Maybe change title to 'first listen' instead of 'first look' because we have already seen all those promo's...
production quality soooo high. really appreciate you guys still pushing the quality of these videos
I'm a huge Apple fan. I don't understand with all the cash Apple has in the bank why they can't make Siri one of the top assistants
Because they have not been innovative for years. Also ''Siri' was on android FOR FREE before Siri came out, ahahaa. It was called Vlingo app for android (look it up, its a fact if you dont believe me)
Me every time I use Siri: "Hey Siri, open Google". Then proceed to search with google voice.
derty QWERTY App store voice assistants were before the software voice assistants for every company. Don't see how this changes anything.
Dares not to mention Google's Home Max in this video. Which says a lot.
ig33ku Says a lot about the channel, not the homepod
Apple White Knights have arrived or should I say Apple Home Puards.
He said it's close to play 1 quality. Home Max is way closer to play 5 quality
ig33ku The Amazon Echo has the most users, they're only comparing it with what 90% of people watching this video have. Not a speaker that no one actually has because they can just get the 10x cheaper version by the same company. This video wouldn't be useful to most viewers if it isn't comparing it to a product that they actually have.
Don't compare a $350 device to a cheapo echo. Compare it to the Google home max
No comment about how it stacks up with the Google home max...
lmao I just remembered my sister owes me $300 and she’ll be paying me on the week of the HomePod release date, guess all I have to actually pay is 50 bucks 😂😂😂
Miguel J but if she owes you... isn’t it still your money?
Everyone's arguing about the HomePod/Home Max...meanwhile im chilling with the JBL Google Assistant speaker
great preview, very balanced, will be back
Hi, is it possible to connect more than 1 device? Thx
Can you change the privacy settings on individual devices? Example: Allow homepod to read my messages at home but not a homepod at work.
It was only a matter of time until Apple jumped on the whole smart speaker thing...
But seriously...
NO SPOTIFY????????
Where is the speaker. Only old promo shots. Click bait
i use my spotify 99% of the time on my google home :/ idk if i’d like the homepod
Jevh M Probably not, since it doesn't seem the HomePod supports anything other than Apple Music
This is not suppose to be compared to the smaller models it’s suppose to go up against something like google max, which if I may say is more expensive than the HomePod.
I'd love to hear these test tracks you speak of.
So basically you can buy a stereo system with voice assistant for a price of one Homepod with its limitations
meister550 You can?
We will have to see if Siri catches up? Siri was THE FIRST! THEY SHOULD BE THE BEST! However they are not
Thanks for a great video! Love !
Not a single shot of the speaker. Clickbait !
Friday Apple Did you even watch the video. God you fanboys are stupid
I know this is just 1 hour review, but there's no single shot of the real one is disrespect
Friday Apple I dunno, maybe because it's EXCLUSIVE TO ONLY THEM? They'd get fuckin sued for recording the working product. All of the "first looks" of the HomePod when it was announced were literally just looks. They didn't get to see any of the working products yet.
I like the video but my only complaint is that you really should compare apples to apples Google max versus HomePod and not apples to oranges HomePod in Amazon echo
Sonos sounds really good, I doubt the HomePod sounds better but I need to hear it.
I value privacy, that’s why I’m picking the HomePod
HAHAHAHAHAH if you "value privacy" you wouldn't buy one at all
As much as I love Apple's philosophy on privacy, *Thisismyart* has a point. Although Apple may not use them for data collection, third parties might. If you really value privacy that much, consider not having one at all.
Apple's terms of service prohibit third parties from gaining such information.
You honestly think you'll get more privacy with this?.... AHAHAHAHAHA *falls off chair laughing*
If you value trust and privacy in a company dont go with the one that reduced battery life without telling anyone.
hey! What camera are you recording with??
Damn the hate Apple gets is ridiculous smh and 90% of yall have never even owned a apple product
Ikr, It's so sad!
Robert Perez Exactly the reason people hate Apple! Wanna know why they don’t? It’s cause everything’s overpriced
They are nice products. They just aren't worth the price tags. I wouldn't pay 350 for Siri.
yeah, I think that as well. I wouldn't pay that much for a HomePod, but I liked every other apple product. I think people are exaggerating too much!
TecHero you can build a 400 dollar pc that outpreforms the 1300 dollar imac. Coincidence that apple gets hate? I think not.
Looking forward to seeing this in Denmark
When he says the best he's heard is he including the Google Home Max? Why is he comparing a $350 speaker to a Echo and G Home. That's like comparing klipsch floor standing R-28Fs to a 2.0 soundbar.
Alexa is awful, Siri is by far a superior assistant. But the main point is the speaker, this thing is quality!
that's just your opinion
Could someone tell me what is wrong with apple music? I completely agree this new product is overpriced regardless, but honestly I don't think there is a better music streaming service out there better than apple music.
Agreed. So much better than Spotify.
Apple music is trash on windows. Theres no dedicated apple music app, and itunes is garbage on windows. Last time I used apple music, I couldn’t control other audio devices that have apple music, like controlling itunes on my PC with my phone for example. You could only use a shitty remote app which only worked on one device at a time. On spotify its a breeze, any device with spotify can control any other device with spotify, and you can switch seamlessly between them. I can switch between playing on my phone, to my pc, to my tv, and to my audio receiver all within a few seconds.
Apple Music is the best lol some people just aren’t bought into the ecosystem, but if you are than yea Apple Music is a must have, first access to new tracks, all the latest mixes and radio stations,
Apple music sucks if you don't use Apple, if you like iPhone and have Apple music, but you also have a PC( because everyone recognizes PC as the master race and far superior than Mac OS) and you want to hear Apple music on it, it won't be that easy such as Spotify or even Deezer
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong in Apple Music, the service is great tho, pretty much the same with spotify imo, it’s just people choice like samsung or apple. I’m a spotify user and have been using it years before apple music launched, I just can’t move to another service because I’m already comfortable with spotify
If I had a reason to have smart speakers I would definitely get a HomePod
Apple locking you in to Apple Music is the ultimate deal breaker. Siri is a nincompoop.
Not really. You can still stream any audio source from your iOS device or Mac to it. Sonos is actually more limited (although they do support Spotify voice commands) because not every app/service is compatible with their app.
Why did you keep comparing this to the Amazon Echo? That's a $250 price difference. You could have compared it to an Echo Plus or a Google Home Max, which the latter would have been a more fair comparison. I know Apple will make a good product but for a first impression video your comparison was nonsensical.
David DiJoseph six microphones sounds like a mistake aswell, won't it pick it up the same thing alot of times?
David DiJoseph Nonsensical? You realize that the Alexa Echo has the most users, right? They're only comparing it to the mainly-used smart speaker.
"...if you're paranoid...its easy to get Siri to stop listening" Stop listening or stop responding.... hmm
i waited for the sound bro !
Well at the moment the only justifiable reason to buy a HomePod versus its competitors is sound quality and integration with Apple Software. I certainly wouldn’t choose one for its price, features or styling at the moment.
Siri is pretty useless, while i like the idea of a Bluetooth smart speaker working really well with the iPhone, I’m not drinking the kool aid and spending near $400 plus an Apple Music subscription.
apexxy it’s not just about sound quality, it’s about services, the fact that this thing hasn’t sold out yet, you can still pre order today for fast delivery or pick up speaks for itself. People aren’t going to spend almost $400 for a Siri machine that only lets you use Apple Music. That’s ridiculous especially since Apple Music pales in user base to services such as Spotify. I’m sure this thing will sound good, it better for the price, but there’s other less expensive and more flexible smart home speakers that will sound similar if not the same or even better. I have a bunch of Apple products and most the time think they’re worth even the higher Apple tax price they charge for admission into the ecosystem. This isn’t, sales will reflect that.
6644pmr This is not iOS or MacOS Siri. This is mega-bitch Siri. You ask her "How do I trickshot my school teacher?" and she'll give you all of the steps guaranteed. On a serious note, don't judge the product until it's released. And if you don't want to use Apple Music, just turn on Bluetooth or Airplay.
Boss Brandon I get were you're saying but then it's not a smart speaker anymore. You could do that with a $20 Bluetooth speaker. I'll pass. Maybe at some point they'll open it up to other services. I don't it though.
The price isn’t bad at all compared to other smart speakers of that caliber.
This $349 HomePod SHOULD sound much better than an echo considering an echo is $99...
honestly this should be just a speaker, compared to Google and amazon AI speakers. + it’s apple so it will be ridiculously overpriced.
Jkinsg92 lmao l am an apple fan, always will be and have apple devices in my house, (Apple TV *dont use as often*, iPhone (3,5&7) and a MacBook *still bummed by the storage sizes*)
I’m not looking for an argument just trying to see things as they are - Being realistic.
Anyway my point is unlike google an actual search engine, it can do so much more than Siri, and Alexa for Amazon is really impressive, you can almost tell it anything. I think apple still has a long way to go. still expensive
Expensive != overpriced.
Apart from that, I agree with the rest. Alexa and Google are far ahead in the AI game, and the Sonos - while not as good apparently - are cheap *enough* to make up for that and work with Spotify et al. Apple needs to improve Siri and open up to more services to make this even a consideration.
Jkinsg92 Sonos are an audio company, they specialize in speakers. They are also the industry leader in powered speakers. Theres a reason theyre priced the way they are and never have a price drop. Like this clip said, homepod right now is an excellent speaker. Problem is its being sold as a smart speaker which he also said was not at all as comprehensive and full experience as other services. So, $350 (homepod) for a excellant speaker and terrible AI or $400 (home max) for a better than average speaker but amazing AI?
Michael Garry Actually, Alexa is starting to fall behind Siri. So is Cortana. Google is still a year ahead of everyone though, probably due to the fact that it is mainly a software company, and uses Google Search to its advantage.
Michael Garry And yes, the HomePod doesn't support Spotify and etc. But ever heard of Bluetooth or Airplay? Those would work perfectly fine with ANYTHING btw.
Great review 👌
I have iTunes Match could I listen to my music from that directly on the home pod or do you have to have Apple Music?
So if you have an iPhone, then you buy Apple TV and Apple HomePod. If you have a Sammy then you buy Google Chromecast, and Google Home. What do you have if you buy Amazon Fire and Amazon Alexa?
Phone that supports Alexa, HTC U11 does. And it's a great phone at that
No one can ever give examples on how Siri is so much worse than Alexa. I have both and they both seem to suck equally beyond the simplest of things.
Ill stick with my SONOS
Waiting for a Xiaomi counterpart later this year 😂👌🔈🔉🔊🎵🎶
You mean ripoff
I still question why people enjoy the sound quality coming out of any Alexa or Google smart home speakers. Sonos is one of the best real competitive comparisons.
Philip Malchek The Google Home Max speaker is sort of equivalent to what the HomePod is going to be in terms of sound quality. The HomePod would only sound a little better. Then again, 90% of people probably have a Google Home Mini or a Google Home instead of a Google Home Max, so Apple can go ahead and take the stage.
Good honest review
Have you tried the google home max
Just few points that everyone seems missing (on purpose?):
- Apple Music is an Apple app, Spotify et al are different companies, Apple can't program their apps. Wait until the system opens to developers next summer to see other companies integrations, for now, as with Apple's first hardware iterations, it's a closed system to educate users and see what trends/usages pick up.
- The system is mostly for Apple centric users, especially those who care about privacy, as HomePod can be used completely offline while still controlling all HomeKit devices (offline) and being controlled locally by any iOS device.
You seem to seriously underestimate how many people refuse Google Home/Alexa because of this concern.
- Siri is behind the competitors in what exactly? "Discussion" skills? How many people spend their days conversing with their assistants about the height of the wife of the president of some unknown country? ... Digital Assistant is here mainly to do main tasks like starting/closing apps, interacting with apps (Siri has fewer domains open to the public contrary to Alexa skills, but at least they're user friendly and localized in 50 languages), setting calendar events, sending/reading messages, etc ... And all of these, Siri does them perfectly (even better that Google Assistant when taking the usage "context" like using hands free/screenless or looking at the screen)
It’ll be great for music 🎶 lovers. I think they’ll appreciate the sound quality a lot.
Google Home Mini best for assisting. Google Home Max best for audio/speakers. Normal Google Home best for both.
Ok now here comes apple saying they came up with this first.. Then the fan boys will have something to feel good for.
Apple never said that?
santiago vindell Technically, Siri did come first before Alexa, Google Assistant, etc. They just didn't put it into speaker form.
if you want good sound get the sonos speaker with echo
I'd like to know a comparison of quality between this and Google Home Max.
"Pott" means toilette in German and it's spoken like Pod..so HomePod = HomePott.
So you should place it in the toilette! 😂
I wish it had an onboard battery with at least 8 hours of battery
HomePod works with Apple Music AND Spotify and iHeart Radio. Please make this correction in your video.
Looks like the British Royal guard’s hat.......
JulianChee whahahaahahahahaha
perfect vid
You'd swear this guy never listened to music on a speaker in his life.
huh
But now Sonos and Alexa from Amazon are integrated so....Is the quality of the speaker better than the quality of a Sonos?
Apple is going to sell this out!
doesn't work with Pandora? if it did i'd buy it.
Yay Apple
F u
why tho?
Johny1220 ITS TRASH
If apple gets closed schools get closed
Wut?
I really want one of these but the price and apple music really kills it for me
If Siri has advanced it's voice recognition capabilities, then it's a contender. Otherwise Google Assistant on Sonos One when available should be much better. I subscribe to Apple Music but Siri isn't as advanced!! Just not impressed!! Let's see if Apple understand the magnitude of improving Siri.
Gregory Stewart This Siri is different from the ios and MacOS Siri. And the voice recognition on Siri is better than Alexa's, watched a comparison.
Good try NSA
Amazing.
Do u have to have iphone to use it?
Basically, yes. You need an iOS device to set it up. If you've got an Apple Music subscription then I guess you don't after that but you would be missing out on AirPlay which adds a lot of functionality to the device.
Worst comparison ever... An audiophile will NEVER use an alexa or google home for music. Mabie Google Home Max or something better like a Bose.
Go befriend an audiophile and say the word Bose around them, and see how easy it is to lose a friend
or you can hook up an Echo dot to speakers for the price of an iPhone charger
klipsch
>Audiophile
>Bose
Alexis Reese i am kinda audiophile and i like bose cause i want warm audio on the go without looking stupid carrying around big ass headphones in public
i was hoping to see the first look of the HomePod not a front facing reporting review of the first encounter. come on Engadget.
Me want, but don’t need....
This video sounds like an advertisement.
Lynellf He just said it wasn’t a review...
I can’t see how people can judge this product yet when no one has even heard it.
I won’t believe it sounds better than a Sonos One or Play:1 until I see some proper side-by-side reviews.
Nick T There’s always audio compression in videos that will not do the comparison justice. Both products would surely sound better than the video shows. For that reason, this product and ones similar to it are hard to review. At best, reviewers can really only say “This thing sounds fantastic... but hearing it through a video simply wouldn’t do it justice. We recommend that you visit your local Apple Store and hear it in person to form your own opinion.”
That said, I do believe that Apple hit it out of the park, despite not having heard it myself. Apple usually executes well on their promises. If the majority of their talent and time was spend on audio quality, I’m confident it’s probably one of the best sounding speakers that money can buy. Surely comparable to high-end ones that normally sell for more than $350, making this product quite well-priced in that context.
I think the same..Sonos is a very good brand on the audio industry...
Or sound better than 2 of the Sonos Ones at that price. Or the Google Home Max. Amazon failed to catch up with audio, although the dot has always provided that flexibility.
The Sonos Play:1 sounds terrible so I'd sure hope it's better. Sonos doesn't sound good until you get to the 3 then the 5 isn't much better than the 3.
I think the point is you get 2 Sonos One's. I don't care how good 1 speaker is, stereo pair is often better than 1 good speaker.
Never buy 1st gen products.
AirPods are perfect
HomePod is a game changer in AI speakers market.
But haters will hate no matter how good the product is as long as it’s an Apple’s one. Sick internet trolls.
MYT Sound like you have one, how is it? According to this guy its an excellant speaker, terrible AI assistant--which is why you buy an AI speaker. Two Sonos Ones seem like the better option at this point in terms of better AI experience
Why is it a game changer?
Lol pretty high praise for someone that hasn't even used it
As a speaker, great. Not so much if you want a true home smart device.
6644pmr Lol, pretty low reviews for someone who hasn't used it.
Seems like the Google Home is the Middle ground regarding audio quality.
Apple definitely should've skipped the home-pod but just like the apple watch it could be a good 1st gen product. I definetly don't expect sales to be huge tho and i believe that even apple dosen't expect their new home device to have excellent sales
I have iTunes , if I asked is “play ...” would it play or would u have to airplay it?
Apple Tech it’ll pay your purchases
Any of your songs that you have purchased or downloaded on Apple Music she will be able to play. She will even be able to play songs that you haven’t downloaded off of iTunes as long as you have Apple Music.
What about Google Home Max?
You could buy the Google home max for 50 dollars more or you could buy 7 Google home minis for the price of one home pod
You'll get what you paid for, too. It's not about the "smart" aspect, friend. It's the hardware and high-end sound that make up the cost. I bought a $200 Big Jambox and returned it for not meeting my expectations. $150 more for something that has impeccable bass and speakers that change the projection of sound based on their environment is something I'm willing to pay for.
Me:"Hey! Alexa Why Did Apple Try To Copy You With The Home Pod" Alexa: *Ding* "And That Is A very Obvious Question, 'Its Apple They cant Come up With new ideas".
beats is division of apple, homepod is technology from beats (maybe)
iMongs will love this.
I’m buying this for HomeKit comparability.
Okay, I have watch at least 12 reviews of this latest apple device & this is the only review that gives this device as high as a bar a he gives, and to note he only compares this device to the Amazon echo as to sound quality when there's at least 4-5 other major competitors in the market right now????
Curtis Jones Funny cause there are no reviews out. Typical Android fanboy...
bob Bob lol..hey apple fanboy google it, FYI i have an apple phone as well???? I was watching other youtube vids when this one can up next.....
Curtis Jones Just cause I called you an Android fanboy makes me an Apple one??? God your more stupid than you seem.
bob Bob YOU ARE 100% CORRECT IN EVERYTHING YOU SAY, ENJOY TROLLING PEOPLE, IM DONE... LOL
Curtis Jones Calm down jeez 😂😂😂
buy two sonos ones for the price of one? whyd you continue after that??
The solution: Get a Google Home Mini for $50, get a Google Chromecast dongle, and hook it up to some nice $200 speakers. Problem solved.
He was payed 10 dollars to say this
More than you make at Taco Bell
Zander Perkalator
You roasted him good😂😂👍👏
Lol
*paid
For now, Apple is trying to showcase HomePod by tight control and integration of both the hardware and software. Initially, HomePod is intended to be an exclusive smart speaker system for Apple Music since no alternative smart speaker currently offers that. If HomePod proves itself to be a capable product with rave reviews and decent sales then look for Apple to open up their HomePod for use with other music services such as Spotify, Pandora and Amazon Music. However, smart speaker control of Apple Music will always be exclusive to HomePod. Apple is not going to let cheaper smart speakers control Apple Music. Why? Because many would opt to buy those cheaper smart speakers to access Apple Music which would significantly cut into sales of potential HomePods. So if you’re an Apple Music subscriber (30 million and growing) and you want a smart speaker then Apple HomePod remains your only choice. Apple is betting on just a small percentage of Apple Music subscribers purchasing HomePod to justify the need for their HomePod.
db4ip Hmmm, someone with a brain in a youtube comment section. Extremely rare!
Does this thing allow for multiple voices ?
As expected, Siri definitely needs work overall though. However I’m not sure what else I would use Siri for that I’m not using at the moment.
how does home max sound in comparison?
Arnav R E V I E W Well, according to the specs, it'll sound better than the Google Home Max. Probably not louder though.
Very nice ad
Everyone is copying one another. Innovation is dead.
Nah. Do some reading about the technology inside the Homepod. This reviewer only glosses over the fact that Apple is actually pretty cutting edge with the SPEAKER portion of the device-even if they replacing catchup on the 'intelligent' part.
Internet Alpha But its true that those technology existed before.
Take for example Macbook Air. It was unveiled 10 years ago (2008) by Steve jobs .It was a revolutionary product. A decade on and Apple still sells it.
The new macbook is the MBA replacement and its the first laptop of its spec without a fan, thats pretty revolutionary to me. Get outta here with your nonsense
iisdan But why have good specs IF YOUR SISTEM HAS NO GAMES
Innovation died at Steve Job's funeral
Have You Seen The NERV Technologies Video??
That Is The Best Phone I Have Ever Seen....
Another advert.
He said absolutely fantastic just like Tim Cook.
So it only sounds as good as a play1?
Is it better than the Google Home Max?
