @Alex-fu4md
      @Alex-fu4md 5 лет назад +103

      Ya, human race characteristics vary a little. But a Great Dane is ~4x taller than a Chihuahua. Theres nothing like that when it comes to humans. And unlike dog breeds, humans don't have strict lineages with paperwork and generations upon generations of inbreeding to the point where a family could be called a distinct breed. Human races are largely ill defined because we're all mutts. I mean, Africa is one of the genetically and ethnically diverse place on the planet and they're all called "black people" because they have black colored skin. Our "races" are arbitrary divisions determined 100% simply by the color of our skin, as if that's all there is to genetics.

    • @Alex-fu4md
      @Alex-fu4md 5 лет назад +70

      I was saying race was invented by skin color, and all the differences between ethnicities of the same skin color was added in as an afterthought. I just don't believe that human ethnicities vary *that* much. While it's hard to argue that black people dominate sports, I'd argue that a lot of the IQ and dysfunctional government stuff is a lot more more environmental than genetic.
      While Europe was in the dark ages, the African and Muslim world were in a golden age of science and technology. The richest man ever (even to this day) was an African King from the 13th century. The guy that literally broke the economies of the cities he visited because he would shower the place in gold. It's my belief that Europeans just had their turn at the top at just the right moment to cripple the rest of the world.
      I mean, looking at Congo, 1885-1908 saw literally half of the population executed. Forced labor with economic exploitation being the top priority continued until they finally gained their independence in only 1960. Continued capitalist exploitation. Lots of natural resources (the breeding ground of dictatorships and corruption). A complete lack of infrastructure, resulting in a malnourished and uneducated population (thus lower IQ). And then repeat that for the entire continent. I'd say it's fair to give them a learning curve.
      But bringing it back to your original point, assuming these differences exist, how would one "breed" of human be more dangerous to us than others? Taking on your beliefs, I'd say the most dangerous people to be around would be east asians or white people.

      The only difference between a "cult" and a mainstream, "respectable" religion is the number of people that have been brainwashed into believing whatever they're peddling.
      Of course, zoom out socially a little further and we can easily see how entire societies do exactly the same thing with their young. Every country has an "indoctrination system" - they call it the Public School System. They get 'em young and pervert them in ways that will produce functioning, taxpaying consumers in harmony with the prevailing socioeconomic philosophies.
      The very notion that individual humans could grow up, learning what they want to learn about the world around them, and living their lives and loves to suit themselves, is considered idiotic. It would lead to chaos and a complete collapse of society as we know it. Yup... "as we know it"... it surely would. But it would be interesting to see what the end result would be in some sort of limited experiment.

      @@viveremilitareest9281 For someone who holds Europeans to such a high regard, you don't know our history and population very well. Countries go through demographic transition and one of the stages is a decrease in the death rate due to technological advances, but the birth rate stays the same leading to an increase in the overall population. Now when England for example reached this stage, they had colonies to immigrate to and places like Australia to send their prisoners or political enemies. So they had a way to spread their population out. So western nations did flood other nations, just many years ago.
      Not to mention the horrible influence of Europe on their colonies and the essential stunting of their growth. There are many factors why refugees migrate to western countries, but it is not because "Europeans are the most unique race". "Blending races" isn't even a thing. Because race is more than just skin color, it's also a social construct and is a multifaceted topic that can't be boiled down to us vs. them.

      That's like, super duper cool and all, but there's this small problem that people have with that, which is that, like, these people want us to be either exterminated or cleansed from society in some manner, which makes it really hard for us to be nice to the friendly Nazis that happen to harass us all day! No biggie though, lol haha.

    • @alaskawoolf3737
      @alaskawoolf3737 6 лет назад +5

      I agree, there's totally no way we can be friendly to a guy who's trying to kill us. I know minorities are always victims of hate in many forms, some people will always try to hurt others with one excuse or another.
      I sometimes think, if they believe they're so superior and dislike us so much, they should get all together in a single place of the earth, build a giant wall around themselves and leave the rest of inferior beings alone... But that's not possible and it wouldn't solve the problem.
      I have actually no idea how to solve it though, other than helping out the victims and stopping the racists or whatever from hurting others, getting justice for all, but more often than not that doesn't happen because discrimination is institutionalized.
      Having said that, while culprits of hate should be punished for their actions accordingly, they should also receive rehabilitation and a real opportunity to rejoin society as an useful person because (and I say this about most criminals), while punishment will make the victims feel better, it will not solve the underlying issue, rehabilitation will and everyone deserves an opportunity to change their ways and make up for their mistakes, if after that they still want to keep being assholes then... That's another business.
      I could keep writing about this, make a 50 page essay study about the subject but I don't want to, this is one of the biggest problems for all humanity and there's no easy answer fo it.

      I agree to a certain point with your statement, but it also reminded me of someone toxic that I'm very happy to have let go of.
      Loving and accepting people with severe problems and issues or people that turn against you, is important, but as soon as they start damaging you, you drop them.
      Ofcourse, it might be different if you're a therapist or a parent...but people that turn their anger towards their loved ones and justify this with; 'I need your support, I'm being like this because I am having a hard time' are scary people.
      Especially in a combination with another someone that is forgiving, listens, accepts and keeps on loving, it can be catastrophic. Depending on the behaviour, circumstances and relationships ofcourse.

      Michael Cote No. Just no. American Black culture and communities are broken through an odd interweaving of media brainwashing of a perpetual victimhood, as well as systemic infrastructure that inherently does not want a middle or working class, but serfs and kings. And yes it hits POC harder despite being a smaller population.
      It IS a fair argument to try to get to its root cause, one that many Black people have among their own as to just how stacked the system is due strictly to race.
      It is also a discussion that many Anglos shy from such topics because they too suffer from being unable to sort out truth from conjecture and propaganda. Comments like yours validate such.
      However, you sir, go even further to justify the very violence this TED Talk speaker seeks to quell. Maybe you might benefit from reaching out to this fella.
      I realize the news lies to us all, but it sounds like you are either buying bullshit from the other side of the argument, or you have a link to share about an American Black organization that is armed and ready to go to war with so-called Whitey. If you can't offer such proof, you may be playing victim yourself.
      You do know the difference between prejudice and racism, don't you?

    One of the most important things to take away from this is that everyone is capable of change and that someone's past cannot account for who they are now. If someone has proven they have changed their attitudes, that they have learnt from their mistakes and that they are now on a better track, digging up their past is nothing more than a pointless and sadistic act. You throw rocks at a man who's reached the pinnacle and he'll regret a great accomplishment.

      Definitely sounds like you have a need to help others around you. It can be so challenging. Its awesome of you to be so vulnerable and self-reflect over the internet. This is related but will seem like tangent - I think about how people want to adopt babies from third world countries... It feels good, warm and fuzzy... but if you asked the parents of the child what they need, I doubt the majority of them would say they need you to adopt their child. They would probably rather a fraction of the money you were going to spend on adopting their child so that they could raise their child connected to its culture and family. Your good deeds actually bring trauma to that child. So, my point is, I think so often, we assume we know what's best for people and try to do it... but we need to practice asking questions and listening. But also... many people just don't know how to be helped yet. Do keep trying though. :) At the very least, it does more good than bad.

    For me the question is: why do we have hate in our instinctual equipment? I mean : we find it across our way rather naturally , aren't we? If hate was completely wrong why would it be part our natural reactions ? If this was completely out of place, it wouldn't have survived, isn't it? So, what is the part of truth in hate? This is a true question. Your answers matter- at least to me.

    • @jaxx1258
      @jaxx1258 2 года назад

      Hate is not the evolutionary tool that got us this far - you're conflating it with fear imo. Hate is born from fear and while they are very closely related, hate serves pretty much only destruction, while fear at its most basic and honest level is a tool that can keep you alive. It keeps you from poking that bear, eating that mushroom, or maybe trusting too quickly that person you don't know. Fear is the evolutionary tool, while hate is a perversion of that instinct that is not necessary - we as humans can evolve socially as well, and there are always better solutions to hateful ways if morals or ethics are to be considered. It's like declaring war on a rival group to remove the threat of their existance, vs finding a diplomatic solution. Both achieve the same goal if done well. The truth is in fear - it's the motivator, while hate is something born from it. But we can choose to let it go.

      You're correct, Typhoon. It is ALL tribalism. Africans were/are racist against other Africans for decades. Nigeria, Nairobi, Kenya...America. This was never a discussion about racial superiority. It was about being a part of a so-called "family." A trust. Fueled by fear. Being indoctrinated (whether passively or aggressively), strives for the same end-game. It's almost like having a mental disorder. Most of us have the power to reconsider our sources, do our own research, and develop our own opinions. Some are forced, and therefore have no choice. But make no mistake...this is tribalism at its heart. It's not the whole story, but it is the main link that connects all forms of racism.

      And no, articles from "reputable" news sources or others don't count as solid facts. I mean statistics, studies, and logical reasoning to a useful level of detail.
      But, if I have to empathize, maybe your brother sees you and your attempts at "empathy" as nothing more then shallow, subconscious attemps to get him to embrace your morals, which exists only in the ecosystem of media and your own bias, while he sees the world through an utilitarian lense without concern for "getting along" or "unifying the people" or "caring for the disadvantaged"? Wondering wether arguments or empathy will change the world is as retarded and random as wondering wether bottled water or disco lights will change the world.
      "The world" is *literally* bigger and more complex than that. Also, others might not like what you want the world to change into, so you will never convince them, neither are you entitled to archieve that.
      For me the important question is how people of different persuasions can live together peacefully, and rational analysis is the only viable approach when strategising for that. You might identify "empathy" as a mean to an end along the way. But it is always secondary if civilzation is supposed to have a chance.
      If you want to archieve something you are talking about *function*. Function is mastered with a technical approach. Even or rather especially with emotional matters.

    This guy is absolutely right. I’m learning through my own journey in politics and teaching others to navigate those we disagree with with compassion no matter how hateful the ideology may be. These people are scared of the world changing too fast, but they can’t stop it, and they’re aware of that. Their reaction is to close off and build walls because it slows the progress within those borders to a more comfortable speed for them. Experience is what kills their ideology, and when they have a positive experience with those who are different, every bit of science shows that they shift and change to view those different groups as more similar. The problem is that their walls and borders don’t last long. Progress is the only constant in our universe, and it’s the whole reason we are here today. We move forward, we destroy outdated power structures, and we strive to self govern as much as large society permits us.

      I'm sorry, but are you referring to the same god who told people to smash babies against rocks if the babies are Babylonian? Sorry to say it, but that book you love is the reason so many people are racist.

      "God" didnt tell the Israelites to smash babies on the rocks. Read that verse again- it speaks of when the Babylonians would smash Hebrew babies when they conquered the Land of Israel.

      Nope, God damn this man. You don't get to be a violent thug for decades and then just say "sorry guys".

      Dalton Ascone, Ronald Dunne
      Psalm 137:8-9 "Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us. Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks."
      It's not taken out of context, and it's not about what the Babylonians would do to the Israelites.

      Ryan Davis A simple Google search reveals:
      "God bless
      phrase of God
      1.
      an expression of good wishes on parting"
      A person can feel the poster may have meant the Roman Catholic or Eastern Othodox "God" in the post or a person can have a bit of knowledge about the language they speak/write. The knowledge should help one understand that certain phrases may have backgrounds that stem from certain things but not all phrases are literal or have the exact same meaning over time. Perhaps he/she should have said, "LUCK TO YOUR HOUSE!" Since figures of speach are hard to understand or maybe that one is a little advanced.

      Perhaps that was intended; a guy who was all about it and subsequently got out of it telling a message that this is all wrong. Quite a good F-You to the one whose birthday was that day.

      Because the current trend today is to be anti white and anti male. So basically behind this political correctness cheesy stuff there is anti white male propaganda. It’s like they’re saying don’t hate black men or jews, just hate white men and you’ll be fine.
      It’s still racist AND sexist by the way.

      Jay Double Gee No, the current trend is not being racist. If you can't handle not being racist, I can see how you confuse anti-white with anti-racist.

      I see. So one cannot be against racism, because being against racism is racism. Yes, yes that makes perfect sense, thank you for the explanation.

    the generosity of spirit of the guy from the speaker’s old school is one of the defining qualities of people from minorities. treat us decently and we will treat you with love and compassion.
